Very poor customer service and very high prices. Over $30 to change a battery? That's do out if line as to be ridiculous! Don't bother as this organization is only there to take advantage any time they can. Try any real jeweler that has their own watchmaker and you will be better served. I brought in a $59 clock to replace a lost minute hand. I advised that if it was more than $25, it wasn't worth fixing. I got a call a week later saying they replaced everything and it would cost $47. Although hesitant, I went to pick it up and was charged $76!! The owner claimed that the person who called was not qualified to give me a quote. I should have told him to keep the darn clock and just bought another one. read more

I stopped by Time Zone to get my wife's ESQ watch battery replaced. The owner replaced the battery and tested the watch in less than 5 minutes. He was very polite and took extra time to answer several questions I had and to show me a few of the watches in the store. Went in to have an hour indicator reseated. It had to be sent into the manufacturer and the manufacturer did a horrible job leaving glue visible on the face. Mike sent the watch back to the manufacturer demanding they fix the problem, and, when they couldn't correct the damage to the watch, was able to have it replaced with a new watch. They also replaced the glass face on another watch of mine and did a great job. Every time I've gone in they had great customer service. Very nice and respectful. read more

My experience with this store is very positive. Was this a different person working here? The employee was friendly and respectful. I went in to have a battery put into my watch. In less than 5 minutes, I had a new battery put in. And the cost was less than $11 dollars. After he was finished installing the battery, he said a nice thank you and have a great day. I received a $600 citizen watch as a birthday present. Three weeks later, the watch band broke. Rob and Michael both told me to take my complaint to citizen. They said it was not their problem and I was on my own. Citizen said I need to send in the entire watch to let them decide if this would be covered through the warranty, and at my expense. As this solution is kind of like trying to cure a headache with a lobotomy, I couldn't figure out why Rob thought that my brand new broken watch was my problem to solve. I came in several times to try and get Time Zone to just replace the watch band for me but they told me to take my business elsewhere. It was like that scene in the Matt Damon movie "Rainmaker" where the insurance company tells the mother trying to get medical coverage for her dying son that we have denied your claim X amount of times and you keep asking, you must be stupid, stupid, stupid. We deny your claim for the final time. Unbelieving that this store would take such a position over a claim of just an $80 watch band, I did persist one last time by trying to meet with the owner and hoping to rely on years of past custom, to have this small matter resolved. The owner/manager, Michael, would not return my calls, and whenever I tried to call and make an appointment with him to have this problem resolved, I was given the run around. The person working at the store just wasn't sure when Michael would be in. I was treated like some bum who was trying to scam the place out of an $80 watch band. My last proposal before I just return the entire watch and resolve this through the credit card company for a defective product was to ask for a replacement watch band, value of about $80.00 and everything would be satisfactory. I was told flat out that I could just take my business elsewhere, and not to ever return to this store. As God is my witness, this is the absolutely most unbelievable response I have ever heard in my 59 years of life. However, it will be the easiest commission I have ever been given. Please all do yourselves a favor and honor Michael's and mine's personal recommendation to not ever come in to his store again. If this is how a long standing customer is treated, I cannot even imagine how he plans to improve his business and treat customers as humans with legitimate concerns. Timeless Quality Went to the time zone a couple of weeks ago to get a very old pocket watch fixed by Michael. I have been going there for about 10 years now but mostly for battery replacements. After looking at it, he could have said that he could get it running again. But, instead, knowing the age and sentimental value to me, he said that the best thing was not to risk working on it. Instead,since the crystal was also loose, he cleaned, reglued and reset it for $20. I cannot think of many businesses that would pass on an opportunity to offer to fix the watch at a significant fee. Instead, Michael was gracious and honest. Not easy to find this level of integrity these days. Thank you Michael, I will continue to come to your business in the future and share my experience with others whenever I can. Several years ago (before I knew about Yelp!) I took a watch in for battery change to this place. About two week later the watch stopped working. Brought it back and was told the watch was no good and the owner wouldn't refund the money for the battery or change out the battery. Then I took it to another watch repair location and they replaced the battery. They told me that nothing was wrong with the watch and that the battery that Time Zone put in was old stock. I've seen two different people work in this place and I've used their services for several years now. The older guy is pretty pathetic and has a condescending tone. The younger guy is much nicer and obviously helpful. I don't have any problem paying the price even if it is twice (or however many times it takes to fix my watch) but please treat me with respect! Oh my goodness, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! My husband and I went in to the La Mesa store because we live very close by and he needed to replace the battery on a very nice heavy metal band watch I had bought him from Hot Topic years before. I used to work the jewelry counter at Target and had opened and replaced many watch batteries before (free of charge to open the back and only charged for the battery if someone needed a new one) but this watch being a different brand, I had a very hard time getting it open at home so I suggested we take it to Time Zone in the mall, thinking surely they would be kind enough to show us how to open that type and I would replace the battery and close it back up myself. WRONG! The guy that worked there had THE WORST ATTITUDE and LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE I had ever seen in my entire life. We walked in and he was just sitting at his desk reading and didn't even look up to greet us. My husband had to be the one to go, "Hi, how ya doin?" and then the guy looks up, no smile, just, "what do you need?" So my husband said, "My wife was gonna put in a new battery for me but the back..." and the watch repair guy cuts him off mid sentence and says, "$10.75" my husband said, " The sign says that is for battery replacement, we are doing that ourselves, I just want you to show me where we put our little tool to open it up" and the repair guy says, "yeah, and then you're going to have to close it, which requires this machine here, $10.75". And my husband started to tell him we did not need the machine for it, I had repaired batteries on numerous watches and could do it and again he cut my husband off and says, "10.75". Now I could tell my husband was getting pissed and about to say something so I grabbed his hand and said, "Honey, let's just go, he has no idea what customer service is". My husband shook his head and said, "Yeah, what a jerk". As we were walking out the door I turned and told the guy, "We're never coming here again and telling everyone else we know to not even bother". He had no response and we left. So my advice is to try Target or Walmart, or even your local jewelry store. Even if they charge more, you would probably get way better customer service then going to this place. read more

This guy sucks, too bad we didn't find out until today. My husband and I took our watches here a couple of weeks ago to get the batteries fixed. No big deal, a reef tide watch and a freestyle dive watch. The guy never got out of his seat and said two words to us the whole time: "hi" when we entered and the total of $40 when we left. It took around half an hour for him to finish them, and he never spoke one word to us the whole time we stood there waiting for something that should have taken 10-15 minutes. Holy awkward batman! My watch came out fine, but my husband put his on today and the time was off by an hour, the date was off by a day, one of the screws was reinserted without the guard because it was clearly broken (which he never told us about) and the other guard was on backwards. Never told us any of this, and charged us what I thought was too much at the time, but kept my mouth shut. It sucks that we didn't notice this until today. Stay away from this fraud and take your business to Del Rancho Jewelers in Rancho San Diego, Steve is awesome!!!!! He's just closed on my only days off :( read more

This might be an odd review considering I didn't spend any money, but that's because this store is honest. And if you/michael? sorry I'm terrible with names, but you will totally remember this. I went there to buy a used rolex from someone and wanted to verify it's authenticity. I don't expect anything for free and he was happy to do and the thoroughness with which he verifies it is impressive. Anyways, as soon as she pulled out the watch I could hear the cheap metal clanking, and knew it was fake. He took and told her he's going to save us the money and told her it was fake, a bad fake. I felt a less honorable person would have gone ahead with "the inspection" and still charged a fee for the service, just to make money. Not this guy. He was a stand up guy. So she left and I hung back to talk watches a little bit. I can tell you this is a REAL WATCH STORE AND A REAL WATCH GUY. I'm sure it's fine for changing batteries and bands, and the little things everyone needs to do. But know that you are going to a quality repair guy. Not a guy who does a half ass job. That's the funny thing, he didn't do any work for me, but I know the quality of service he would do. I would have no problem going back there for work, or referring my friends there. We were talking about a couple other stores I know in downtown SD and in Beverly Hills and he knows them. You can tell when watch people know their stuff and this guy is good. So for little things, I'm sure they are great, but for high end watches too, I just wanted to say I know you know your business and I was impressed. I read some of the bad reviews on here, and I think people think you are just a cheap mall jewelry repair, and don't appreciate the quality of service, which is a shame. read more

I took a family heirloom cuckoo clock in to have it repaired so it would work. I was getting if fixed for my husband for his birthday. The Guy took the back off and almost immediately seemed to know why it wasn't working. He explained it all to me and I understood. I asked him if he would also clean the clock up and polish it. He said no he wouldn't do that. Odd. He quoted me $325 to fix. I thought that was high, especially since he isn't going to clean it up and make it look nice. I said okay anyway as it was a surprise for my husband. He then expected me to pay him the full $325 up front! I was taken back. I can understand a deposit, but not full payment. It was also going to take him 3 months to fix. So, if you can afford to pay for an expensive repair upfront, can wait 3 months and don't mind the heirloom to still be a dusty mess, but now works, then this is definitely the place for you! FYI, I later looked up the value of the clock and I could buy a new clock for a dollar more than the repair price. This guy is a lazy ripoff! Good luck read more
