I called in to inquire about the cost to replace the battery on my watch. On the other end of the line, I was met with a gruff individual that inquired what type of battery I was replacing. I informed the man that I didn't know because quite honestly, if I could take apart the back cover to see the battery, I would just replace the darn thing myself. Instead of paying a premium to have someone else swap out the battery for me. He seemed really annoyed at this response, and told me he couldn't provide me a quote if I didn't even know what type of battery I had. When I asked him for an approximate range, he blew me off with an outrageous quote of at LEAST $25 and up per battery replacement. I'm guessing this owner has too much business as it is, since he clearly did not want mine. read more

I came here about a year ago, and I still think about and remember how rude this man was. When I gave him a watch I had, a vintage Bulova, he remarked "this is your watch?" To be fair, I did give him 15 watches. However, I reiterated I was in no rush and was not looking to be cheap. I gave him a watch that was solar powered (it ended up in the pile to give to him on accident), and he said something along the lines of like "why did you bring this to me, it doesn't even need a battery." Along Solano avenue, there are many other places to go. There are also many places to go within a few miles of this place. It says a lot for his lack of quality service to still stick with me today. I'm sure he nice to regulars and does not bother people who just care about a quality product, but for me, it was not a nice experience. Most of the batteries died within 3-4 months in, anyways. read more

First of all, this guy is a master of his craft. People are are nuts about rare and valuable clocks come here for full restoration so anyone who feels a little abraded by this guy- he didn't major in communication or PR- just like a surge he is very, very good at his craft so give him a break and be nice. I was referred to him by my neighbor (one of the rare and expensive clock people) and he's just a straightforward, down-to-business guy who is constantly working. No time for fools so don't be one. And BTW it DOES cost about $25 to change a battery especially if you watch is waterproof. There are seals and they have to use a vacuum to get the parts to press fit. If you have a watch that cost more than $200 (like they all do now) $25 every three years to keep it running is acceptable. read more

The owner has done a great job in replacing a watch battery (cost was $20), providing new watch bands for me, and also he was able to get a homemade clock (made by a friend of mine who passed away) working again .... the clock repair person at Oaks Jewelers tried to fix this clock but gave up, because there was a lot of glue that had been poured into the clock mechanism and it was very hard to work with this clock, apparently. This was a clock that was made from an old CD and is unique and whimiscal and I'm very glad to have it working again. The owner of Time Masters spend a lot of time working on this clock to get it to work again. He replaced the clock mechanism I believe. It's not a valuable clock but has sentimental value. read more

I had seen Mr. Stepakov's shop many time right across the street from the Post Office, and was always reminded my Grans clock which needed some work. I finally went over after calling first, so he would be there, and able to tell me what was needed. I was hopeful he was talented. He's very popular and many clocks are seen in his shop. I carefully handed over my Seth Thomas Camelback Clock of my grandmother, which to my family is a priceless memory for many decades. My memory floods with the clock's specific "Tic-Tock" and strokes on the hour and half hour lofting through the air. As a child I recall sitting, looking at this clock over the fireplace, snow on the ground outside, and feeling gorged after hand made celebratory meals like Thanksgiving or a Christmas gathering. She was a southern lady, and only knew how to do everything from turkeys to pies from scratch. Full, I would lay there listening to the melody coming from Grans clock. Soothing. My brothers and sister and all remember it well. It was always there, keeping accurate time and comforting us with sound, when alone in the room. When Gramma passed, I got the clock. It was overlooked by the family as it stopped working. So I set it in storage. But that isn't where one puts a memory like this. So out it came, and now I'm waiting for the judgement. He took the clock carefully, put in his loop, and pulled this and wiggled that. He said the bushings needed replacing. And it needed a cleaning (I imagine smoke from decades over the fireplace). Years ago I was quoted exactly what he charged me, so I knew he saw what the previous clockmaker saw. He told me about 10 weeks to pick it up, and the wait was fine. He explained how busy he is. I am home now. With my bride of a year, continuing the tradition. The clock polished, top center of our fireplace surrounded by new and old faces. Some living, some passed. ( We don't use the fireplace for fires now for safety reasons, so we use a candle rack inside it.), and ticking and announcing the half and hour. Happy sounds. I can't wait until Thanksgiving and after dinner cocktails in the Livingroom. It will fill my heart. Thank you sir for bringing back a wonderful memory that I may pass on to another generation. I recently brought in my grandmother's Rolex Oyster Perpetual, that I just inherited, for repairs to another jeweler. I was curious as to why the gold was faded if it was a genuine Rolex (which the watch is). My jeweler informed me that this was not the original band, but a cheap aftermarket version. I contacted a family member who told me that he brought this watch in to Time Masters several years ago for servicing. He was told by the repair guy that the band was "no good" and had to replace it. After he realized that the guy did a bait & switch, it was too late and there was nothing he could do other than becoming disgusted by this guy. Fast forward several years later, the only reason the guy didn't replace the clasp is because it there was a special engraving on it. Based on other reviews, and my family member's experience, It seems this guy has no conscience, Who would have thought that this revelation would come back to expose him on Yelp years later! read more

He looked at my 2012 Victorinox manual watch with disdain, setting the time and date to verify it functioned, then left it for me to correct. "This watch is old, Swiss made," he said, stating the obvious, "It will be expensive to service." He quoted me a minimum of $300 and three to four weeks, "to test it properly." I stopped in today to see if links could be taken out of two resin bands for my iWatch. When I walked in and saw all of the antique time pieces and wall clocks, I asked if my request was a reasonable request for service. The owner seemed confused about the reason for my statement smiled and said, "of course I can take links out of a watchband." He quickly went behind his workbench and quietly started working on them, and both bands were fixed within 7 minutes. All in all a good experience, a wonderful storefront and store in a good location on Solano Av. Masters at not wasting your time. In and out in 5 minutes, quicker than any fast food restaurant drive-thru or walk-in (with no line). Parking took longer. The 4-5 star reviews I read about this place are legit. I can confirm. Granted, I didn't need a major repair. All I needed was a battery replacement. My boyfriend was able to replace it last time the battery died. But it took him longer than 5 minutes plus he tightened the backing too tight that it took the watchman longer than usual to remove it. Other than that, the whole process including payment was 5 minutes tops. Considering a pack of watch batteries run anywhere between $4-5 online, the replacement was worth every penny of the $10 he charged me. Highly recommend. read more

We went to get some watches checked to see if they were real or not. He was extremely unfriendly and acted like he knew everything and we knew nothing about watches when we had simply been curious on how one could tell a real from a fake. When we mentioned my mom's Rolex he had the audacity to question it's authenticity (she bought it 50 years ago in Switzerland and we've had it checked). Mr.Stepakov is a master! He has repaired my irreplaceable vintage wall clock twice, years apart. I just took in another vintage clock with some parts missing, which he will find and replace. Thanks to Toni M. and her review of this place I got two watches fixed that I have been carrying around in my purse for about a year. One watch needed a new battery and one needed to be resized. I was very near here and decided, based on Toni M's review, to take it in. It is very clean in the shop and he fixed my watch right there at the counter at his little work station. There was a man sitting there, Im not sure if he was a customer or a co worker but we got in to a conversation about the weather and painting of things.
