Tim Wang, MD - Sports Medicine Near Me - San Diego, California

This was my 3rd acl surgery. My first two were almost 20 years ago. I have to say that this surgery, performed by Dr. Wang, went way better than I was expecting. Dr Wang rightfully exudes confidence in his surgical abilities. The recover was sooo smooth. I stuck to Dr Wang's recovery plan every step of the way and I am back riding mountain bikes with my boys! Highly recommend. read more

Dr. Wang was friendly and skilled but did not explain my X-ray results and did not respond to my questions that I sent him through portal as this was my first visit with orthopedic with a torn meniscus. I needed an expert to go over my MRI and X-ray results and let me know where the torn meniscus was. Consequently I wrote to him and asked my questions. His response was to refer me out. He did give me a cortisone injection that took the pain away and referred me to PT. I'm very thankful for this service. But I had questions about PRP and hyaluronic treatments. Later I wrote and asked if I could come in for a treatment due to an up coming preplanned travel to Europe. I was told I need to follow up with the referee doctor whom doesn't have opening until 4 months from the date I called and two days prior to my trip. Our health care system today is disjointed and minimal. read more

I am 14 weeks out from ACL reconstruction and super happy that I chose Dr. Wang. He is exceptionally knowledgeable -- one of those rare doctors that is still very much engaged in the research and updating his own methods. The scar from my ACL surgery (with patellar reconstruction) is much smaller than it typically is -- multiple physical therapists have commented on it! The entire office that Dr. Wang works with is communicative and helpful. I had an issue with my brace and they immediately made me a refitting appointment. All told, I feel very fortunate to have worked with Dr. Wang, and am on the path to full recovery! read more

Love, love, love Dr. Wang and his team. His diagnosis was thorough and he provides clear instructions and guidance. He and his team answer my questions quickly and if needed have me come in for follow-up. So far, so good with my surgery! I'm looking forward to getting back to doing what I did pre-op and with Dr. Wang as my surgeon I know that's possible. read more

Dr. Wang was extremely thorough and very communicative with me. He set up PT and was on top of everything. I'm extremely grateful for his expertise and quality of care overall during such a physical setback. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my surgery. read more

Working with Dr. Wang has been a great experience! I'm a very active athlete and so when I tore my acl and meniscus skiing it was very important to me to seek out the best treatment so I can get back to my high level athletics as quickly as possible. Dr. Wang was very cool, kind, and knowledgeable. He was able to instill confidence in that our planned approach to recovery was the best route to get me back out there. The procedure went great and recovery is going great as well. I highly recommend Dr. Wang. read more

Great experience! My knee repair went very well and everyone involved made the whole experience very smooth.

Excellent! My knee repair was successful. Still a little stiff but he had warned me it would take a while. He is great and his office, in particular the nurse who educated us, was excellent. read more

I recently went to Dr. Wang for a shoulder grade 3 separation evaluation and he recommended to not perform surgery and start with physical therapy. I appreciated how he took the time to answer all of my questions and provided some exercises to help with my shoulder. He is caring, attentive, and a great individual. I would highly recommend. read more

Dr. Wang truly saved my life, I had a major ACL reconstruction. Before my surgery I was constantly in pain, and could hardly maintain my job. I told Dr. Wang I wanted to be able to walk without pain, and swim in the ocean again and he assured me that I would be able to do that and more. His bedside manner is also very comforting and welcoming. He was very clear, concise, and comforting informing me about what was to come in regards to my surgery. I've had 3 knee surgeries as a 26 year old and I can say with confidence that Dr. Wang did the best job out of all of them. read more

Regarding my meniscus surgery, Dr Wang explained everything and was patient with me when I was in severe pain before and after the procedure. He is very caring and and made me feel comfortable asking questions. He followed up on my treatment. He is very kind as well as pleasant /fun - joked a bit when I needed some cheering up! I would highly recommend Dr Wang to friends and family. He is an extremely "knowledgeable and caring" clinician. I feel lucky to have been referred to Dr Wang. Thank you. Rebecca read more

After years of pain and different diagnosis from other Dr's we decided to find someone who could truly help my son. Dr Tim Wang is absolutely amazing!!! We had my son's records sent over and he got in him the next day to see him. Everyone was very friendly, we checked in and were seen right away. Dr Wang is extremely personable, upbeat and caring!! He was able to properly diagnose my son and came up with surgical treatment plan right away and yesterday Dr Wang preformed a 5 hour long surgery on my son that I truly believe saved his knee and quality of life at 23! Dr Wang, I can not thank you enough for what you have done for my son. You gave us hope and a plan when other Dr's had left us without any. You gave a 23 year old young man back his life!! Thank you!!!! read more

The best visit with any doctor I ever had. All The staff was super nice, reassuring and they treated me like a person. Dr. Wang took time to come up with the best plan for me. It feels so good to finally have someone understand. read more

Dr. Wang recently operated on my knee. Dr. Wang and his entire staff were wonderful. Everyone was there to help me get better. The surgery went very smoothly. I suffered very little pain because of a nerve block. They were quick to help me with anything I needed. Dr. Wang also prescribed exercises before and after the surgery which were helpful in healing faster. He is a strong believer in Physical Therapy and when he heard I could not get an appointment for a week, he called and got me in the next day. He did a wonderful job explaining everything and filled me with confidence. I would highly recommend Dr. Wang and his entire team!!! read more

I recently tore my MCL and was sooooo scared to see a doctor because I didn't want them twisting my leg and poking me to see what was wrong (I've had negative experiences with that and with some arrogant doctors) From the moment I walked into this office everybody was so kind and attentive and made me feel at ease. Dr. Wangs assistant even told him I was nervous and he was very careful with me and communicated to me in a way that made me feel valued. I love how Dr. Wang is personable, friendly, humorous and really listened to me. I would recommend him to anyone that needs orthopedic care. The Redwood city office is also beautiful. My 7 year old son came with me and said, " This looks like a hotel." Bottom line is that the staff are fantastic here and go out of their way to help you and make the whole experience better. I really felt that everyone involved listened to me and tried to get me the best care. I am so appreciative and am on the mend! read more

I was lucky to get in to see Dr. Wang--I'd been living in great knee pain for 3 weeks-- part of the reason was because my GP kept thinking she could solve the problem :(( Out of desperation I had my husband drive me to Dr. Wang's Emeryville office-- I heard about him here, at Yelp-- and while standing there begging to be seen, suddenly someone cancelled their appt. set for 30 minutes later. YES! Why in pain so long, unable to drive, unable to sleep more than a couple hours at night? 'Cause any med with codeine, morphine, etc. I'll go into shock, and stop breathing. So after nearly 21 days of very little sleep & a lot of pain, how wonderful when Dr. Wang immediately put me into a special leg "brace", reaching midway up to my thigh down to just above my ankle. I find Dr. Wang to be confident, energetic and upbeat. (PS: He's going to help me find a med I can take if ever I need post-surgery relief or if ever I have another harsh injury in every day life.) His staff? Friendly, efficient, professional. An extra positive shout out for Malena. read more

Dr. Wang is such a caring, attentive, hard working doctor! Even with his super busy schedule he found time to call me not once but twice! It's nice being under his care with his patience and vast knowledge with my injury. Highly recommend Dr. Wang, lucky to have him right here in town! He has a very friendly, helpful team of staff too! read more

I have had 4 ACL revisions going back almost 20 years. I came to Stanford and Tim's office seeking a newer, assertive and forward looking approach that met my active lifestyle needs. I was not interested in what I can't do or how bad my knee was, I only wanted to discuss the possibilities of improving and stabilizing my knee. Tim told me in our first meeting "I can get you more stable" and I put my trust in him from that moment. I went through a two stage surgical process with him. Bone grafting, recovery, then a final revision. My knee has never been as stable or strong as it is now. I'm able to go back to running, surfing etc after years of living with instability and pain. I've had the opportunity to go under the knife with some fantastic surgeons, but nobody was able to do these revisions exactly right. Tim is the best surgeon I've had care for me and I've sought out the best surgeons in the Bay Area and Los Angeles over the past 20+ years. I honestly can say my life is changed with my stable knee. Thank you Tim. read more

Dr. Wang's overall bedside manner is quite fine. I am not writing here to discuss his character or bash his practice for my suffering. I am here to discuss the attention that I received to my ongoing hip pain under his care. In a nutshell, Dr wang ordered X-rays of my hip one time and sent me to physical therapy with the diagnosis of hip pain and Arthralgia. Then my physical therapist who is quite competent put me on a series of exercises that brought about a slight improvement, but the next group of stretches sent me to severe static pain for three weeks, so, we backtracked, and after that it was continuously two step forward one step back or vice-versa. That is when I went back to Dr. Wang to get some extra attention to my pain, and he said that I was not a good candidate for a steroid injection, because I had pain at serval points. Instead, he prescribed some topical anti-inflammatory, notorious for its horrific side effect. I tried it a couple of times and found it far less effective than the natural ointment called Penetrex, an OTC anti-inflammatory from amazon.com. My hope was that if I reduced the pain, I could do more in physical therapy. I also tried three different acupuncturists with no real relief. In addition during the past year, I changed three cars before I found a car, with a seat that didn't make my pain worse. By now my hip regularly makes a clicking sound when I walk. So, next, I made an appointment with a pain specialist who ordered an MRI. It turns out that I have "moderate to severe right hip osteoarthritis and excessive labral degeneration, tearing and intralabral cyst formation as well as associated joint effusion and considerable synovitis." Although such findings are not anything to be happy about, they help me understand why I was not responsive to physical therapy, acupuncture or anti-inflammatories. So, my disappointment in Dr. Wang treatment is not that he did not diagnose my condition correctly, but when I went back to see him several months later to discuss my lack of progress, I believe a careful doctor would recommend further examination, i.e., an MRI to get to the root of the problem. I really don't have great deal respect for doctors who put their relationship with the insurance companies ahead of patient's best treatment and am not saying that I know for certain this was the motivation of Dr. Wang. However, his lack of interest in my situation not only has delayed my progress but has made my condition worse. My abnormal gait and limping-walk now in creating secondary problems in my knee and foot and I have asked my PCP to make a referral for an orthopedic Surgeon In Palo Alto. The pain specialist that I consulted said anything she does for pain management would be quite short-lived and recommended to see an orthopedic surgeon to discuss treatment options including surgery. For the record, I am an otherwise healthy 55-year-old with BMI of 21.8 and prior to the onset of my hip pain, and the subsequent gaining of 15 lbs, I was quite fit with BMI of 19.5. I read the glowing review here for doctor Wang, and I don't doubt that these reviewers have had excellent experiences. However, it may be that Dr. Wangs is more interested in the treatment of patients within his specialty for shoulder injuries in younger athletes, and it would be best if he would refer patients like me to a hip specialist who can help hip-related issues with the same degree care as he helps people with the shoulder injury. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Wang when he saw me for a crushing foot injury compliments of my horse. After being seen at Sutter and being told there was nothing to be done, Dr. Wang took the time to really assess my issue, set me up with a boot to help manage the pain, helped me with instructions on wound care (should have had stitches earlier), and followed through in a timely manner on MRI results. Though my foot was broken with a fair amount of tissue damage, I thankfully didn't need surgery. If I had, I would not have hesitated to go with him. He is knowledgeable, confident, and caring. Many thanks to Dr. Wang for great care. read more

I recently visited Dr. Wang after a running injury became too much to bare. I was extremely impressed with how quickly and confidently Dr. Wang was able to not only assess the root cause of the injury but also offer recommendations on how to fix the issue. His bedside manner was fantastic! He spent a considerable amount of time with me and didn't leave until all of my questions had been answered. I was lucky my injury didn't require surgery but I would not have hesitated to have him do it, if need be. If he can work on Brooklyn Nets and Golden State Warriors players then I must not be alone I'm thinking he's great! Hopefully I never have to see him again :) but if I did I would feel very comfortable in his capable hands. Also, I wanted to give a shout out to the rest of the staff. Everyone I interacted with was extremely polite and helpful. Including the woman that helped me set up the initial visit. The facility is also quite nice. Highly recommend to others! read more

I don't give this many stars to a restaurant let alone a clinic, but I've been going in and out of various pain and orthopedic clinics for years, that means you learn about expectations and who can fulfill them and who can't. I met Dr. Wang and asked him point blank if he knew what he was doing, he laughed and said yes. He looked at my X-Rays and told me exactly what he needed to do and what to expect from them. He also covered my past ailments I had written off as "can't do anything about" he said he wanted to re-examine them as he had some perspectives on what could be done (more than the usual "you got it, live with it!" attitude). When my procedure was done he and his nurse Melina were totally professional, exceeded my expectations. I walked right out feeling better then I've felt in months. He earned every star that day. I am very happy with Dr. Tim Wang's work. He looks after patient's best interest. I broke my right wrist during snowboarding last December - got 8 bone fractures. He did a wonderful job at my wrist surgery. He continued to follow up with my recovery. My wrist is almost as good as new now. Although still ways to go to regain full strength and flexibility, before I can do handstand again, hopefully I can again. read more

Great guy, I dont yelp but use it often, but he deserves it. The staff was very friendly and accommodating also. I consider myself lucky that I ended up here. read more

I was fortunate to get in on short notice to see Dr. wang , since my regular Stanford orthopedic surgeon was not available. The Emeryville office staff was very professional, helpful and friendly! After a skiing Incident ,I had thought for sure I had tore another ACL graft! Dr Wang expedited an MRI stat! Fortunately it was just an hyperextension and torn calf muscle! I will not hesitate to see Dr. Wang again or recommend him to others!! P.S A special thanks to Diana in the front office for all her extra help with SDI etc. read more

Few things are more exciting than trying to stay on a 2000 pound bull for eight seconds. And, few things are more exciting than being able to pitch Fastpitch softball for 25 years. Dr. Wang is brilliant! I have had my 3 month check-up today following an ACL quadricep graft repair. He is very professional and a highly skilled surgeon. He and his team always respond quickly to my questions and concerns. Prior to my operation I was concerned about how the surgical scar would look following the operation due to having keloid prone skin - Dr. Wang listened to my concerns and responded with an appropriate suture and care regimen. Now, my scar is barely noticeable. I am very happy with Dr. Wang's knowledge, humor and professionalism. read more

I'm so thankful and lucky to have Dr.Wang as my doctor and surgeon. I have to say that Dr. Wang was not the 1st doctor that I had seen for extreme shoulder pain. But just because he was my 2nd opinion doesn't make him any less than extraordinary. With feeling unhappy with my first doctor treatment I was referred to Dr. Wang's office by a friend. I can remember my 1st appointment like it was yesterday. The moment that Dr. Wang walked into the room I could feel how dedicated and determined he was to help me. He sat with me and listened to all my concerns and complaints of my pain. He took the time to spend with me to help me move forward with treatment. With me being part of the medical/surgical field as well, sometimes I'm not the easiest patient to please with my high standards of how patient care should be. I cannot express how happy I was with Dr. Wang and his staff during my journey before and after my surgery. Even my physical therapist was extremely pleased with how detailed notes and after care treatment is. I would recommend Dr. Wang to all of my family and friends. I hope that you'll be as happy with Dr. Wang's treatment as I've been. read more

I have a compound tear of the medial meniscus that another sports med doctor had diagnosed from an MRI. He advised against surgery. Dr. Tim Wang differed in his opinion and was not shy to say so. He sat with me and illustrated how a compound tear creates a flap which is the source of my pain. He answered all questions I had, and again in a second visit, those I had failed to ask. He never pressured me to have surgery and encouraged a course in physical therapy beforehand. I am not one to suffer bureaucracies well. But my experience at Stanford Medical has been surprising in that everyone has been extremely efficient and courteous. Personable really. Coordinator Melina Flores no exception. See for yourself. read more

Didn't spend much time with me and was very curt. Doesn't respond to his own emails, assistants do. And they don't have all the information so there is a lot of back and forth. I didn't feel very well cared for or heard. He also made a joke about hurting me when I cried during the exam. The cost of the visit was also surprisingly expensive. Considering insurance covers a percentage, the overall cost was much higher than other orthopedists. read more

I was a patient at the Redwood City office for several years, so I was elated when they opened an office in Emeryville. Unfortunately, I soon discovered the disadvantages of the new office. My primary grievance is with Melina. She contacted me to establish an appointment without reading my referral, thus she didn't realize that she didn't know what to do until I was on the phone (annoying and time consuming at most). However, she advised that she would call me "right back," but I didn't receive a return call for several days. The third time that she called, she was still confused about who to refer me to and advised that she'd call back again. By the fourth call, I simply asked that she have her office manager call me, something that she obviously didn't want to do (and again, no timely response). As UCSF and John Muir are local, I'll try my luck there. I absolutely believe that you have to pay attention to blatant incompetence when your health is at stake. If you can't read a medical referral properly in two weeks, you should not practice medicine/work in a medical office. read more
