My dear friend and I spent Saturday in Oshawa, Brooklin, and Whitby. After having a fabulous dinner…read morein downtown Brooklin, we wanted to get a drink at a cafe. Most Starbucks cafe in this vicinity close at 22:00. We knew that we wanted more time. I checked Yelp and this Timmy's was a four-minute drive away. This Timmy's is in a plaza. I was leading in my car as my friend followed. The parking lot is oddly designed in front of Timmy's. My friend thought that I was going through the drive-thru, but I was actually parked in front of the store! She ended up in front of the A&W's. Anyway, we walked in and talked about what to order. She is vegan and I am borderline lactose-intolerant. We share similar challenges getting food and drinks. Hold the dairy! For me, I still have the flexibility of taking pills that allow me to have dairy. She went with black coffee with some sugar. I typically get black steeped tea. Instead, I went with the tropical real fruit chill. It tasted sweet, but it wasn't bad. I could taste pineapple, tangerine, and mango flavours. A small runs you $2.10 with tax. Both the store and the drive-thru are open 24 hours a day. The drive-thru has to order lanes. Impressive! It was fairly quiet at 22:30 on a Saturday night. A woman who had a weird slogan on her blue car had parked next to mine. We chatted by my car as we saw her pull out with her dog in the passenger seat. The dog was huge, but sweet! It was the perfect place for is to casually talk, as we tend to do whenever we meet. (149)

I have found that a lot of the Tim Hortons have been slipping lately and this particular location…read moreis the slowest I have been to in a long time. The parking lot was empty when we went in and there was only one person ahead of us in line. We got to the counter quick enough but were in there for what seemed like ages waiting for 2 toasted bagels. The man who ended up giving us our food was very rude in how he asked me not to take photos in the store. I didn't mind that he wanted me to stop taking photos but it was the way he spoke and attitude he gave when he did it that caused the problem. Our "lightly buttered" bagels were a mixed bag. Mine was just drenched with butter still and my wife's had splotches of heavily buttered areas and then spots with no butter at all. This place shows why we rarely go to Tim Hortons anymore.

Tip: Collect McDonald's reward points. You can redeem them for food and drinks…read more This McDonald's restaurant has been a fixture on Kingston Road, near Sheppard Avenue East, for eons. As a kid, when my parents and I would visit Pickering Flea Market (may it rest in peace), we'd pass by this McDonald's to get there. A couple of weekends ago, I was shopping in Pickering. Shopping up a storm required getting a drink afterwards. I had never been to this McDonald's. I decided to get a drink here on my way home. This eatery is on the south side of Kingston Road, just east of Sheppard Avenue East. I had no problem pulling into the parking lot and locating the drive-thru. Before visiting this restaurant, I had loaded the $1 fountain drink deal to my QR code on my McDonald's app. I wasn't able to pay on the app (it's a long story, but I'm able to now), so I loaded this deal and then had to pay for my drink at the window. Not horrible. Just an extra step and interaction with a human. This McDonald's has two drive-thru lanes that ultimately converge by the time you get to the first window. I liked the longer approach to get to the order area, as it accommodates more vehicles when things get busy. I got a friendly male voice at the drive-thru order area. I rattled off my code associated with my reward points. The man saw my fountain drink deal. I got a large Diet Coke. I proceeded to make my way to the pickup window. I paid with a credit card. Tapped. Paid. Done! I got my drink. I was so happy. I thanked the woman at this window and started making tracks home. The downside is doing a left turn to get home from this McDonald's. I ended up heading east and making a left turn at the next set of lights. It was the safer option. My Diet Coke was crisp and cold. It hit the spot after a successful shopping excursion. It's a decent McDonald's. I am happy that I finally got to visit it. (311)

We can around 1:30pm, made our order for happy meal and an extra pack of the latest toy (Feb 2026, anime uno cards). The staff at the drive through order were happy to make sure we got one of each of their available toys. We were told to wait at parking spot #1, and when we were waiting, the car at spot #2 left. A staff, I assume the manager, made a mad dash up over a snow hill to catch the #2 spot customer before they left the lot at the traffic light. He came back with a pack of food in his hand, and then the customer #2 came back to the parking spot. The manager then brought out another bag for them. WOW - that is commitment to everyone enjoying the food they order, and getting what they order. After that, the same manager came out with more orders, including ours. He asked us to check that we had two toys inside, stood there waiting for us to confirm, and wished us a pleasant day as we drove off. I've honestly never had such impressive, dedicated service. I've been calling him the manager (I'm not sure tbh), but if he isn't, McDonalds needs to make him one, now!

But not even ten minutes into the city and we passed four of these donut wonder lands. By the six one we started to get curious and decided to stop and try it out. But decision ever if I might add. Tim Hortons has these really yummy donut balls in all different flavors. I couldn't resist trying the strawberry, blueberry, pumpkin, and sprinkles. Who could say no tobthe sprinkles? Well I should've because I made a mess, but it was so worth it. Along with my donuts, I got hot chocolate too. Really I should've gotten an iced hot chocolate. As it was really hot and that wasn't my smartest move. I still drunk it though!

I needed to use the washroom and also grab a quick, light bite. I drove over to Timmy's and parked. I then walked in. It was easy finding the washrooms. They were on the right when I first walked in. The women's washroom was on the left. There were two stalls. The one that I used was clean. No issues. I went to look at the baked goods. It didn't have any coconut donuts. Instead, I had a deal to get a bacon grilled cheese melt for $6. Perfect! I got these nicest man who was happy to help with my order. I ordered these items: - Medium iced coffee - Bacon grilled cheese melt I paid by having my QR code from my Tim Hortons app scanned. Done! The man let me know that there was a backlog of orders. However, he'd make my iced coffee immediately. I appreciated his communication with me. I got my drink. I thanked him. I waited with two other folks for their orders. There were three staffers. I wasn't in a rush, so I waited patiently and watched one of the women making my melt. When she was done, she called out the melt name. I went to the counter and thanked her. She wished me a great day. I reciprocated and left with my light lunch. I had it in my car. The iced coffee hit the spot. It was cold, creamy, and yummy. I loved my bacon cheddar cheese melt. It was delicious, with the right balance of salty bacon and stretchy cheese. I liked that the bread was pressed. Delicious! This Timmy's has a drive-thru that was doing steady business. I had a great experience here. It does get busy, so you may need to pack some patience. (319)

There are a few places that I need to review again. My local Starbucks is one of them…read more I have been a customer here for over a decade, well before I knew what Yelp was. I have met some fine baristas over the years, who have gone on to different careers because working here got them through college or university. This store has a high turnover of baristas, mainly because it's often a training store. I am a pretty patient person and I don't mind being a part of their training process. Lately, the current set of staff have not made my experiences pleasant. It has been building since the early part of 2021. One time, I decided to redeem my points towards a tumbler using the Starbucks app. It said that the tumbler was in stock. I also ordered a drink. When I approached the drive-thru, I indicated that I had a mobile order. The man said that it was out of stock. I stated that the app had it available. He maintained that he didn't have it and that he'd give me a refund in the form of a gift card, rather than reloading stars. I talked to this barista, who was the lead this day. I asked why the app didn't reflect their inventory. He simply told me to contact their head office. Um, no. It's not my responsibility to get your lack of updating your inventory and syncing it with your mobile app. The onus is on Starbucks to fix these issues. Telling me to report it is lazy. I'm reporting it to you now. Make it happen. During the same visit, I had another barista ask whether I had ordered "just" an iced black tea. The use of "just" by main staff members here is unnecessary and was ongoing for at least two months. To confirm that you have my order, rattle it off without the "just." I usually reply by saying, "It's only me. One drink is enough." My alternative is, "You aren't just a barista. You are a barista that folks would think that you do important work." Why just? Just do you job by not implying that my order isn't as large as you'd like it to be. I took up that beef with the lead. He indicated that his team often has chats and will discuss it. I will say that I don't get "just a drink" thrown at me as often these days, but coming here to deal with this nonsense has made me drop by less often than I used to. There are a couple of regular barista that I enjoy seeing and chatting with. There are some new ones who are pleasant and great getting my orders from. However, I simply don't enjoy coming here. The lines are often long and I have often waited half an hour for my drink. I am patient, but I see that other Starbucks cafes near me do not make me wait that long and are far more pleasant. The latest experience was ordering through the app, indicating that I had a mobile order, getting to the window, and being advised that staff were brewing black tea. The barista said that someone would come out with my drink in five minutes and that I should park off to the side. I first parked in the parking lot. Ten minutes went by. Nothing. I then parked in front of the patio. No one. Illegally parked, I put on my mask and headed towards the front door. I was met by a barista who had no clue who he was handing the drink off to until my eyes met his. I was thankful for my drink, but waiting fifteen minutes for it was longer than promised or anticipated. There is plenty of parking. I'd avoid parking in front of the cafe because it does get busy with Popeyes and Jeon Ju Hyang next door. Here's hoping that things get better. In the meantime, I'm averaging a visit here once a week or two because it's no longer my favourite place to grab a drink. Sad, but true. (351)
