I came across U.Cake because my date is a local. She bought a box of macarons for me. I had one of…read morethem with her and instantly fell in love with them - I went on U.cake's Instagram and messaged the owner, Nick, on WhatsApp and another box to bring back to Toronto to be shared with my family. U.Cake perhaps has one of the BEST macarons I have ever had in my life. Unlike the traditional French style, U.CAKE's macarons' crusts and feet were less "chewy" but more airy, soft, and crispy. I really liked this style as it didn't stick with my teeth - my mouth was just full of the flavour each of the macarons had. The filling was the highlight of these macarons - it was remarkably delicious. Every single macaroon flavour had very dynamic, creamy, yet fruity profiles, completing the entire "picture." They were sweet and rich, yet without being cloying, extremely refreshing and satisfying. Every single flavour I've had (passion fruits, crème brûlée, chocolate, raspberry, strawberry, tiramisu) was crafted masterfully to perfection, visually as well. I talked to the owner, Nick, when I picked them up at their house (shout out to you Nick) - I hope U.Cake can open a location closer to the GTA sometime soon, or at least in London ON. I cannot wait to come back and visit.

We got: - The sausage was smoky and meaty (no fillers here). - The pie pockets were so good! Packed with overflowing jam in pockets that were richly buttery. The assorted packs were great in that we were able to try different flavours (apple, blueberry, cherry, peach, raspberry, strawberry). - The elderberry pie was overly generous with the fruit and jam, and had a buttery crust (that I wish was a tad nuttier). - The apple fritters were just ok, though to be fair we got them at huge discounts since it was end of week. It's an amish bakery so you pay with cash. They were very welcoming and think were a bit amused by us just loading up on all this baked goodness. Can't help it if it's that good!

As our GPS was leading us down Queen st, I thought we were lost because it was tucked back off the street a bit. So pulling in and entering, I was not expecting to experience such a wonderful aroma from all the fresh baking of muffins, cookies, pies and etc. And the coffee was excellent and the atmosphere in the sitting area was very comfortable and warm. And the prices were very reasonable. The staff incredibly friendly and warm. We have visited here many times and our experience is the same as the first time we visited.

My fave was the Raspberry Butter Tart but the lemon poppyseed scone was fantastic too. Hubby said that the Chocolate Cherry scone was wonderful. All kinds of squares and brownies. Oh and the sourdough bread is fantastic (toasted it's heavenly too). Thinking French toast is next. They had a variety of flavours plus baguettes and bread rolls. The cinnamon buns looked outstanding. (Next time). FYI they also provide their baked goods to the coffee kiosk at The Glasshouse in Chatham if you can't get out to Thamesville.
