I'm not sure if you've seen the instagram worthy treats that Chick Boss Cake has been churning out…read morebut I fangirled a little bit when I found out they were opening a spot in London. I ordered one of their custom cakes from their St. Thomas location and it was perfect. From the taste to how beautifully decorated it was. I dont think there's another place like this in the area. Their treats are creative, colourful and very adorable. We recently took a break and visited the new location on Wellington Street. I loved the space, very welcoming and the Disney music over the PA was a soundtrack any millennial can get into. This place has instagram written all over it! From the decor to the signs on the walls, get those gifs and hashtags ready because Chick Boss Cake has just what you need for that perfect post. We ordered a few cupcakes, macarons and butter tarts. I got the milk and cookies cupcake and I really enjoyed it! It came with a little baster filled with a creamy icing which gave it an interactive spin. The cookie on top was nice and soft. The macaron however, was not the best. I bit into it and *BOOM*. It exploded! The top and bottom were very hard, almost like a candy shell. It broke into a bunch of pieces and was full of air on the inside. It didn't taste like much other than sugar, and definitely nothing like the mini eggs it was supposed to taste like. Considering the price, if I decide to visit again I would probably stick to the cupcakes. I'd love to try the donuts but they seemed to only sell them in packs of 6. I would consider ordering their cakes or cupcakes for a special occasion. The service was really good and the people behind the counter were super sweet but I think they missed the mark a little bit as they focused a little too much on fashion over function. But I mean....anything for the 'gram right?

If anything goes wrong with your order, then... Well, you just better hope nothing does. Otherwise…read moreyou're SOL. Bland, dry cakes. If you're not satisfied with it, the owner turns it around and makes it appear it's your fault. While now looking up this business online I see others have also had issues with their cakes and have even gone as far as throwing most of it out because no one is willing to eat the decorated saw dust, but the owner will say it was fine, and perhaps just offer you a coupon (not eligible on cakes!). Oh, AND if you've paid for an order and try cancelling nearly a month in advance - you're still SOL. Seemingly there's no refunds, even with lots of notice. $85-100 on a cake? "Sorry about that, but thanks for the money!" Best just to steer clear and find a real bakery, one who actually cares about the customers they're servicing and aren't JUST in it for the money.

I really can't say enough of how delicious the scones are at this shop inside St. Jacob's Market. I tried the savoury cheese and chive scone, blueberry, raspberry white chocolate, pumpkin, and cinnamon scone - all were so fresh and full of flavour. None of them were overly sweet, which I loved. Even better how they were $1 each since I came close to closing time on a Saturday afternoon. Yes, they're a bit on the smaller side but for $1 each, I really couldn't complain after tasting each one! I also tried the lavender and honey macaron, which was unbelievably delicious! I love trying unique macaron flavours at different macaron shops and this was definitely one of the best flavours I've ever had! The crisp macaron shell combined with the melt in your mouth strong lavender honey filling was heavenly! Support this cute bakery - they deserve so much more recognition for the quality of baked goods that they make! I'm looking forward to my next visit and can't wait to try their other scones and macaron flavours!

I found the yummiest macarons ever at a stall in the St. Jacobs Farmers Market today (Thurs Oct…read more2nd). Apparently it was their first day vending at the market. I'm sure they will be a huge success. These macarons are incredibly delicious. The shells are light as air, moist and delicate, with good feet. The fillings are so bright and flavourful. There were four flavours when I purchased my dozen today. Strawberry, lemon, vanilla, and pistachio. I purchased three of each type and I've so far tried the pistachio and strawberry. Both are exceptionally good. The strawberry has a dollop of strawberry jam in the centre of the buttercream which really punches up that fresh strawberry flavour. I have now tried the lemon and the vanilla. The lemon was divine. Sweetly tart with a bit of lemon curd in the middle of the buttercream. Yummers. I wasn't expecting to like the vanilla as much as I did. I mean, it's vanilla, right? How good could it be? The answer, my friend, is unbelievably good. This is pure vanilla at its florally best. Yeah, that's right, I said it. Florally. There are specks of vanilla bean throughout the cookie and that gourmand floral note really shines through. This vendor will do exceptionally well. I guarantee it. These macarons can go up against some of the best in Toronto and come out on top. I'm totally a fan now. I hope the pastry chef starts expanding his flavour selection, but I know I'm just being greedy. If he's talking suggestions, I would request salted caramel, rose, and lavender. I would love to taste his take on a salted caramel. Mmm.
