One of the features we always like because of its quality ingredients was the turkey dinner. We used to absolutely love it because it was so homemade in taste and presentation. Part of the reason was they used carved turkey right off the bones. A couple of years ago, we noticed the quality on all their food slipping with fish and chips being supersaturated with oil and the meat being near raw. Thinking that it was maybe just a bad evening or two, we went back again this week as we craved the turkey dinner they used to have. Now there is one thing I completely detest and that is deli turkey, that is turkey meat is pressed into a ball and then sliced into layers. Yuck, that should not be termed turkey, rather, a ball of pressed poultry. I told my wife it better be hand carved meat from a turkey carcass or I will not order it. Well I read the menu and this is what is stated: "Homestyle Turkey Dinner - Slow roasted turkey breast served with..." Now doesn't that sound like turkey from a roasted bird? Well, instead of asking if it was deli-ball turkey, we (three of us) all went with the homemade sounding turkey dinner all the time imagining what it used to be like. On the Friday night, there was hardly anyone in there, very unusual compared to the way it used to be, always packed, that should have been our first clue as to there may have been a change to a "chintzing out on the food." Well after 40 minutes, (remember, hardly anyone in there) our food came. The first thing I spotted was deli-ball meat so I immediately turned to the waitress and stated; "I'm sorry but is this deli turkey?" She replied that yes it was and then rather snidely told me that that is the way it has always been, for 25 years as that is how long she has been there. Call me a liar but we have definitely eaten the turkey dinners with real hand carved turkey within the last 25 years there. Long story short and needless to say, after patronizing that location and business from the day it opened, we are not returning there again. We've been in this community for 49 years now and like all discerning patrons in this community, restaurants begin their decline when they cut quality and service. As a life-long businessman, a little obvious advice: When you cheap-out on quality, to presumably increase your profits, the cause and effect is you drastically cut down your clientele and revenue. Hmmm, I can't believe I had to give that basic 101 advice. Good luck on staying in business and don't expect people to return a second time. One more point to ponder, when your menus are worn out and thread bare and look like germ magnets, appetites quickly diminish.
