I have had Tim work on my 2014 FJ Cruiser, which has been upgraded extensively. I could write a short story of the list of modifications I have done to the vehicle. In order to bypass that short story, and save you time the suspension parts that I purchased cost well over seven thousand dollars. Installation of these components was an additional cost and were something to go wrong because of installation errors it most likely would void my factory warranty. I have invested well over 100 hours in research for my project because I wanted to do it right.
If you're still reading this and are catching my drift, you should guess that I am somewhat well educated on what's going on under the truck.
The suspension system under my FJ is comprised of Front and Rear King Shock Technology Adjustable Coilover's with remote nitrogen charged cooling reservoirs as well as Total Chaos Manufacturing Upper control arms and Complete Rear Link Kit. I know that not many shops in RI have seen the components I am running, moreover have the skill or effectiveness to make adjustments or preform service to them, for example, recharging the nitrogen reservoir.
As a matter of fact I asked Toyota to recommend me someone to change the suspension because Balise does not do aftermarket part installations, and they did not know of anyone. If you search on Google "Coil over shock suspension installation shop RI", not many relevant results get returned. I luckily have a friend who owns an extremely busy insurance collision auto body repair shop that helped me get the parts installed, however, they do not typically preform suspension alterations.
After the installation some miles later, the truck started to make a sound that as far as I could determine, resembled a bad wheel bearing. It was hard to identify what the exact problem was by listening, and my buddy did not have the time to be able to track it down. I couldn't figure it out and I was getting frustrated as I was approaching my first 10,000-mile oil change.
I use AMSOIL for my truck, and the only place that has it in stock is a performance parts shop called "The Enthusiast" on Atwood Ave in Johnston. So, when I went to pickup the oil I took a chance and asked them if they knew of anyone who knows how to work with coilover suspension systems in RI, MA, or CT. I was and still am willing to travel in order to get the best help available and without missing a beat the owner said "Tim and Son" is the only shop that he will have work on his suspension for his truck. So, I got home and decided to give Tim a call, and spoke with him for at least 20 min, and I decided that it would be worth my time to drive a half hour to his shop and have him look at it.
The next day I drove out to his shop and when I got there, he stopped what he was working on, and immediately jumped into my truck so that I could indicate the "bad wheel bearing sound". Which we both heard, and he told me if I dropped it off with him, he would look into it further. The truck went over to him a day or two later, stayed with him for two days, and the sound was gone. He ended up pulling out the entire suspension and made some adjustments, which I would have never thought to do. I was really excited that it wasn't a bad wheel bearing and that my suspension was installed and calibrated to near perfect, and I hadn't voided my warranty. In my estimation his price for the service was more than fair considering the law of supply and demand, and the fact that there aren't many shops capable of servicing a pair of King Shocks in the local region. On top of all that as I was heading out over to Toyota to have the oil changed, which would have been half my day, he went ahead and changed it for me right on the spot for twenty bucks.
What I call that is some old fashioned made in the USA customer service, I absolutely have no problem letting Tim work on my vehicle and never hesitate to recommend him for suspension work. I get asked a lot if the FJ Cruiser came like it is now from the dealership, not likely I say. I can call myself a Tim & Son customer and will be going back to him to do my exhaust system; he just recently did a body mount chop to the frame that also came out top notch.
This is a piece of my story and I decided to put it on yelp to contrast the other review, which I could not believe. There are two sides to every coin... my .02, thanks for reading and be safe. read more
