Really 2.5
My husband and I had two meals there this weekend. I totally fell in love with their butternut squash ginger coconut milk soup....so much so, that we returned for a second meal. It was good the second time as well. However, other things brought it down down down for me. First, I asked the server if the ceaser salad was very vinegary, and was told no. In fact it was very vinegary, which ruined it for me. Otherwise, the anchovies in it and egg were perfect. My husband had some kind of bird that was quite tasty and I would give it 4.5 stars. The second meal, for my vegetables (since their salads are too vinegary) I ordered a side order vegetable medley. This was beyond terrible. The new potatoes had absolutely zero taste, and thick skin that refused to be chewed. They may have been the worse potatoes I've ever come across. The broccoli was watery and seemed like it was prepared in a nursing home. The peas were shriveled and seemed like they'd been frozen for a long time, and once opened so they had freezer burn. The only edible veggie on there was the carrot. Most of my reviews are 5 stars, as I do considerable research before trying a place. This place was not on yelp, but had a high rating on Google. I do believe some of what they make is wonderful and inspired, but I personally find it insulting to go to a highly rated place and be served something of this ill quality. They were forthright in taking it off the bill, but my evening meal had already been ruined. I'd rather pay and eat something good. I might have given them 3 stars, but another thing about the restaurant was disturbing. The carpeting is nothing short of gross. It seems like what you would find in a flea bag hotel on the wrong side of town...and the cleanliness factor there is lacking. I'm sorry, Tilly's, but you need to pay more attention to detail. read more
