Had a great experience here...just make sure you are able to do the choosing on your own. My husband and I went here looking for tile for our kitchen backsplash and were totally overwhelmed with the choices. They have tons of different options and the tile is right there...no need to order it and wait! the staff is really friendly, but we didn't get as much help with picking out what we wanted. We were able to utilize our paint samples (and our contractor happened to be there picking up stuff for another job and really helped us out) and found a great quality tile. The prices are great too and you can walk out of there ready to do your renovations...tile in hand (or dolly). I will definitely use this place again when I am looking to remodel. Just make sure you know what you are looking for because sales are final and they don't let you return what you did not use. Great selection at great prices. The staff is not there to make a sale rather it seems they facilitate ringing you up once you have decided so make sure you do your research elsewhere and have a good idea of what you want. The store is ginormous and there are a ton of options for shapes, material, and a great variety of colors. The best thing about this store is they pretty much have everything on display so you can really see if you like it. I am not exactly your typical remodeler. I have champagne taste and beer budget. I know what I like and am willing to do the work and go the extra mile to get it. "Discount" Tile outlet is what we call this place. We have been going there since the early 90s when we bought our first house in Chicago and had to remodel the kitchen and bathrooms that were straight out of the 1940s. They have a cornucopia of tile to choose from with the normal ceramic stuff all the way to the fancy schmany glass and high end Italian granite. We have gone in armed with the square footage we needed and a vague idea of what we wanted and found things that were far better than we could have hoped that were still within our budget. It is my understanding that they buy "end lots" which means that they buy what is left over from a manufacturers lot or from a contractor that may be putting up a highrise and using 2 million square feet to do hundreds of bathrooms in the building and have a 2 to 10 thousand sq feet left over that they can't use. I really don't mind getting getting $60 a sq ft granite for $7 a sq ft just because someone ordered too much! The staff is great! They don't follow you around asking if you need help and breathing down your neck. When you know what you want you go up to the counter and tell them which tile and how much. They write it up and go get it. You pull your car around and they load you up. Great quality, cheap, simple and hassle free! P.S. Don't park on the street out front as they ticket at certain times of the day. Park in their lot just west of the entrance. read more

Don't waste your time going here! 1. The selection is no where comparable to floor and decor. 2. There is never anyone available to help you on the floor. 3. When i most recently bought tile, they loaded the ENTIRE wrong order into my car and then blamed it on me for being incorrect. 4. This is a long story but for the purposes of this review- they incorrectly calculated my tile totals, and when I came to return some unused tile they claimed that I had not paid the accurate amount for the tile- they claimed that the cashier had charged me too little (ok, but not my fault). I got upset when they had the nerve to ask me to PAY them for the amount that was remaining. I tried to explain that the amount I had paid was based on a sale that had been advertised the day I bought it and that i believed it was correct; however the stone age receipts they provide don't indicate sale prices or anything beyond what is being charged on that day, so it was my word against there's. They were SO rude and not apologetic what so ever, and told my husband that if we wanted to do "the right thing", we should pay them $450!!! Whatever the cause of the confusion, these are incredibly poor business practices, and the rudeness/audavity of your employees alone will have me (and anyone i know who is looking for tile) going elsewhere in the future. read more

Tile Outlet on Fullerton saved my budget. I looked through the mart and on Hubbard St. There's beautiful stuff out there if you pay $40-$75 $$$$ per sq.foot. Do the math. $40 X 200 sq feet = $8000. for JUST THE TILE I bought tile for $4.75 sp ft. BEAUTIFUL polished marble with sparkling geodes in it... The tile selection is okay mostly closeout stuff so once it's gone it gone. I gave it one star because this place has had the worse piss poor employee attitude I have ever seen I'm talking about I've bought a few things over the last ten years they go out of their way to hire the biggest tool jag balls they can find that's why I stop coming, unhelpful and treat you like dirt if you ask any tile questions. This place is AH-MAY-ZING! All of the running around and samples and decision making involved in a remodel made me very grumpy but I loved going to The Tile Outlet Company. There is no fuss, no salespeople in your face, and no jacked up prices. Wholesale tile is the way to go! The prices were fantastic and the tile is beautiful. I felt that we got a lot of great ideas by having the space and the freedom to wander. We purchase 2 of our 4 tile selections here - would have loved to get them all but they did not have the other two in stock (think Costco... first come, first serve). I brought my mil here to purchase some tiles for her bathroom. I have to say walking through there made me want to redo my bathroom. They have a huge selection, and they're prices are reasonable. Their employees pretty much hang out at a counter in the middle of the store. So when your ready you go to them and they get you what you need. Wish I could give this place zero stars. I walk in to spend a couple hundred dollars on tile for kitchen, bathroom and my entryway and all 7 or 8 of the employees that were there were too busy watching the hockey game to even acknowledge that there were customers in the store. I was in there for the better part of half an hour picking out supplies as they proceeded to turn off lights half an hour before they closed so I couldn't see what I was looking at. Not a single one of them even looked over, offered help or said hello for that matter. I don't care how cheaper or greater value this place may be able to offer but with my customer experience and service I received in our visits I will never go back or recommend anyone doing any business with this company. Our experience was so terrible, my wife and I walked away with what could have been an over $1k in cash purchase in stone/tile during today's visit. This was my second visit in less than 3 days as we were in the market for some tile and stone for our home renovations and decided to go in today with the expectation of leaving with our new stone and tile design we had chosen for our bathroom(s). Unfortunately, it was a waste of time and under no circumstances should this business operate with the attitude they did today. We dropped in around 2pm on a Sunday and since we already knew the exact tile we wanted to purchase we kindly asked one of the guys up front that we are ready to purchase when he informed us he was busy taking care of a customer but if we grabbed a seat someone else would come over and give us a hand. We literally sat for about 30-35 minutes when not a soul in sight came over despite him seeing us sit there even after he was done with the customer he'd just got off with and did not say a thing and ignored us. At this point I went over to another worker ( a woman) who was putting away some boxes and I kindly asked her if we could get some assistance and are ready to purchase when she rudely said "Can't you clearly see I'm busy here" I shrugged it off at first and followed by saying "Well is there someone you can call or get over here to help us, we are ready to purchase?" She didn't say a damn word and ignored us and went back to her work. My wife and I were so pissed off and livid that I shouted "I guess you don't want my business here" and we dropped the sample tiles and left the store absolutely ticked off. I'm sure these folks may not care one bit about service or their job, but when a business hires these type of incompetent people with poor attitudes, it's an absolute shame and embarrassment and a loss of revenue. We had cash in hand and they blew it. Instead we drove up further north to Chicago Home Carpet One on Lincoln Ave, and was a 180 difference in customer service. They were very helpful and gave us all the attention in the world and made it a very personal shopping experience. Needless to say we made the purchase with Carpet One and gladly gave them our business instead. Tile Outlet is an absolute atrocious business and should be ashamed of their customer service and practices. I would not recommend this place at all unless you like to be ignored, enjoy rude service or be treated like crap. They don't value their customers as they demonstrated to my wife and I today and am so happy they didn't get one single penny of my business. read more

Walked into this place and was surprised to see abour 8-9 staff members milling about behind the counter. I wandered the aisles for half an hour, walking past the counter, and past employees on the floor, and not one staff member bothered to say hello or ask if I had any questions or needed help. I wasnt overly impressed or excited by any of merchandise on display, so I even began leafing through the samples for custom orders. Giving this place 1 star for the service. The bf n I went in a Sunday afternoon to look at tile for the kitchen. There really is no line, or ticket for service; you just find an available associate. We must have been waiting for over 25 minutes for this girl behind the counter (idk if she was still in high school, or was the absent-minded daughter of the owner), while she was on the desk fone and watched us wait. After she was done, she drinks her water, and comes out from behind the desk, and starts to take a SELFIE!! I guess she really wanted to take advantage of the bright lighting. But seriously, congrats, and way to go go on the customer service. She could've at least been useful in directing us to someone who actually does their job. I'd be embarrassed! The good is that they have a large selection of tile. The bad is that the customer service is poor. I purchased 4 boxes of travertine tile, which comes boxed up, so you cannot see the tile in the box. I transported the tile to a lake home, and then opened up the tile. One of the 4 boxes had a very different color, basically a muhc darker tile. So I went back to the store asking to exchange the tile with a box that was closer to the tile I had from the other three boxes. Their response was "No. No returns are permitted". So, I said, "So I am basically stuck with a box of tiles that is a different color?" And the response was, "Well, we don't want to get stuck with the box...." I guess they prefer the customer get stuck with bad tile then they get stuck with bad tile. So I said, "So was I supposed to open each box prior to purchase?" and the response was "No, you are not allowed to open each box prior to purchase?" So, I asked "how was I supposed to know I was getting the same color tile?" and the response was "You don't". they suggested trying to mix in the differnt colors. Not what I wanted to hear. But I refused to buy another box of tile. I won't go back. There are plenty of tile stores that have a good exchange policy. Ok, a few years later I calmed down and went here again. Why? I was looking for tile to re-do my bathroom all over town and I couldn't find good prices or the tile I wanted in stock. My friend remodeled her bathroom at the same time and bought all her tile from the Merchandise Mart. I shopped at the Mart and then went to Tile Outlet to find similar tile, that was priced well and in stock. They had plenty of grout colors to choose from and I selected a really cool curry red that contrasts well with my mosaic neutral tile. I'm happy to report my experience was different this time. The staff was better and more helpful. I chose a stone tile that was being discontinued. I didn't have enough. The rep really worked with me to find solutions. There were some samples on the wall. I got those, He also shared with me that if I bought I polished stone and distressed it I could get the look of the original tile I purchased. It worked. I bought a box of the wrong tile, they took it back. I was there several times through the remodel. Remodeling is stressful and everything that can go wrong does go wrong. I shared my prior experience with the rep. He apologized and told me he knew who I was talking about. The gentleman I worked with before now most often works in the warehouse (good plan). I went back to show my new friends pictures of the finished result. They couldn't believe it was the same tile I purchased. My design is exquisite. Give these guys another chance. I have been shopping here for years but this is my first review. Hands down the single best place for quality tile at a low price in Chicago. I just recently completed a major bathroom remodel and what is a bathroom but feet and feet of tile? I was practically living at the tile outlet, roaming the store, asking dumb questions, returning stuff, buying more stuff. You know what? I am a tiny black lady and I never received anything less but the utmost in customer service here. I like that they don't swarm you when you enter the store. When I needed something I went up to the counter to get it. When two different types of tile I bought from the same manufacturer ended up not looking the same under the bathroom lights, I was able to return it with no problem and they had a great suggestion for a replacement (which I bought) right in the store. When I was 3 sq feet shy (because i forgot to account for cuts) they just gave me the sheets! Seriously, I was probably here every other day for months, and in that span I interacted with a bunch of different workers and they were all as nice as could be. Helping me load/ unload my car. The name of this place pretty much describes what it is all about, it's basically a big warehouse with a big selection of tiles that can be purchased in bulk. It's probably best suited for contractors/professionals or other folks who know exactly what they want, the staff seemed to have limited patience for questions from amateur home remodelers. They also have nothing along the lines of showroom displays or photos which might give you an idea of what the tiles might look like in actual application. read more

I am really surprised more people haven't knocked this place. While it does have much more of a selection than say Home Depot, you had better know exactly what you want, how much you want, and had better be darn sure it works with the other things you have going on with your renovation because you CANNOT RETURN IT. I've read other reviews stating the prices are great. Can't say we found this to be true. At literally every other store we looked, the white subway tile was less expensive. We brought 3 samples home for our contractor to look at and give his opinion. He pointed out slight finish differences in the subway tiles which we did not notice. Guess what...he did not pick Tile Outlet. Glad we didn't buy it from TO based on other reviews telling us how inexpensive this place is. I can't express how glad I am that there is a review that starts with the word "Meh". I think this place has a pretty great selection and a great location. But their return policy and customer service are bananas. I bought a ton of tile this summer and have just got around to tiling. I ended up with extra boxes of one kind and not enough of the other. So I took two unopened boxes back in hopes of exchanging them and paying the difference. The dude at the counter just pointed to the signs that, don't get me wrong, clearly state their return policy. I understand dude. I can read. I am not asking you what it says, I'm asking you why? Why not return it when you still sell the exact same thing? Especially for credit. There is probably a reason. Several years ago I checked this place out but they didn't carry any glass tile so we left disappointed. Decided to give them another try and so glad I did! We got beautiful glass tiles for our kitchen backsplash for less than a third of what they were asking at the fancy stores. $6 a square foot! Many colors and styles to choose from. Such a deal! I would avoid this place unless you are actually a contractor or can bring your contractor with you at the time of purchase. We bought the amount of tile recommended to us by the sales person at the store to tile our kitchen floor. We ended up with seven boxes of extra tile worth about $350 with taxes. But, because of their natural stone return policy, the store is refusing us a refund. What is the most dishonest about this is that when I called to ask the store manager, the sales lady claimed that we asked for that much extra. As if I knew anything about tile to prompt me to disagree with her suggestion and insist on buying more tile. If you are seriously considering buying tile here, you might want more of these details: The sales person told us we needed so much over our literal square footage because we were doing the tile at a 45-degree angle, and that we should have enough so that we wouldn't have to buy more (natural stone should all be from the same lot, etc.). At the end of the project, we had seven extra boxes, totalling about 50% more tile than we ever needed. To be misadvised is one thing, but to lie to save your own behind is another. I would not trust these sales people again, and have clearly not realized any "savings" from going to the tile outlet. read more

There are some amazing deals to be had here - but make sure you get spare tiles for your project. Much of their stock is remnant or clearance, so may be completely gone within a couple weeks, which sucks if you're short a few tiles. I have had a couple instances where I've seen the same tile at Home Depot for a couple dollars cheaper, but usually the price here is great. The guys that work here are generally great with advice too and are often willing to make a deal on final clearance stock. Also they seem to accept practically no returns - so make sure your sure. read more

As long as you know what you're looking for, have an idea about how much you need, know how to install it, and DO NOT REQUIRE ANY BIT OF HELP FROM ANYBODY, this is a great place. Really, truly and seriously, the employees do not want to hear your questions. At all. Not once, in any of the half-dozen times I've been in that store, has anyone ever volunteered assistance to anyone I've ever seen. In fact, today the associate behind the desk actually answered his cell phone and conversed loudly with his buddy about being hungover, and how he was counting the minutes till closing. We also disturbed one guy texting (he was clearly aggravated by the disruption), and another reading the paper. Aside from that, they have an incredible selection, great prices, and are very willing to let you take tile samples home with you. Just understand that YOU CANNOT RETURN ANYTHING. And, of course, they will not volunteer that information freely. When you check out, please don't expect a courteous "have a nice day", or "thank you", or even "bye". Just pick up your tile that you found amongst a great selection, that you got for a good price, and go home. They don't care to see you again. read more

Great spot for stone tile or glass tile at a good price. A lot of marble / travertine / slate both in large format and mosaics. Basic glass tile (square, brick, etc.) in a wide variety of color. Never been impressed with ceramic selection here (but you can get stone for a ceramic price!). Quality is reasonable for the price you are paying. Don't expect stone mosaics to be as perfectly cut or from as perfect stones as a $50 option, but for a fraction of the price, you get a good product that looks good when properly installed. Service is fine if you know what you're doing and what you're looking for. They're clear on the return policy; happy to let you take samples home; and may throw in a sheet or two for free. read more

Really happy with Tile Outlet! Marco and Mark (and the bearded/mustache guy) were all so nice and helpful! I went in like four times before buying anything, and they were great each time. They let me take a ton of samples for FREE unlike Studio 41 that made me pay per tile. Plus they had way more of a selection for what I was looking for (a light grey woodgrain tile). Overall just really nice and professional guys. My tile is being installed as we speak and I haven't heard anything from my contractors about tiles being broken or wrong, etc. Definitely go here for your tile needs! The one thing I will say is that it sometimes seems like there are a bunch of guys just standing around, but I definitely got asked if I needed help at any point when I approached the counter. I think it's because most people like just browsing and looking and you don't want to be asked 20 times if you need help in one store. So, if you need help, just ask! They're so nice. read more
