We strongly discourage future consumers from doing any business with Tile by Design. We're sharing our experience so that other consumers do not find themselves being taken advantage in the way that we have been. Tile by Design does not disclose either in writing, verbally, or on their website if specific tile is special order/non-refundable. When we placed the order for our tile, we specifically asked if the 10% overage in square footage was returnable. A Tile by Design employee told us that it was in fact returnable. Additionally, none of the paperwork we receive, including the receipt, said that the tile was special order/non-refundable. After receiving the tile, we discovered that it was full of scratches, divots, pin holes, air bubbles, and chipped edges. When attempting to return the tile, they would not accept. They told us the only way we could return the tile was if we paid for a shipping and restocking fee, which resulted in 40% of the overall purchase. We even offered to share the return costs by suggesting 20% each and they refused. Their lack of integrity for both the quality of their product and treatment of their customers is unacceptable. We encourage all consumers to take your business elsewhere. read more

I ordered some floor tile with a 2-3 week leadtime. After 3 weeks I called to see why my order hadn't arrived. Only then did they find out that the product was back ordered for another 6 weeks. They sat on my order for 3 weeks and no one ever bothered to confirm the delivery date or get back to me. Unacceptable. Never again. read more

This is a very posh place where you are greeted by a receptionist, offered coffee or water and they call a consultant to help you. In the minutes that I was browsing by myself I noticed the prices were waaaaasy above my budget. Like my budget was $5 to 15 and some of the things were $50 a square-foot, $100 a square foot. So when my consultant, Chris, came I was just totally honest about my budget and what I was looking for. We walked around and brainstormed but never really found anything in my budget. The things that I did like (and they have colors galore, amazing products!) were $28-$40 per square foot. I asked Chris for recommendations of other places to go or maybe online and we ended up talking about salvage and reclamation stores where they could maybe be a box of old tiles from the early 1900s that were never used. I would've never thought they had tiles! We also talked about the houses he remodeled and my 104 year old house and how Minnesotans have fear of anything besides beige! He gave me the idea of arabesque tile's which are sort of classic but a little in style right now. If you have the budget for this place, highly recommended! read more

I rehab homes for a living and was looking for some beautiful marble mosaic tiles in keeping with the original look of a 1912 home I was working on. Decided to shop around and stopped at this place. I walked in to browse their selection. I was the only one in the store, and the two older women working there watched me walk in, paused their conversation with each other to give me a once-over, and then continued on with their convo, no greeting or anything. I must've been in the store for about 10 minutes by the time one of them bothered to pay any attention to me. When I told the woman I was interested in marble tiles, she said, "Marble is quite expensive, you know. Would this be something in your price range?" How insulting. I think they judged me based on my jeans and t-shirt - I don't rehab homes dressed to the 9s...does anyone? and I was really insulted that they insinuated I couldn't afford their products. I told her I had 200K to work with, was that enough to afford her tile? And then left to go to The Tile Shop down the street. Glad I did as The Tile Shop people are wonderful and their prices and selections are much, much better than Tile By Design, plus the quality of their tile is fabulous as well. I found tiles I really liked at The Tile Shop, they gave me free samples to take home and then 25% off my total order. And the tile I picked out - beautiful marble mosiac - was 10.99/sq ft compared to Tile By Design's whopping 35$/sq ft! So no contest, do not go to this store. Way overpriced, smaller selection of tile, and rude staff. read more

I am in the flooring business working at a wholesale trade showroom. I have worked with a lot of our local distributors of tile and assorted other products. I have to say my experience with Tile By Design has always been great. But more recently had the opportunity to work with the commercial division of Tile By Design. They are phenomenal. They are great for suggestions for specifications for helping with the A&D community. They have broken speed records on helping with revisions. When there is a problem they have a solution. But in my experience, especially with Jennifer, she has made my job not only easier but more fun. She is ethical and honest and hard working. The staff is always trying to help me even if my main contact is not there. The showroom is almost always busy but if I ask a question they usually have a suggestion or help me figure out how to best help my clients. Foe me being in the industry it is always a joy to find people who are passionate about helping their clients and finding solutions and helping us do our jobs better. This crew are all fabulous at that. Kudos to the entire staff, but thank you to my bright spot in my hectic days Jennifer, who has saved me and show her ethical colors so many times. And she makes me laugh which in itself is a gift. Great Job to all of you having to put up with crazy customers like me. read more

We were referred to this store by a friend in the home remodel business so we had high expectations. the selection of tile was great and had more of what we were looking for compared to other tile shops. we visited a number of times and had mixed experiences with different staff - some were helpful and made suggestions of things we hadn't thought of, others made it feel like we had to drag the help out of them and didn't seem like they were on the same train of thought as what we tried to communicate. in the end, we found the tile we loved and are really happy with it, now that it's installed. HOWEVER, the customer service between ordering and getting the tile in has been terrible... disorganized, lack of communication, difficult to find someone who knows the answers or who is willing to help, unfulfilled order times, and others. we were given an estimated delivery date - which I realize is an estimate when considering hand made tile and delivery by truck- so I called periodically to see if there were updates along the way, as we needed to schedule the installer. I called a week before the estimated date, a few days before, the day before, all still under the impression it was coming as planned. booked the installer, then the day of, called to check in, found out that it was coming on a different mode of delivery than planned and was a week out (?!). wasted a whole week of our contractor's time as there were projects left waiting for tile to come in. no one really was flexible in trying to make it right... the attitude was more of "it is what it is, deal with it." had to order a second round of tile, called a few days later to verify the order, and they couldn't find the order for a while (20 minutes on the phone), then when they found it, the amount of tile listed was incorrect (nearly double what we needed, custom order), and it hadn't even been sent in to the tile maker yet (this is a Thursday to Monday timeframe, so they had 3.5 business days to process our small, simple, repeat order). Unfortunately, we love the tile and this is the only place locally that carries the line. otherwise we would 100% look for an alternative. Bathroom is our next project and as much as we love the tile, we're trying to weigh whether it's worth it to try and work with them again. I like merchants who know what their industry is, communicate well and pay attention to detail - I don't enjoy feeling like I need to check in on them frequently just to make sure the job gets done correctly. read more
