Maybe my favorite Indian restaurant in the DC area! Wow, this restaurant was absolutely amazing. The potato nest was a huge highlight of the night! It was better than the best samosa chaat I've ever had. The entrees are good sized and served in beautiful bowls. Our service was very prompt and included 20% gratuity. And to top it all off, our waitress brought us some incredible pistachio ice cream! I will definitely be back to this delicious place.

This is a great option to eat out if you are using the Van Ness metro stop! The workers were all very nice and made sure to check in on us and refill our waters. I really liked how there was also a strawberry lassi option because you don't get to see that too much. I also really enjoyed the platter that came with lamb, shrimp, chicken, and lentils! The butter chicken was pretty standard. The mango kulfi was also delicious! I love the blue flower decoration on everything. There was a good amount of seating inside and nice decor.

Great new addition to the neighborhood! It's a lovely spot with beautiful decor. Check out the bar! We had great service-- so many people checking in on us! We had samosas, a spicy mango margarita, cheese naan, garlic naan, shrimp curry and chicken tikka. All of our items were tasty! Definitely want to come back and try more!

Really enjoyed my experience for lunch. The Thali is a great bet if you want to get a variety of tastes. The Naan bread was delicious. Look forward to getting back.

We had an EXCELLENT experience here! Stopped in on a Friday for thali plates for lunch. The place is well appointed. The thali was flavorful and delicious; just the right amount for a lunch serving. Hopefully the place has staying power, because we need a good Indian spot in Van Ness!

How great to discover Tikka, just a few weeks after it opened. You know you're in for a treat as soon as you walk in - the aromas of Indian spices smell delicious. Restaurants in this location seem to turn over fairly regularly, and I hope the neighborhood and those from other neighborhoods like myself support it heartily so we can enjoy their cooking and hospitality for years to come. I went with two friends for lunch, we were all impressed. We all loved the vegetarian thali, a lunch special. There's also a meat option. One friend commented that it was similar to a meal she got at Rasika for over double the price. Everything was great - the food, the attentive service, the ambience. You can tell that everything has been done with care. I'm looking forward to going again next week.

Tikka is a new Indian/Nepalese restaurant in the Van Ness neighborhood. The service was great, and the food was the best Indian food I've had in D.C. I came for lunch and ordered the thali plate, which came with butter chicken, lamb, saag paneer, chana masala, salad, bread, rice, and a dessert (you can also get a vegetarian thali plate). In my opinion it's a generous portion for $20-$22. It's definitely enough for two meals. I also ordered a mango lassi. The mango lassi and butter chicken were some of the best ones I've ever had. I will definitely be back!

Tables had mini candles, white tablecloths and cloth napkins. I wish there were images of the food on the menu to get an idea of what some of the dishes were like. Everything like the curries, all came out in square shaped bowls, rather than on individual plates. I ordered Tandori Chicken which came with white basmati rice, and a side of plain naan bread. The chicken was delish, however it was dry and needed something wet like a curry to bring it all together. Next time, I would order another dish with the tandori chicken to bring it all together. The basmati rice was made perfectly, fluffy with toasted cumin seeds and a hint of oil. The plain naan bread was baked to perfection, toasty on the outside, chewy and moist on the inside with a hint of oil drizzled on top. Yumm! I had a Tamarind Margarita, which was unique and had a good kick to it. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food. Some folks shared a few items so they had more options. I would do that the next time. Highly recommend.

This was very good for a completely unplanned quick lunch (45min).The curry sauce was so good you could neglect the fig and paneer (which were good) and just eat the sauce with the rice. I've never felt that way about a curry sauce and I have had a fair bit of Indian food in a few trips around the sun. Versatile offerings; including things you don't get elsewhere along with the traditionals. Generous portions. Get the mango lassi with your meal. Polite sincere service. Stop in for lunch. It is on the smaller side, and one group was turned away for not having a reservation. I got a dumpling appetizer which delivered a mouthwatering array of vegetables, and a reasonably interesting fruity drink. The thing I came for, however, was a chole bhature. This fried bread and chickpea combination came with all the right accompaniments, and the chickpeas were richly flavored. It was a fantastic meal down to the last bite. It would not have been as good to go, and I recommend eating in. Service was a bit slow and they could have used another person working, but it was a clean and pleasant place to eat.

Great lunch buffet - same owner as Haandi in Falls Church, VA! Enjoyed the weekend lunch buffet…read more$21.95 for adults ($18.95 weekdays) and $8.95 for kids. There are about a dozen dishes, 1/2 vegetarian and 1/2 meat with fresh plain naan. I came 1/2 way through the buffet at 1pm (buffet is from 11:30am - 2:30pm) and the dishes were all warm and tasted fresh. There's amble seating with tables and booths, and 1/2 dozen patio seating as well. The Palak Paneer was creamy soft tender cubed of paneer while the Malai Kofta was a sweet gravy. The Lentil Dhal Makhani was flavorful and savory. The crispy vegetable Pakora fritters were tasty and glad that they were freshly refilled when there a few left in the tray. The Basmati Rice was flavrful and paired well with the curry dishes. The crispy Cauliflower Manchurin was the only dish that was a bit brittle and soggy from sitting out and lost its fresh, crunchy soft texture. It was a slight bummer that Samosa wasn't offered in the buffet. The naan was made to order and pillowy soft. Note that Garlic Naan is not included and paid an extra $4.50 for it (I was expecting a small upcharge, not to pay full price, not a big deal). The service was great and I chatted a bit with the manager. The food tastes exactly like Haandi in VA and used to be named Haandi as well. You can get carry-out buffet - 2 pounds worth and will be back for it!

Unfortunately, the last few visits haven't been great, and tonight was the worst it's ever been. I ordered the matar paneer and it was watery and almost completely flavorless, which is very unlike what I've had there before. The rice was even more disappointing -- it tasted old and was hardened into clumps, almost molded into the shape of the container instead of being individual grains. It was difficult to even break apart. The samosas were good, which was the one bright spot, but the garlic naan barely had any garlic on it. Normally their naan is amazing and very flavorful. I'm really disappointed because this used to be my go-to spot for Indian food. I'm hoping this was just a bad night, but after a few recent experiences that were also lacking in freshness and flavor, I may have to start looking for a new place.

Fantastic Indian food in Silver Spring, plus great service and lovely decor! I need to go here more…read moreoften. My friend was visiting and there's no good Indian food near her, so of course that's where we were going to go. I've tried Spice Street a few times and have always enjoyed it. We started with mango lassies and the samosa chat. The samosas are served split with a pile of chickpeas and several sauces. It was messy and very good, although next time I might just try the samosas are their own. The mango lassi is SO GOOD! So good! Just get it and thank me later. For our meal we decided to share the dal makhani, saag paneer, and shrimp coconut masala, with a side of garlic naan. We ordered way too much so that we could have some delicious leftovers and that worked out really well. Everything was excellent! I particularly liked the shrimp coconut masala, and would definitely order that again. The saag was a bit spicy for me, but the dal was amazing, perfectly creamy and so flavorful. The garlic naan was perfectly cooked and not oily at all, which you sometimes get at other restaurants. We were incredibly full, but couldn't stop without dessert. We shared the gulab jamen, which was so yummy (as long as you like incredibly sweet, which I do). A special shout out to the team of wait staff, who were all really friendly and responsive. They were great! I now have enough leftovers for at least three more meals. Woot! Go here! Get Indian! Enjoy!

I've…read moreheard great things about Chai Pani in Asheville for years, so I was thrilled they opened up a location in DC. Chai Pani serves Indian street food, and the restaurant is vibrant and colorful and fun. The service was also great - friendly, helpful. My mom is vegan, and their menu is very vegetarian- and vegan-friendly. We shared: Disco Bhel (puri, puffed rice, boondi, corn poha, sev, onion, cilantro, roasted peanuts, tamarind & green chutneys, bhel mix, pomegranate); Sweet Potato Chaat (roasted sweet potatoes, pomegranate, masala cashews, golden raisins, red onions, cilantro & corn poha; tossed with tamarind & green chutneys); matchstick okra fries (julienned "okra fries" tossed with salt & seasoning, served with a lime wedge); Sabudana Vada Tots (crispy tater & tapioca tots seasoned with green chillies, curry leaves, cumin & ginger; served with Maggi hot & sweet ketchup); wild mushroom & scallion uttapam (Exotic mixed mushrooms, scallions, green chilli, ginger & curry leaf; served with coconut chutney & ghee-podi); Sloppy Jai (spiced lamb hash simmered with tomatoes, ginger & aromatic spices; garnished with onions & cilantro, green chutney, sweet yogurt & served on two toasted pav); and coconut chutney sorbet Sundae (coconut sorbet infused with hints of ginger, curry leaf, & cumin; topped with a chocolate shell). Everything (with the exception of the lamb take on a sloppy Joe) was vegan or veganized, and everything was delicious. I had reached my alcohol max for the day, so we had some non-alcoholic drinks (even though their drinks looked great). I had their Golden Pineapple (Spicewalla Golden Milk blend mixed with fresh lime and pineapple), and my husband had a Tamarind Cola. With dessert, I also had a Chai - and theirs is a treat (although I wanted to read my book and take a nap right after - the coziest beverage on a rainy day). I had a great time at Chai Pani. Their Indian street food menu is great - I wanted everything. And the service made the meal even better. We had a reservation, and I recommend you make one, too! They had some tables for walk-ins but they were time limited or high-tops. If you want to make sure you get a table, make a reservation ahead of time! I had a great dinner; I'd love to return.

She liked the food just as much as we do -- this time we tried the catfish special , catfish koliwada (I confess I was disappointed to find that the dish came in fried bite-sized morsels instead of whole filet), plus the disco bhel, aloo tikki chaat, and lamb kala masala (my favorite of them all), as well as another kale pakora chaat. Our daughter-in-law wanted some extra spice and was brought a small plate with a few hot peppers and a very spicy pickle (a small extra charge). One disappointment was the very loud music blaring , making it harder to chat in a normal voice -- the maitre d' explained that it is equally loud throughout the restaurant, providing an atmosphere comparable to Mumbai. I was not impressed by that excuse (and besides, it was NOT that loud every where in Mumbai when we were there 25 years ago) Sill, good and interesting food. A recommended place
