Really enjoyed my experience for lunch. The Thali is a great bet if you want to get a variety of tastes. The Naan bread was delicious. Look forward to getting back.

We had an EXCELLENT experience here! Stopped in on a Friday for thali plates for lunch. The place is well appointed. The thali was flavorful and delicious; just the right amount for a lunch serving. Hopefully the place has staying power, because we need a good Indian spot in Van Ness!

How great to discover Tikka, just a few weeks after it opened. You know you're in for a treat as soon as you walk in - the aromas of Indian spices smell delicious. Restaurants in this location seem to turn over fairly regularly, and I hope the neighborhood and those from other neighborhoods like myself support it heartily so we can enjoy their cooking and hospitality for years to come. I went with two friends for lunch, we were all impressed. We all loved the vegetarian thali, a lunch special. There's also a meat option. One friend commented that it was similar to a meal she got at Rasika for over double the price. Everything was great - the food, the attentive service, the ambience. You can tell that everything has been done with care. I'm looking forward to going again next week.

The host at Tikka is wonderful; very good customer service. The food is delicious and great for the price.

Tikka is a new Indian/Nepalese restaurant in the Van Ness neighborhood. The service was great, and the food was the best Indian food I've had in D.C. I came for lunch and ordered the thali plate, which came with butter chicken, lamb, saag paneer, chana masala, salad, bread, rice, and a dessert (you can also get a vegetarian thali plate). In my opinion it's a generous portion for $20-$22. It's definitely enough for two meals. I also ordered a mango lassi. The mango lassi and butter chicken were some of the best ones I've ever had. I will definitely be back!

Just went here recently with a few friends and as South Asians, we thought it was delicious! The food wasn't too creamy, heavy, or modern. It had all the Indian staples and great drinks. The service was good and checked in often. The space is beautiful, well lit and decorated. I would definitely come back!

achari paneer

Was craving some classic north Indian food for dinner and Tikka did not disappoint! The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and the service was very quick. We tried the baby eggplant with naan. The gravy was so flavorful and aromatic, and the eggplant was cooked perfectly. We also tried the achari paneer which had a nice kick to it and was a pretty big portion for an appetizer. All of the dishes were also very reasonably priced, I would definitely come here again.

Good addition to the neighborhood. The food is good. The service was fine. Not too loud, decent decor. I'd go back.

All of the food was fresh and delicious. I loved all of the seasoning and sauces. The tandoori chicken and goat were cooked perfectly. The meats were tender a juicy. There were a couple of parties that called prior and made reservations. The ambience was very warm and inviting. I saw some diners dining alone and many locals. There was also a large party of 12 dining here. The servers were attentive. My friend and I really enjoyed our dining experience here and will definitely be back to try out their dinner menu.

Unfortunately, the last few visits haven't been great, and tonight was the worst it's ever been. I ordered the matar paneer and it was watery and almost completely flavorless, which is very unlike what I've had there before. The rice was even more disappointing -- it tasted old and was hardened into clumps, almost molded into the shape of the container instead of being individual grains. It was difficult to even break apart. The samosas were good, which was the one bright spot, but the garlic naan barely had any garlic on it. Normally their naan is amazing and very flavorful. I'm really disappointed because this used to be my go-to spot for Indian food. I'm hoping this was just a bad night, but after a few recent experiences that were also lacking in freshness and flavor, I may have to start looking for a new place.

Definitely recommend making a reservation. We walked in and got lucky to have two seats at the bar available for us, but don't risk it like us. We ordered the aloo tikki chaat and disco bhel to start. The aloo tikki chaat was amazing! So flavorful. We then shared the lamb which was incredible. The meat literally fell off the bone. I had a mango lassi on the side to balance the spice, which I recommend. And to end the night, we had to order the gulab jamun. Amazing!!! Ugh the warmth and sweetness is exactly what we needed. Amazing meal, can't wait to come back and try more from the menu!

I got the chili chicken, which I expected to be spicy and it was. I also tried the okra which was cooked very creatively for a dish that is hard to make good. I ended with the lamb shank, the quality of the meat and how it was cooked was very good, but the sauce it came it was so spicy it made it hard to enjoy the dish. I love Indian food and Indian food fusion, and I'm used to the spice that comes with it, but between the chili chicken and lamb shank it felt like they were spicy for no reason, the spice didn't seem to enhance the flavor experience. I will say the drinks were solid, including the mango lassie. Overall, good spot and I recommend it - it just didn't quite meet expectations but the expectations were very high.
