A great spot for groups with different dietary preferences! I came to Tikka with a group that had a variety of dietary preferences, and I was really impressed by how easily they were able to accommodate everyone. There were plenty of options beyond the usual, including the vegan jackfruit biryani and tandoori wings. I had the chicken tikka masala with lamb naan, and both were delicious. The mocktails were also a standout! I tried the Cucumber Collins, and it was refreshing, flavorful, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. The service was excellent. Our server was really kind, attentive, and made the experience feel welcoming without being overbearing. As for the atmosphere, it's moderately noisy, but you can still comfortably have a conversation at your table. It wasn't overly crowded or cramped when I visited, which I appreciated. Getting a reservation was easy, and there's metered street parking nearby, which is reasonably priced for DC. Overall, you can have a really nice meal here for around $50 per person, depending on what you order. Definitely a spot I'd recommend for a group dinner, especially when everyone has different dietary needs! read more

I got some quick takeout just to make use of a card offer and because I was in the neighborhood. This metro stop is not exactly known for being a food destination and there's a hip new South Indian restaurant up the road, so I wasn't sure this North Indian restaurant would be able to compete. However, I have to say it was good stuff. The momos I ordered had a bit of paneer in addition to vegetables and a sauce that wasn't quite enough for all (me being me, I had sauce at home). The star of the show, however, was a smoky, hearty dal that was great with or without the bread I added. I got two small meals out of it, so a reasonable value after my cost savings. I'm not sure that the Van Ness stop will ever draw big crowds, but I'd go back to this restaurant again anyway. read more

Maybe my favorite Indian restaurant in the DC area! Wow, this restaurant was absolutely amazing. The potato nest was a huge highlight of the night! It was better than the best samosa chaat I've ever had. The entrees are good sized and served in beautiful bowls. Our service was very prompt and included 20% gratuity. And to top it all off, our waitress brought us some incredible pistachio ice cream! I will definitely be back to this delicious place. read more

This is a great option to eat out if you are using the Van Ness metro stop! The workers were all very nice and made sure to check in on us and refill our waters. I really liked how there was also a strawberry lassi option because you don't get to see that too much. I also really enjoyed the platter that came with lamb, shrimp, chicken, and lentils! The butter chicken was pretty standard. The mango kulfi was also delicious! I love the blue flower decoration on everything. There was a good amount of seating inside and nice decor. read more

Outstanding food, prompt and friendly service Tikka shines as our favorite Iocal restaurant. We tried the whole pompano which was amazing, perfectly cooked (broiled), albeit a bit bony (not their fault). Not to be missed are the juicy and tender lamb chops. But the most satisfying selection is the baby eggplant simmered to perfection in the incomparable creamy sauce -- perfect with naan or basmati rice or both. Perfect with their own mango chutney. The food, service and ambiance were all 5/5!!!! Amazing food, our server was super friendly and helpful about questions regarding our dietary restrictions. The place is cozy but in an upscale way (lovely for conversations without super loud music). It's a fancier spot if you're willing to splurge a little (for a student, that is), but def worth it (definitely affordable for working professionals). Tikka is a great addition to Van Ness! Cute interior that gives 60s mid-century modern vibes coupled with some very friendly and attentive staff. The food is good, with a more modern/elevated twist on some North Indian and Nepali classics. They also still seem to be updating/improving their menu as they've opened recently. We were looking forward to this new dining spot in this doomed location. We love Rasika. The drinks are great. Very inventive and delicious. The service is also wonderful. Very friendly. The food is pretty standard Indian fare, it as a neighborhood newcomer we ate there a few times. Beware, the portions are skimpy. We ordered two drinks, two entrees and garlic nan. The order came with only 1 very small scoop of rice, which was a problem because the dishes we ordered were light on protein and were mostly sauce. On the most recent trip, we spent $125 (with tax and tip) and left hungry, unusual in Indian restaurants which typically have generous portions. read more

How great to discover Tikka, just a few weeks after it opened. You know you're in for a treat as soon as you walk in - the aromas of Indian spices smell delicious. Restaurants in this location seem to turn over fairly regularly, and I hope the neighborhood and those from other neighborhoods like myself support it heartily so we can enjoy their cooking and hospitality for years to come. One friend commented that it was similar to a meal she got at Rasika for over double the price. Everything was great - the food, the attentive service, the ambience. Tikka is a new Indian/Nepalese restaurant in the Van Ness neighborhood. The service was great, and the food was the best Indian food I've had in D.C. I came for lunch and ordered the thali plate, which came with butter chicken, lamb, saag paneer, chana masala, salad, bread, rice, and a dessert (you can also get a vegetarian thali plate). In my opinion it's a generous portion for $20-$22. It's definitely enough for two meals. I also ordered a mango lassi. The mango lassi and butter chicken were some of the best ones I've ever had. We waited over an hour to even be served our appetizer of just garlic naan. We watched over half the restaurant come after us,get served and leave. Our server disappeared we sat there with empty drink cups. When my fiancé went to find her he was told it would be right out. Another 10 minutes we asked the manager and were blatantly ignored. They brought my fiancé his meal finally while my aunt and I were still left with no food. It's not like I ordered anything complicated garlic naan and butter chicken! At just 2 weeks old, Tikka shines as a rising star! The service and food was wonderful and the ambience strikes a great balance between casual and nice. The spinach chat and paneer apps were fresh and tasty. The smoky black lentils were delicious with a perfect texture. The baby eggplant in a creamy sauce with ground peanuts was quite tasty, and the popular butter chicken was wonderful. All of the flavors stood out without being too spicy or too sweet. Went with a large group (~15 people) but the restaurant was nice enough to accommodate all of us, and the service was quite excellent. The servers were constantly checking in on us and they were able to get all our orders correct and out in a timely manner. The food is absolutely incredible. We only planned to order a few appetizers before getting mains but they were so good we kept ordering more, we pretty much got every item on the apps menu but my favorite was the Mango Palak Chaat, so delicious and refreshing, I could probably eat a whole bowl of it by myself. I also ordered the Lamb Korma which was excellent, and because I was so full from the appetizers I had leftovers, and it's still so good the next day. My whole group of like 14 people were all very satisfied. Looking forward to coming back to Tikka! read more

A worthy successor to Laliguras. The dining room has been completely renovated, and is now an attractive venue. Everything we had was excellent. The momos are still on the menu, and are great, with a delicate wrapper and tasty ground chicken inside. Samosas come three to an order, and are bite sized, as opposed to the traditional size. Nevertheless, they were fine, with not a hit of grease. We ordered the lamb vindaloo and baby eggplant in a delicate peanut sauce. Enjoyed both. Mains are not huge, but with the two starters, we were completely full. Prices are moderate. Looking forward to visiting again, especially when they get their liquor license. They're offering a 15% discount for the month of February. If the Van Ness neighborhood wants more dining options, I hope they support this great new addition. read more
