This place is super yummy and the staff is super friendly. My favorite are the flautas! But if you like tacos, definitely try the pink one during the month of October in support of breast cancer awareness and research. If you haven't been to this place, they have a fairly small menu (one pager) and you order at the counter and sit down. The wait is indeterminate - one time we went and were served fairly quickly, today we went and ended up waiting for quite some time for our food (2 kids meals and 2 adult meals) to arrive. Having grown up in Southern California, I have a certain appreciation with Mexican food; unfortunately Tijuana Flats fails to impress on several levels. I was particularly disappointed by their menu, which I found to be somewhat deceptive price-wise. I had one of their burritos with "blackened" chicken (which was really just "oversalted" chicken), and found it to be light on pretty much everything - there wasn't much meat - and the burrito itself was really mostly just tortilla. As far as contents - unlike other places (like Moes, Chipotle) they don't put cheese or beans in their burritos - getting that stuff is another "upcharge" was very disappointed, and left still feeling hungry. So basically, a burrito is protein, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, onion, and jalapenos. On the other hand, the tostada my wife has was pretty good..so there is that. Don't be fooled into thinking that their "hot sauce bar" is a "salsa" bar - it's just a bunch of hot sauces from a variety of places. They'd likely do much better with a salsa bar - especially since they charge you for a side of salsa (more on the "upcharges" in a bit.) Unless you're really into hot sauces, it's really just a gimmick (and I suspect the number of people really into hot sauces is a small percentage of their clientele - judging from the people actually visiting it during lunch.) My biggest gripe about this place (and places like it) is that they've assumed the business model of "keep prices comparatively low, but charge for every little thing." Want sour cream on the side with a kids meal? upcharge for that. Pico de gallo in a burrito? upcharge for that. Beans in a burrito? upcharge for that . Basically, I got used to asking for something, and being told "sorry, it doesn't come with that, but we can add it (for a fee)" I'm not opposed to paying more for things I want, but I find the business model to be somewhat deceptive. The food is just barely "okay" here (and quite salty, to boot)... My advice? Head for the nearest Moes, Quedoba, or Chipotle - you'll get better food, at a better value, likely with faster service! read more

This is by far my most favorite taco place around town. Really in the US so far! I travel so much and eat at a lot of places. They have the best queso! You should become a regular. I was not impressed with my first visit to Tijuana Flats. I ordered a soft taco with carnitas, and a hard taco with beef and refried beans. The tacos were somewhat bland, lacking flavor. And I was expecting the hard taco shell to be more crunchy and crispy. They score an "A" for service, cleanliness, and the impressive array of hot sauces to choose from. Their prices are up there in the Chipotle and Lime Fresh range, but the food lacks the quality and flavor of Chipotle. Was in Raleigh for work with a coworker and we were in search of a good lunch place. In our search Tijuana Flats popped up, so we decided to give it a try. The service was great from as soon as we walked in, until we left. All the employees were constantly moving.. taking orders, cleaning, delivering food, refilling drinks and checking on tables! After asking what was better to try the burrito or enchiladas I went with the recommendation of Enchiladas. I ordered Veggie Enchiladas with Black beans, Tijuana Style and wet (this meaning topped with queso cheese), my friend ordered the chicken Tosado which looked really good as well. I am a big hot sauce person so I was in total heaven with the selection of hot sauces. I probably tried 5 of the flavors and I have to say I loved them all! Nothing about this place is not to love. Really good food at reasonable prices, great atmosphere with plenty of comfortable seats inside and out, and the staff genuinely treat you like close friends or family. Most Tex-Mex places serve bland unseasoned chips but here you get chips with salt and pepper goodness. The queso is also different and more like you would make at home. The sauce bar though is the best part of it all. 16 hot sauces ranging from sweet chili to "death wish" and all have plenty of flavor. Oh, and kids eat free on Sunday! read more

We were in the new shopping center with the Harris Teeter and the only food spots open yet are this and Jersey Mike's. We decided to give the Tijuana Flats a try. I was optimistic going, one of the friendly girls that works there open the doors for us, gave up menus and explained to us to order at the register and then they'll bring us our food. The cashier was very friendly too, we asked him for his recommendation and he explained in song. I ordered the Pick Dos with a Carnitas Taco, Chicken Chimichanga, rice and refried beans. Once I added a soda that was about $11. The food came out and that was when the disappointment kicked in. It wasn't that great especially for the price. It's americanized Mexican fast food that's just ok. I wouldn't go out of my way for their food, but it wasn't terrible either. The only thing I really didn't like was their rice, it was kinda wet and I didn't enjoy the flavor. The food is very fast food like, but the prices are not. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 is because I'm looking realistically at where Tijuana Flats falls in the food chain. (no pun intended) It's miles and miles and miles above the taste and quality of a Taco Bell, but at the same time if you take a first date here for a Mexican dinner, it will probably be your last date. I love their food though and could easily eat there at least a couple of times a week. Service is always fast and super nice. I usually order online and go by to pick it up to bring home, but the last couple of times I tried to order online the website got hung up on payment processing. I had some time to kill so I decided to just go down to the restaurant and order then just wait it out. I explained the online issue to one of the managers, who seemed genuinely concerned about it, and was told that it had happened before but thought it was fixed. Apparently the problem stemmed from people like me that have their card information saved on their site. If you use the saved information it gets hung up, but if you manually input the info it goes through as normal. Obviously it's a big problem for customers and especially for the restaurant, but it is being addressed. To sum it all up: Friendly, attentive staff, convenient, priced just right and it will easily turn into one of those places that you crave and have to have a few times a month. UPDATE: This is the main reason I felt compelled to write the review in the first place, then noticed I didn't even mention this. One of the best things about Tijuana Flats is that the meats they serve aren't nearly 50% liquid like places like Moe's or Chipotle. I got on a steak quesadilla kick a few weeks ago after seeing an advertisement photo for a steak quesadilla at Moe's. Went there and ordered one and after 2 or 3 bites I had juice running down my arms and hands and the tortilla was starting to look more like just a ball of wet dough. On the flip side, ordered a steak quesadilla from Tijuana Flats and it looked more like the Moe's picture than the Moe's quesadilla did, didn't get my upper body soaking wet, and tasted incredible. read more

Name of this place reminds of my visit to Tijuana, a serene place in north western Mexico (Baja California Norte), just 10 miles south of San Diego. I ordered norito bowl (without burrito, so norito). They use more spices, as compared to Chipotle, not to add hotness but to provide flavor. For the hot quotient, they have "spicy hot sauces" separately stationed and you are welcome to carry over the samples. read more

I had a beef taco and beef enchilada with rice & beans. We shared queso and chips. She loved her food. I liked my taco and found the enchilada needing more red sauce. The rice was good; the beans were ok. The chips were good. There are many salsa choices. Certainly was filled up. Prices: Decent since portion sizes are big on the entres. Normally I would rate them higher. I would say you get what you would expect from fast casual Mexican. I normally get tacos and have not had complaints. My last visit was definitely sub-par. Ordered a steak chimichanga and it came as just a few strips of steak wrapped in a large tortilla. That was it. No other filling whatsoever. The nachos are a 4 the rest of the food is a-ok. Not bad...not great to deserve four stars but if you are in the RTP I am not certain you will get a good mix of Mexican food anyway. Had lunch at Tijuana Flats today and usually we have a good experience at this restaurant. Today however was different. I honestly don't understand why a restaurant asks for you to tip up front before you have even been given any service. I think this should be changed. So yes we did tip at the time of purchase but for what?? I ordered Dos Tacos and made it a meal by adding black beans. When they brought out our meal my tacos were swimming in the black beans that took up 3/4 of my plate. I had to ask for new taco shells. I was then told to order the beans on the side next time. Isn't this how they usually come? Anyway we never once were asked if we needed a refill on our drinks I had to go up front twice. I went here for lunch today and have been here several times before. It's typically a pretty good experience however today something happened that really bothered me. When I was placing my order at the cash register, the cashier started experiencing technical difficulties with the checkout system. We stood there for several minutes and she finally said "don't worry about it, we'll bring your food out shortly." I thought to myself "wow cool, what great customer experience: they acknowledged how slow the service was and rather than put me through it further, they comp-ed my lunch." I proceeded to go sit with my colleague (who already had her food at this point) and after a short time my food came out. I started eating and lunching with my colleague as one does when the cashier comes up to my table and interrupts my lunch to say "hey we fixed our system and you still owe us $6.48" LOL. Naturally I was pretty surprised but I'm not a thief so I provided payment and didn't say anything but when I reflected on it after I'm thinking about how they took a good customer service moment and turned it into a poor one. I'm sure Tijuana flats isn't hurting for my $6.48. By the look on her face, I believe her manager made her go ask for my money which is unfair to the cashier. At the end of the day it's not about having to pay, because obviously I was going to anyway, but it's the fact that my lunch got interrupted and I was given the impression I was being taken care of by the restaurant. This is very disappointing after attending a fun Elite event in Holly Springs TF and having a good impression of the company. What a bummer. I guess they only treat you nice if they're having an Elite event or if you're in Holly Springs? This is my favorite Mexican place in the area. I've tried many Mexican restaurants, I'd say close to ten at this point, and this is the only place that actually seasons their food. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food is... well, a lot. But not in a bad way. Lots of meat, cheese, and toppings. They describe it well. I can only ever eat one taco. The best way I can describe it is "indulgent." The tacos are delicious, though I prefer the megajuana tacos over the regular ones because I'd rather get full off of one stuffed taco than two sort of empty ones. The best thing at this restaurant, though, is the cookie dough flautas. Oh my goodness. I was so pleasantly surprised when I got these. They were not at all greasy like I expected them to be. Just lightly fried to a crisp with warm cookie dough inside. I can never eat a whole portion, but they save amazing in the fridge. I put them in an airtight container and re-warm them in an air fryer for 2-3 minutes. Overall, I have to say I love this place and would highly recommend. read more

The staff was quite pleasant and that is about all. The food was of very low quality. I can not recommend this restaurant when Moes, Chipotle, and Qdoba are all infinitely better quality. My partner had hair in her food, and the queso was little better than cheap stadium quality nacho cheese. This restaurant is less tasty than Taco Bell. It does have many hot sauces. But even these are not very tasty or quality. The inside is bright and happy but the food is sad. One year later and this place is probably the best place we've eaten. The staff knows us and our orders without us telling, they're incredibly polite and always take the time to ask us how our day is going and tell us about theirs. The food is fresh and fantastic, and they always adjust the orders to your liking. Very consistent with the other's I've gone to in Florida. 10,000 times better than say taco bell with good ingredients and the hot sauce bar is awesome. I was very pleased with our visit to this location. I went with my 2 year old son and I assume we made it before their rush because it was nice to see more families come in. So you could tell it was definitely family friendly. My son loved the small cup of queso and the applesauce was a nice option. I actually have a terrible dairy allergy which makes having Mexican food difficult some times but I mentioned my allergy and the staff said she would leave a note for the cooks to change their gloves for my order. They have a great variety of salsas, my favorite was the smack my ass jalapeño style. Being pregnant my baby belly loves it and had to get one of their small take away bottles.
