Dumplings and pancakes

Shanghai Style dumplings in a food court . Delicious and handmade by very nice people. Delicious and inexpensive. The fillings were all delicious. Waited for about 10 minutes after we ordered.

I think I'm a bit biased toward this stall. However, I didn't enjoy that meal very much. I ordered Goubuli bao, a spring onion pancake and a Wonton soup. Goubuli bao is a very famous dish and I've been looking forward to it for a long time. However, I was pretty disappointed with the flavour of their Goubuli baos. I am super picky about spring onion pancakes so theirs wasn't good enough for me, either. I admitted that the Wonton soup was good and impressive. The wontons were big and still tasty. I guessed their dumplings also had the same quality but I didn't order that. I may change my score if I try their dumplings(if I go back there in the future)

Authentic Shanghainese cuisine! The dumplings are all hand made and must be eaten with red vinegar! Yes, the family is a bit cranky, but it's kind of cultural. Take it with a smile and empathy that the curtness is actually them saying Welcome! The lady recognizes me by now, after many years of visits, doesn't hurt that I'm Shanghainese, but she always says 'How are you, it's been too long'! Support this small business, it's win-win BC the food is yummy! Pan fried dumplings are my go-to

Amongst the many food spots inside First Markham Place. I gave this place a try since I saw they had the black bean noodles. Unfortunately I really wasn't a big fan of the noodles. I wish it had more sauce as I felt even after thoroughly mixing it, there was not enough sauce. The noodles were average, wasn't bad but not necessarily something I would go out of my way to have again. However, I wouldn't be against trying out their other dishes.

Buyer beware. I was scammed today. I am Canadian born Chinese and to don't speak or able to read Chinese. I've ordered their combo which were 4 steams buns and congee. When I place my order I've spoken to the lady in English and told her I want combo 5 and pointed to their menus. She said "combo 5 " and placed my order. Finally when I picked up my order, I noticed there was one take out box in the bag. I asked her where is the congee and she immediately says "no congee " like a broken record. I've read the sign again and then I noticed congee that is written in Chinese is covered with tape and got lazy and didn't bother to tape congee in English wording. The way they display their menu are misleading and simply dishonest. Also owner should fix up their menu to avoid this from happening again.

Got the zhajiangmian (noodles with soybean paste & minced pork). There was just enough sauce & a good umami meaty taste.

The beef noodle did not look like the picture but it taste pretty good. I was not a big fan of the Xiao long bao, the outer layer was very thick, but the filling was decent.

Bought the beef noodle soup and beef pancakes, in my opinion, the noodles were more expensive than it should have been. Overall tastes pretty good.

Just like every family has their own versions of home made dumplings.. Tianjin Fine Food's dumplings versions might be a little different than the others places I been too... Tianjin Fine Food is a small family ran fast food dumpling place inside First Markham Place Food Court. Everything is made to order here, you can watch how they busily making all the dumplings from scratch. Leek and Pork Dumplings and Xiao Long Bao ($6.25 each) - Both of them has really heavy and doughy skin.. and a little chewy too - The fillings has a lot of seasonings... more on the salty side - a little more pricier than other places... but they are bigger in sizes... and are quite filling too! So if you want a more homey dumplings... you should give Tianjin Fine Food's dumpling a try... but if you like those dumplings that has thinner skin, you would not enjoy them at all!

The best dumplings that I've had in a while, you really gotta come here and try them! There were so many stores in the food court so it was hard to decide which store to eat from. However, this place had an amazing deal that I just couldn't turn away from: 16 Pork and Leek Dumplings for $8.50. Such a steal! They make it fresh to order so it was about a 5-10 minute wait. The dumplings were so delicious, juicy and savoury. There was a language barrier between us but they were pretty nice and tried to communicate. It helps to know exactly what you want from their menu before you order. I'll probably come back soon to try the panfried dumplings!

I ordered the beef soup noodle bowl. It was delicious! Fast service, took less than 10 mins to cook up for me. There was no line. Everything looked clean. It was perfect for lunch on a Sunday with my parents

Pan Fried Dumplings

Northern style dumpling shop located inside the First Markham Mall food court. This is pretty much our go to location whenever we feel like having dumplings. The secret in any dumplings in my opinion is the dough. It must be just the right thickness and just the right chew. The gluten in the dough really has to be worked in and they make it correctly here. The dumplings are made by hand so it has that rustic chew and texture that I love, unlike machine made ones. "No chew, no good!" is my motto for dumplings! Get them either boiled or pan fried as they are both delicious. They also make excellent Beef Wraps, Shanghai Dumplings, Fried Pork Buns, Leek Pancakes and other select Northern specialties. Selection is limited but I prefer it that way as they can concentrate on what they are good at. Ordering is a little difficult if you don't speak Mandarin but they understand Cantonese and limited English... worst case scenario just point to the pictures! Do give yourself a little bit of time as it takes about 10-15mins for the food to come out as they make them fresh. Overall great value for some great dumplings!

It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

He immediately insisted the portion was correct and rudely implied we just didn't want to pay for the lobster. Very disrespectful -- a stark contrast to the other servers, who were all polite. We've ordered this exact dish many times before and know what a proper portion looks like. Management should train staff to investigate complaints professionally instead of accusing loyal customers. The lid on my shredded potato salad wasn't on properly and the sauce leaked through my Fantuan bag. The food gets five stars. Sadly, the lid on my potato salad wasn't securely on the container. I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.
