We bought a wood burning stove here and not only did the guy who sold us parts give us the wrong parts, but the associates that worked with him tried to convince us they were right. And then, the discovered we did get the wrong parts.
This after we were sold the floor model which supposedly had all the parts. And the reason we got the floor model was because the guy, who I talk about more later in this post, who entered our purchase information into Thurman's computer had entered some date incorrectly and we weren't going to receive the stove until the next year or something like that.
The gal who fixed the delivery date (it would have arrived two weeks later still) ended up charging us some burning fee or other that she didn't explain and the guy before had not charged so that was upsetting to me, since she hadn't explained it (I found out about it by calling the a city permits rep).
Furthermore, we were on the fence about installing the stove ourselves so we asked for a quote from the guy I don't remember the name of, but I think anyone who's ever dealt with Thurman's and specifically with their wood-burning stove stuff would know.
He estimated some astronomical number while mumbling about what the various costs would be, which I recorded and then relayed back to my husband. My husband scoffed and had his friend help him install it and the cost was about half of the guy's quote. I should mention when the guy came to our house to do the estimate, he forgot to bring anything - and did the estimate (distances and so forth) by eye, more or less.
The one plus side about this guy is he's supposedly the only one who did a final install bit that any other guy in town or in the nearest town would not do, per a guy at the city office (where we had to get a permit to self-install).
By about the end of the week of use, the handle that opens the vent to the outside broke. After about the third week of use, the stove didn't seem to burn as hot and we nearly resorted to the heater 100% of the winter when we came back with a newborn in February of this year.
(We thought about going to Thurman's for their purportedly cheap prest logs last year, but decided against ever going there again due to this dishonest and disreputable experience.)
EDIT: I wanted to mention that there were two nice chaps that helped deliver the stove to the top of two flights of stairs at our house, though. I was very pregnant at that time and they helped tremendously by doing this. Still, they were like the good apples of an entirely spoiled bunch.. read more
