Thunderbird Home Away From Home: I quite enjoy spending time here after long days and nights getting up to mischief in the Greater Reno Area. Walking distance to the Western Village Casino, the Sparks Marina (complete with walking and bike trails), SCHEELS (Mom you don't need another one of those, stahp.), and the Nugget Casino, Home of the Rib Fest, is about a mile's walk. My bf usually handles the Check In part when we stay at timeshares, since he's the member. It works out for me because the whole video conference experience is peculiar. Patience is key. If it malfunctions enough you may find yourself snuggling a complimentary bottle of the finest red table wine. Score! Rustic in appearance, the furnishings in the rec center and lobby remind me of a comfy cabin that also has a popcorn machine. They've got a tv, games, books, rental movies, and magazines for the wait. Outside you'll find a pool and hot tub. The pool is on the smaller side and always seems to have floating balls of hair that I swear isn't all mine, but is still a relaxing experience on a hot summer day nonetheless. Not too far away is the massive BBQ area where they do complimentary burger n hot dog lunches on Sunday afternoons (Memorial Day through Labor Day/Rib Fest Weekend), a must if you're staying through the weekend at the Bird. The Condos, many of which were recently remodeled (the last time we stayed here, in July, there were new couches and carpet), are large and in charge, with multiple stories and bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a living room, dining area, and kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with appliances and implements, but I would caution you to bring your own pans. We ran into cruddy pans at another property, but not the Bird. They're just owned by the same folks. There's a cook top, oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, garbage disposal, and dishwasher. Likely I'm forgetting to list some stuff. They have a gym if you're in need, which is on the smol side but offers a few machines and weights to work on the swol. I fancy a walk around the Marina and a stumble home from the Casinos, personally. Here it comes. I know you were waiting for it: Thunderbird is Go. Have yourself an affordable good time! Personally, I really have enjoyed my time here and the people I've spent that time with. Blessed!

Update Aug.22. We were moved to an updated room which is much cleaner. The carpet is still stained but not dirty like the previous room we had. The appliances are all newer. As are the TVs. The TV in the master however has LCD damage that causes lines to go through it but at least it's a newer flat screen. The folks that work here are very friendly. The grounds are beautiful.

We traded our Marriott Hawaii timeshare into Interval and made some late moment reservation to this place as it was the only available place we could drive to. The parking lots are all beat up and broken. Homeless people living next door near an empty hotel. Our room is old and worn out. The dishwasher hangs loose out of the cabinet and the kitchen faucet is leaking. And they asked if we would sit in a timeshare presentation for $100. Towels are clean and thick. Plenty of hot water with the hot water unit in one of our closets which I don't mind but still weird. They do have decent dish ware and appliances except for the broken dishwasher. Roberta the concierge was nice and it's also a plus this place is gated. Now I just realize why I needed an antihistamine when I got here when all our clothes were covered with cat hair and I'm allergic to cats! Changing rooms today after 3 nights being miserable and hopefully there weren't any cats staying in the next room like this one. Down to 1 star. We were in Room 313 near all the construction going on outside in our building. We switched rooms to a newer room and it's night and day difference even as they are the same layout. Still mad they gave us a run down cat infested room to begin with when they could have given us this room to begin with. Up to 2 stars.

* For timeshare attendees: read my section below. * No frills place. Everything is dated but functional. * Tip: Bring quarters for laundry soaps or ping pong balls @ recreation room. Since there's no reception live person, no one can get you change! The weirdest thing- TV Agent Check in / Reception: ----------------------------------------------------- * Video TV screen "Reception". Checking in to the hotel is being done by a TV screen (see pic), with a live agent on the other side, who is supposedly "around the corner in the corporate office". * As weird as this may seem, I was told that they've been doing this for ~10 years to cut costs. * Again, as weird as this may seem, everything worked without issues @ check in or out. When the TV agent said , "activity sheet and your keys will print out at the printer your right" ... everything got printed and keys popped out of a machine without issues. The Decent/ Good: ------------------- * We were in a 2-bedroom townhouse. Though dated and simple, everything is clean and functional. * We asked for extra towels twice during our stay and housekeeping delivered towels rather quickly. * Nice convenient location, free Wifi, decent pool with a nice hot tub especially for the winter days! * Reception area has free DVD and free books that you can check out during your stay. * Decent recreation room with 1 pool table, 1 pong pong table, and 1 foosball. (being quarters to purchase ping pong balls) * Free laundry next to recreation room (byo soap, or buy for 4-quarters) The bad: ---------- * This is a timeshare resort owned by QM Resorts. When you check in, the "concierge" (Tammy) will try to get you to sign up for a timeshare session. In exchange, you will get ~$100 in tickets, dinner or cash. * Take note that Tammy has no interest in helping you with anything "concierge"... she's just here to sign you up for timeshare prez. * Our experience with the timeshare was not good. * We had initially purchased, only to review documents that same evening and found that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in ANY of our documents eluted to what we had actually purchased. (Red Flag 1) Once we got back to the unit with our "vacation binder", I THEN noticed that we were also not given a copy of what we had signed. (Red Flag 2) * When I had noticed this, I was not initially concerned as my sales agent (April) had indicated to me that she would: (1) call me at 11AM the next day to follow up on any questions (2) I texted her that same afternoon expressing my concerns, thinking that we could resolve the next day when she calls me... * Well, the next morning came and gone and I never received a reply. (Red Flag 3) Thinking to myself, if something smells fishy, it probably is: (1) this is the time that I will receive the best service, with the absence in replying and the failed promise to call, it will be a rough road ahead (2) all verbal communication were not written down in paper as they said things were (Red Flag 4) (3) discrepancies in what's in binder compared to what's been verbally communicated to me (Red Flag 5) (4) if I'm concerned enough to read through the binder, this must not be good (How manny Red Flags do I need?!?) * Long story short, we did cancel our purchase the next morning. (law requires a 5-day waiting period) * I can't really speak to how good QM Resort is as a timeshare or how good their trading power is. But I was told that with the purchase, you will not have any issues staying in the Marriotts or Ritz, worldwide, of your choice at the week & time that you want. No problem. - Hawaii? No problem! - Maui... just make sure you call 4 weeks+ ahead! - Easter week? July 4th week? No worries at all! *** Of course these were only verbally communicated and not written down as I had indicated earlier. Sound too good to be true? My advice is just be careful, do your homework, and make your own judgement. For me, greed got the better of me, but my senses kicked in later and I cancelled the next day. All things related to timeshare aside, overall, I thought the hotel was decent, clean and functional. I may stay again but will skip the timeshare next time.

1 Bedroom Living Room Area. Furniture is dated to put it nicely.

My family booked this resort off of Groupon. I wondered about the safety of the resort since they didn't have a live receptionist when we checked in. I thought maybe we arrived so late they only used video check in. Then I realized there are no staff on location other than the cleaning staff. All the furniture is dated but all in all it is a good place to stay short term. I would not necessarily classify it as a resort but it was nice for what we needed at the time.

Would never have stayed here had I read the reviews before booking a long term stay. Things started going wrong & breaking down from the first day! All attempts to get them repaired properly were either ignored or inadequately attended to. They give your unit free WiFi for the first few days then block it so you will be forced to "upgrade" for $5 per day. But they won't admit they do that! I spent hours with tech support over the phone to no avail. All of my 4 devices were limited in access unless I walked out the door & easily caught the WiFi signal! Beware this "free" WiFi scam. The whole resort is like a Hollywood set. At first glance everything appears sparkling clean & well maintained. It's anything but. Furniture is decrepit & decades past being junked. Old school tvs in bedrooms don't work nor remotes nor DVD players. It's a shame too because you get the impression the workers are trying their best (they're not) or just making excuses so you will overlook these issues. Many things are unusable including WiFi access inside your your unit. The resort is a seemingly appealing property with many concealed flaws. Disappointed is not strong enough word. Disgusted we spent so much money for something we could not fully enjoy.

I had dinner at Una Mas because they specialized in Mexican food. Overall the food and drinks were okay. The highlight of my stay was the Grand Sierra Spa! Although their steam room wasn't available, I was able to take advantage of their sauna, coed spa room and a massage. The ambiance was beautifully decorated and they offered complementary snacks and tea as well as one beverage with champagne or a mimosa as an option. When I got to my room and tried it on, it was immediately clear that it was completely mislabeled--it fit like a size Medium at best. I immediately went back down to the Gift Shop to request a simple size exchange for a XXL (which they had in stock). I was not looking for a refund or a return, just an accurate size for a garment that was defective in its manufacturing labels. The cashier, Jake, completely refused to help me, stating that "all sales are final" and pointing to a placard. Jake was crude, unhelpful, and showed absolutely zero customer service skills or common sense. Hiding behind a "final sale" policy when the store sold a mislabeled product is unacceptable. I know my size perfectly well, and this was not an XL. To be treated so poorly as a guest staying in the hotel over a simple size swap is a terrible look for this casino. Management needs to look into how Jake treats paying guests and review this ridiculous, unyielding policy for defective items. I will not be spending any more money here.

To start, the check-in process was far more difficult than it should have been. Despite notifying the hotel in advance (in writing, through their app) that we would be arriving early, one of our confirmed reservations was canceled. This created a cascade of inconvenience: one of our guests was left without proper accommodations for part of the stay and had to spend a significant amount of time working from the lobby. For a property operating at this level, that kind of breakdown in communication and inventory management is surprising. The front desk experience, specifically with Stephanie, was another challenge. The day before our scheduled checkout, she called asking why we were still in the room--seemingly unaware of our actual reservation dates. She called again later that same day with the same concern. While she did eventually apologize and acknowledged the mistake, the repeated interruptions had already created unnecessary friction. What was more concerning, however, was a lack of situational awareness. The same guest who had been displaced due to the reservation issue was later approached in the lobby--while dressed in business attire and actively on a call--and asked whether he was a guest of the hotel. Given the earlier issues, this came across as both disorganized and, frankly, dismissive of the inconvenience already caused. I want to be clear: these are fixable issues. With better internal communication, stronger training around guest management, and more attention to detail, this could be a very different experience. But as it stands, the front desk operations--particularly during check-in--fall short of what one would reasonably expect. For those considering a stay, I would recommend confirming all details multiple times and being prepared for some inconsistencies at arrival. And for management, this feels like a clear opportunity to invest in training and process improvements, particularly for guest-facing staff.

We got to choose between staying on the 3rd floor (spa/gym floor) or a higher floor, and we chose for the higher floor which had a decent view. The casino seemed older than others we been to, but it seemed the hotel portion was updated. There were several elevators we could use, and it was nice that it was a clear glass elevator so you could see out. We did not hang out at the casino, but it also seems a bit older. You can definitely smell the smoke in here. We only tried the Purple Parrot for dining and it was solid. There seemed to be a seafood restaurant and it smelled quite fishy in that area. They have an arcade on the second floor for kids. We ended up finding several machines that were broken so we got some free play out of it, which was fun. The arcade seems to be open 24/7 but redeeming rewards may be during limited hours. The spa was great! The gym area was also pretty good as well, many machines to use. They also have yoga mats to use, but my only critique is there is not much space to lay your yoga mat in without feeling like you're in someone's way. However, the gym was not very busy at all in the morning time when I went. In the gym, they had a water refill station, towels, and fruit offered. Remember to bring your hotel card because they will ask that it's scanned at the entrance. Service was friendly at the front desk at check in and check out. I pulled out $200 to play the slots and ended up walking away with over $1,200, so I definitely can't complain about that! My one con is the rewards program. I was disappointed to learn that spending at the resort doesn't earn tier credit the way it does at some other casino resorts. Being able to earn credit for hotel, dining, and other property spending is a great way for guests to move up tiers and gives you more incentive to keep your spending on property. Hopefully J Resort considers adding this or offering more multipliers in the future. Would I come back? Absolutely.
