This review is soley based on the service or lack of. Just arrived into Dublin and checked into my hotel and noticed this really cool illuminated restaurant which was packed with customers. Decided to sit at the very inviting bar, which had only a few customers, to have some drinks and food. The bartenders were busy but would not even make eye contact with me or engage in any conversation. I would have been fine with, "Hello, give me a few minutes and I will serve you." Nothing for ten minutes, finally I asked the host for a table thinking service may be better. He said, "About fifteen minutes". I said that I would wait in the bar except I cant get served. He replied that the bartender is busy. I did not even have the energy to request a manager. Well I gave it a shot and was disappointed since it really looked like an interesting eatery. Customer service is more important to me than the taste of the food or the presentation of the cocktail. The extra star rating is merely for the location and decor. We quickly left and had a great meal two doors down. read more

I love Dublin but one thing about it that is frustrating is that it's virtually impossible to find a restaurant that serves food past 9 pm. I'm not sure why the nighttime food prohibition exists but it needs to go away, especially when most full day bus tours don't deliver you back to Dublin before 8-830 pm. Because of this reason I say thank God for this place. It's not the best food you'll ever have but they're open and serving when most other restaurants are not. Serving traditional American-style fare, this place has the usual burgers, nachos, salads, mix drinks, and other items you might find at an American bar. After arriving at 930 pm, the staff immediately sat us and took our order. They were very welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed a mojito, Long Island iced tea, chicken strips, Caesar Salad, and the loaded nachos. Each dish was great, though, my favorite was the Caesar salad. The place has a neobiker atmosphere vibe with tons of seating. Although they do serve after 9pm, the kitchen does stop serving at 1030 pm. Enjoy. read more

Thunder Road Cafe was a fun experience in Dublin! The live music was great, as well as the holiday decorations throughout the restaurant. With the rainy & cold weather, the warm food was just what we needed. I ordered the chicken tenders & fries (the crispest chicken tenders ever - they were truly delicious) and my boyfriend got the steak sandwich. Went as they opened. There were about five of us. They had a unique way of asking for service with a lighted cylinder that you turned over to make red and they came to help. Wife and I had nachos that were not so good. Dad had American burger that was okay. Son had tenders that were okay. Atmosphere is cross between Hard Rock and planet Hollywood. Thunder Road Café is like a glorified Eddie Rocket's, or Captain America's kind of vibe. There's also lots of motorcycles and tiger print everywhere...I haven't the foggiest idea why. I'm not the biggest fan - I ate here a couple times and only thought it was ok. It has that Planet Hollywood/ Hard Rock Cafe feel, meaning that the restaurant is more than just food. You're being sold the whole American experience. This experience can be fun if you're in the right mood. In any case, it appeals to families, tourists and fussy eaters. It gets crowded here on the weekends and during the summer which adds to the atmosphere. If you aren't hungry, you can also come here for a cocktail. Dishonest. I would give it 3 stars for food and ambiance, but the staff is dishonest here. I wanted to try Jameson Coopers Croze, a high end Irish whiskey, so I ordered one neat. The waitress made a simple mistake and brought it on ice. I sent it back and instead of a fresh pour, I was brought the same glass from which the ice had been removed: watered down whiskey. Sent it back again, and this time I got straight up well whiskey, for which I was charged the price of Coopers Croze. As for the food, it was Mexican night, so I had the enchiladas. They tasted okay, but had the consistency of baby food. This place is best avoided. read more

A cheeky restaurant with a rock n' roll meets Harley Davidison theme. The restaurant is large and can accommodate large parties. It has a fairly decent sized bar area, too. The music inside is lively and lots of its patrons sing robustly to it while nibbling at their food. They have tons of screens that host a variety of sporting events and trivia information. It's very lively in here. My husband and I dropped in here for dessert on our last night in Dublin. We were not disappointed. I had the Banoffi which reminded me of a caramel topped banana cream pie. My husband had the Thunder Tower, a fruit, cream, and meringue delight. Add a spot of tea and the bill was barely 15 euros for a sweet time together. We were never rushed and our server was quite attentive. We enjoyed our brief visit. read more

I recently visited Thunder Road Cafe with the girls for a Birthday dinner. The atmosphere was great, the music is very loud so expect a hoarse throat in the morning. It's very well decorated, lots to look at. The staff are great; friendly and always smiling (which is hard to find!) The cocktails are AWESOME. Joodle Bug was my favourite. Delish. The states are chock full of restaurants themed on other nations. In theory, you can get a sense of what Australia is like, what France is like, even interpretations of what the tropics are like - you get the idea. So it's not surprising that one might find an American-themed restaurant elsewhere. What would such an establishment be like? Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet? Two out of four ain't bad - bangers are the same as hot dogs, while apple pie is prominently displayed on the list of dessert offerings. As for baseball, well, it has about the same standing that hurling does in the USA, while there may be a picture of a Chevy interspersed somewhere, I didn't see it. And of course you have to have tributes to other pieces of Americana - at least as interpreted by the show "Happy Days". Lots of cardboard cutouts of dudes with slick brown hair and their blonde girlfriends. Supposedly American trivia questions would appear in quick succession, and occasionally one would have everything right. Regrettably, there didn't seem to be any Bruce Springsteen references beyond the name. I'd say the quality of the food is something akin to a TGI Friday - yeah, it's adequate for bar food or for a dessert, but not a place you go for the dining experience. We found ourselves there after a mediocre dinner nearby, but were still craving dessert. I had the Thunder Tower, which consists of meringue and fruit. It was ok. Given its location right at Temple Bar, one could do worse if faced with the task of having a quick bite while not spending too much money. But one could also do better. read more

You know I want to dismiss it... on paper it has all the things I should hate. The loudness of the music makes it difficult to talk to people, its decorated with motorbikes, the food is tex mex, it popular with hen parties, they sound a klaxon whenever they are doing something that will embarrass people (which is every 10 mins), I've been there twice and both times a male stripper has entered the establishment and entertained hen parties! But I just can't be a hater. Yes the food is not very imaginative, but what it does, it does well. Service is pretty good, prices are reasonable. And while the dinner conversation may not be sparkling due to the constant shouting of "What?", the music might just have you dancing along while eating your dinner. You might even get sucked into the fun while your there... and find yourself laughing at the antics of a hen party... and thankful that none of your friends would ever make you dress up in a sailor suit if they were getting married (I ask this question when I interview people for the role of my friend). A word of warning, if you are of the female persuasion and its your birthday or hen, you may be "forced" to consume a phallic ice-cream from the lap of a waiter! Don't say I didn't warn you! Happy Monday everyone ! The weather is amazing and I can't wait to tell you what I did this weekend. Not that you're looking forward to it (maybe?) but I have discovered a spot that I like and... Yelp you go ! What is it ? Thunder... Like a thunder. The cafe is all about motorbikes, biking attitude, and speed. Thunder-Speed. Speed-Thunder. Road... What's the point of having a motorbike if you don't drive it on the road. The Thunder Road Cafe is very american looking with american road signs all over the place. Cafe... Fast food orientated, you can get pretty much order whatever you want for a reasonable price. What about the food ? I am personally not fond of fast food restaurants. Nevertheless, the Thunder Road Cafe offers quality food. I have been there three times now. I tried : sea food pasta, burger and... again the burger. You can ask for fries or wedges. The meal is huge, brilliant if you are super hungry ! I almost forgot to mention the milkshake - strawberry flavour is my favorite ;) What about the people ? Whenever I go, the waiters are very nice and they serve you fast. Plus, when they ask how I want my meat and I answer "dead" (meaning well done), they smile. That's professionalism !! I went here today to meet my boyfriend's family and I feel embarrassed about bringing them here. First of all the food look like they'd sourced it all from the tescos next door. My prawn salad was boring, plain and completely without any redeeming features. It was a three euro meal that they charged 13.95 for. Secondly they managed to give us diarrhoea. All members of the group who jad any of the Mississippi mudpie or the death my chocolate ended up on the bog several times for half and hour at a time. Clearly there were issues with how the ice cream was stored. Thirdly and most importantly: although the serving staff at about one o'clock were good the manager who spoke to me this evening when I rang to say the the cream was bad was less than helpful. Rather than taking my criticism on board she rather denied that there had ever been a problem with the food there. Some how I find that very hard to believe based on the aesthetics of the food. It is clear that no one wakes pride in their food there and I pity the wonderful floor staff. read more

The waiters are very friendly and their drink prices are better than most of the Temple Bar-area bars. We found ourselves in here a couple times while in Dublin for cheaper drinks! read more

Per recommendation from our hotel concierge, we had dinner at Thunder Road. What it reminded me of was the Hard Rock Cafe, which sits across the street. In fact, I'm not quite sure what the difference was, except that it was adorned with Motorcycles instead of rock-n-roll memorabilia. That aside, the food was very good. A little spendy, but then, so is the food at the Hard Rock. My brother and I shared the nacho and he got mushrooms (which he loved, but I did not eat because I thing fungus is disgusting). The nacho was good, but the cheese seemed more the processed kind. Disappointing a little, since the country is full of cows. However; we ate almost every bite (just not the few chips left on our platter that did not have any toppings on them). Our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean. While I don't care much about motorcycles, but brother does, so he thought the place was very cool. It's doubtful we'll be back, considering we live 4,500 miles away, but we did enjoy our dinner. read more

For me this is a bit of a hit or miss restaurant. I know it's a great place for kids parties and families but I find it a wee bit tacky. The decor is fine, with the hanging motorbikes and Indian man at the front door but these are so 90's. I remember this restaurant opening over 20 years ago and it was the best thing since sliced bread. It's likely the layout is still the same? However the food is quite nice, in that portion sizes are big, there's a good selection of dishes and I ordered a pasta with chorizo dish and it was lovely. I absolutely adore this place. Granted - I've never had the food, and stuck solely to the bar - but it was still love at first drink. The bartenders are extremely friendly and make excellent drinks. They have this special on for the summer which is 1 cocktail for 4.95 - that's the cheapest it gets in Temple Bar (besides Th/Fri/Sat nights at Sinnotts with 2 for 5 cocktails). Anyway! This American themed restaurant is a great place to grab some food after a day walking around Dublin. The food looks great! I had the sizzling duck, and it was well worth it. The staff is friendly as well. As others pointed out, it's not a place for fancy dining, and the music is not quite the rock and roll you'd expect, with a restaurant dressed up like this.
