During my university days, Red Lobster people viewed as high-end seafood dining. Lines were always…read morelong. Wait times ranged from 40 minutes to an hour. The food was always worth the long lines and the wait. I remember the consistency in flavour right up through the late 90's, and then it appeared as though Red Lobster tapered off. It was as if the restaurant had suddenly experienced hard times and shut their doors. Fast forward to now, you can walk in and get a seat without waiting. Now I understand. The location in Matteson is close to my home, so I will pop in on occasion when I do not want to cook at home. The restaurant is never fully empty. Unlike days long ago when large parties occupied tables, that would be no problem now. The restaurant can accommodate multiple large parties at any given time. I tend to opt for fish and chips when I go. There are times when I will switch up and order salmon or any stuffed white fish along with vegetable sides. I would not say that the flavour has fallen off. However, there is something missing that I cannot put my finger on. I know that since the late 80's when I went to Red Lobster most, I had not yet broadened my palate, so I think that cooking and eating Caribbean and West African food primarily have wired my palate for a different set of spices that are not in the recipes at Red Lobster. This is not a bad thing, but it is just that my appetite is more satisfied than wowed. Service is always good at this location. That may be the case because the crowds are so thin that the servers do not come to the table agitated when they take my orders. I usually sit in the bar area. However, because the dining area tends to be mostly empty, the bar area closes so that diners can fill up the seats in the main dining area if possible. Red Lobster may be a cautionary tale of all good things eventually ending. This one in Matteson is holding on, though.

Me and my son went to Red Lobster for the Lobster Fest. I ordered a lobster tail sirloin steak with…read morebaked potato & rice. My son had chicken fingers, fries & apple juice. I asked for the steak to be medium rare, not too pink inside. I would say around 3:40ish our food arrived. My steak was too pink for me. So, I asked for it to be cooked well done. The waitress said to me "You asked for it medium rare". "I know I asked for it medium rare but, can you cook it well done?" "If it's cooked well done. There will be no pink inside & you asked for medium rare". Taken aback. I said "I know i will not have any pink. I just want the steak well done". She got a manager. The manager too replied in the same condescending manner "If it's cooked well done. Then it won't be medium rare. There will be no pink inside & you asked for medium rare". "I understand. I do not understand what the problem is! All I want is the steak cook well done. Forget about the pink. Why can't you just cook the steak well done. What is the problem"? Again, you asked for medium rare & it has pink inside. Cooking it well done. Leaves no pink. Sure, I lost it. "Why are you acting as if I do not understand? Why can't the steak be cooked well done?" The manager wanted to keep arguing with me. I am now very pissed off. Lost for words. Here I am me and my son are out enjoying our day and this is what we receive!!!! Mistreatment. Over a steak that could have just been taken back to the kitchen and cooked well done!!!!!!!! I just want to get out of there. So, I started yelling. At this point the manager and waitress condescending attitude (waitress smiling as if I am getting what I deserved) push me over the edge. I was then told to leave. I would only be paying for my sons' meal. Here you want to charge me for my son meal and he only ate two fries. Plate still full of food. My food sitting on the table barely touched. I mean the table full of food. At the register. I asked the manager for his name and number to Corporate. While waiting for the price of my sons' meal. I am still venting too myself. How I cannot understand what the issue was. I did not ask for anything in place of the steak. I just wanted my steak cooked well done. I no longer wanted it medium rare, and I am being treated as if I am stupid. OF COURSE I AM UPSET!!!! What was the issue?!?!?!?!?!!! Times are this hard that an establishment is telling the customer what they order and implying "Since you order this. I am going to educate you on what a steak or anything looks like. How it's cooked and you should not be asking for anything differently". This is perspective on the situation. With the manager & waitress condescending attitude and the waitress smiling as if "Yeah tell her". Business this BAD should GO OUT OF BUSINESS. I am very disappointed with the whole outcome and all I wanted was for the steak to be cooked well done. To be kicked out of a restaurant and hear my son say, "He is a mean man". For the manager not to give me his name. Tell me I am being disruptive. Point to the bar area. That is completely empty!!!! No one is the area of the front door. Educating me what medium rare and well done is. As if I was just born yesterday. Is out Outrageous. I have never been treated as if I was so stupid in my is an understatement and I have had my share of stupidity from others!!! This experience is over the top!!!! Then the manager had a nerve to lie and say "I tried to give you another steak". What another medium rare stake (he never tried to replace my steak. It was me asking him to just put it back on the grill or however you cook it. I was the one trying to deescalate the situation. Not the manager or waitress)????? I will never return to this location again. Hell, I might never return to another Red Lobster EVER after today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have liked a sincere apology, but it is clear to see that a business and employees of that business could care less about morals. I will blast you on every social media post.

They dont have fountain pop, definitely a negative. The chicken was slightly over cooked but it was tasty, I just wish they had more choices to put on the sandwich. The choice was mild or hot sauce and pickles. The load you up with fries which is also a good thing. I would come back, I want to try the chicken pieces. My advice to the owners, buy a meat thermometer so the chicken is juicy and invest in fountain pop. Cans are a RIP off to your customers and they know it.

"A minute ago you said I hadn't ordered a large catfish dinner and now you said you asked me if I wanted two of them." A cook came from the back and said he'd drop the catfish and it would be a 20 minute wait. "Are you going to replace the two combo meals? Waiting another 20 minutes means the other two meals will be cold be the time I get home." We can't do that" was their response. Never spending a F'n fine in this place ever again.

When I was leaving I stopped and spoke with the owner to suggest they have the signage out and visible for the customers to see not refunds or exchanges if not satisfied , he was very rude not apologizing he stated What should I do just takes loss because you didn't like your order and I stated all other regular restaurants do he stated this is a regular restaurant and besides it's the law and I know because I'm a lawyer and should know and we have the best Shrimp in Chicago but my complaint wasn't regarding the Shrimp it was the Lobster Roll the Customer Service from the Owner and his rudeness is why I will never go there again even if you have good food doesn't give you the right to treat frequent customers in such a way I will not be returning and I will let all my family as Well as my Church family not to come back as I'm African American and he seems to have an issue with treating us with respect as I have saw other reviews by other African American's stating the same. For my meal I went with the Sirloin & Shrimp, requesting my steak medium-well. When it came it was more well than medium, but it was still enjoyable. The shrimp was tasty and very nicely cooked. The atmosphere is nice. The food is okay. The service... she was OVERWHELMED. And she made that very known. I don't blame her. But she shoulda known and maybe called off if she thought she couldn't handle it. But definitely management should've put more servers "on" for that WHOLE DAY. We were there for longer than TWO hours. TWO HOURS. Most of that time WAITING on service. The bread and pesto that comes complementary... delicious. We also ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp. Also pretty good. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. The bass was seasoned and made pretty great. The asparagus that came with it also very good. I ordered the Au Gratin Potatoes. This portion is shareable and incredibly cheesy. My husband ordered the Filet and Lobster Ravioli. The asparagus. Good. The Ravioli. Good. The steak came over done. They did redo it AND his whole meal. Which was so nice. But that took TIME. Again. We were there TWO hours. We also added lobster tails to each meal. This would've been better if I had eaten it first when it was still hot but that's on me. The women's bathroom was in need of much attention. Gross. There is a lot for parking. Would I go back? Sure. If I'm not paying. The food is decent. The service is LACKING. But perhaps it would be better on a different day... service is EVERYTHING to me. I've stated this on multiple reviews. I'm disappointed. I wanted to love it. I will add, the table next to us said that Bone Fish was their fave. So MAYBE give it a try...

Stoney Point Grill 2031 Ridge Road…read moreHomewood, IL 60430 To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my deep disappointment and sadness over the unacceptable customer service experience we received at Stoney Point Grill on April 13th, 2025, during my father's Celebration of Life event. When we initially booked the space, we were told the event would need to end by 8:00 PM. However, after further discussion, your general manager confirmed that we would be allowed to use the space until 10:00 PM. That agreement was critical to us, as we were honoring my father's request to "have a party, not a funeral," as he had always said. On the day of the event, upon our arrival, a woman I believe to be the front-of-house manager or assistant manager, informed us -- in a surprisingly curt and unfriendly manner -- that our time ended at 8:00 PM. Both my daughter and I explained that the general manager had approved a 10:00 PM end time. She walked away without a word and returned with a man, who I believe to be the general manager, who did confirm we could stay until 10:00 PM. However, it was clear that the woman was unhappy with his decision. Despite this confirmation, at exactly 8:00 PM, she and other staff began dismantling tables and decorations, disrupting the event in a way that was incredibly disrespectful and emotionally distressing. This was not just any gathering -- it was a final celebration of a man deeply loved and mourned. The careless removal of decorations and mishandling of taped photographs caused damage to irreplaceable memories. Most devastating of all, during the confusion, my iPad -- which held my father's last videos, messages, and moments -- went missing. No one can truly understand the pain I have endured -- from fighting to keep my father alive, to making the heartbreaking decision to let him go, and finally, trying to honor his wishes through this event. Your staff's actions not only disrespected our family but tarnished what was meant to be a joyful remembrance of his life. The emotional cost is immeasurable, and the personal items lost and damaged can never be replaced. I paid over $1700 for the disrespect. It has taken me time to write this letter because the pain has been overwhelming. But I felt it necessary for you to understand the gravity of what happened and the irreversible impact your team's behavior had on a grieving family trying to find peace. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, and that future guests -- especially those coming to your establishment for deeply personal events -- are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Sincerely,

A couple people I know had been Red Star before and were less than enthusiastic about their experiences. One said the drinks weren't good, and another said it was "ratchet." She also said the service was terrible. They both said they visited once and never returned. Despite what others said, we decided to keep an open mind. We arrived after 5 pm, and the hostess greeted us warmly. We found our party easily in the rear of the establishment and were greeted by a tall, handsome gentleman who was doubling as a waiter and bartender. The space is large and cozy... the vibe is lively yet chill and inviting. There were a lot of regulars there, and the staff was very friendly with them. A little too friendly, whereas many of them were too busy socializing to be concerned about the patrons. Our waiter took our drink order and then came back to take our food order. After that he never checked on us. I watched as he hugged other customers while laughing and talking all night. I ordered the catfish nuggets and wanted some hot sauce but could never flag anyone down to ask for it. So, I just went without it. There also weren't enough napkins in the area where I sat, and I had to flag the waiter down to have the water carafe refilled. There appeared to be a manager there as well, wearing a suit coat and Jordans. He kinda reminded me of Daymond John from Shark Tank. He appeared to be helping out at the bar, but he also socialized with regular customers, so it's obvious the the restaurant culture is fostered from the top down. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but when the clientele is neglected, the business suffers. Poor customer service is what can stop someone from being a repeat customer. It's fine to be social, but the customers should always come first. The catfish nuggets and chicken wings were decent. The skin was crispy and flavorful, but the meat itself was bland. The food was edible, but it's certainly not spectacular. Go for the vibes, not the food. The drinks were also just okay. I had a couple of frozen margaritas that were much too sweet. My sister had the Froze, which was also very sweet. Honestly, the drinks tasted like juice. They weren't very strong either. The bartender clearly isn't giving out generous pours of alcohol. One of my sister's coworkers picked up the entire tab for everyone so I don't even know how much the bill cost. She's a regular customer and loves the restaurant. All of us celebrating there was her idea. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. They have multiple televisions if you want to watch a game & there are also slot machines in the front of the restaurant. The bathroom was well-kept and clean too. I'd return to Red Star because of the vibes... not necessarily for the food or drinks. I didn't think the environment was ratchet at all. There was a DJ spinning all night, and the music was a bit too loud, but other than that it was fine. The music is so loud that you can't hear the person next to you. I had never met my sister's coworkers and couldn't really get to know them because we could barely hear each other. The staff should definitely reconsider the volume level as it relates to the music. It's a restaurant, not a club. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, though. People were simply out enjoying themselves. There was no negativity or uncouth behavior.
