Don't get me wrong, the food here is good for the most part, but the customer experience is another story. I've had experiences that felt unwelcoming and, honestly, racially uncomfortable. The looks you get from some customers can make you feel out of place, and even when you're standing there waiting, no one seems to acknowledge you or ask if you need help. Even when I'm just picking up food, I find myself dreading walking through the door because of the atmosphere. It's hard to explain, but the energy feels uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Fun fact: I stumbled upon Lassen's shortly after moving to Illinois a few years ago and instantly fell in love. I still remember those bacon wrapped dates... absolute heaven. Fast forward to today, I finally tracked the place down again and stopped in for lunch. Parking is a little tight (even on a weekday), but once you're inside, the design and nice ambiance make up for it. I grabbed a seat on the patio - fair warning, there were flies, but nothing a quick wave can't handle. They even have a sign noting that if bugs land in your food, they can't replace it, which feels beyond fair. For lunch, I ordered the Reuben egg rolls (phenomenal - especially with that dipping sauce), curly fries with ranch, and the pesto sausage pizza. Every bite was perfection. The pizza tasted wood fired, with a crust that was crisp yet soft in every bite, and the perfect balance of pesto, cheese, and sausage. Our server was so kind and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I'm beyond happy I rediscovered this gem and I can't wait to come back! read more

Good food with a nice patio area for seating. My friends and I stopped in on a Sunday for dinner. The weather was nice so we sat outside. There were 5 of us so we got a variety of different apps, entrees and drinks. Service was good although a little slow. It seemed like they had one waitress working a fully seated patio. Help did come later on and was much appreciated. The food was served in a reasonable time and everyone enjoyed their meal. I myself had the roasted sweet potato salad and a single chicken taco. I enjoyed the salad but disliked the nuts. They were spicy and I wasn't a fan. I complimented the meal with a blueberry cider and it was refreshing. Note: Outside has a lot of bees and flies. They weren't really that bothersome until we got our food. It's nature so obviously you can't fix it but just something do keep in mind if you do decide to dine on their patio. They even have a sign on the door that basically says dine at your own risk. No food or drink will be replaced because of bugs. read more

These brisket egg rolls consistently slap (unmatched, delicious). They smoke brisket like their life depends on it. Today's batch isn't great. I think someone added cheese to them. I don't think there's been cheese on any of my previous orders. If it was it was a different cheese or blended better. There's also usually a very Smokey flavor from the brisket in every bite. This is my weekly spot at this point and so happy it's in my neighborhood. I feel like I'm now known there as the girl who comes alone with a book and Orders an espresso martini. The food is always so good, fresh and of high quality. I always try something new and everything hits. I love the Cocktail list the OG bartender (Mike I believe is his name) put together because it's so hard to find a decent espresso martini and old fashion around here and his keep me content. I honestly would give this a 5 star if I could, the ONLY reason I didn't is because parking. I come here around the time they open just to avoid having to park across the street or down the block. There's not many parking spots behind their building so those fill up QUICK. In this current snowy weather I refuse to park far, so I get there at the top of the day to avoid it. It doesn't look too big from the first floor, but there's a full basement floor that has a lot more tables, full bar, TVs, and may even be considered the main seating area, space-wise. They have a pretty good craft beer list, several styles and breweries represented. For food, me and my friend split a baked pretzel, which comes as 2 medium sized pretzels, so ideal for splitting between 2 people, and then I got the miso grilled cheese sandwich, which is definitely a cut above your standard grilled cheese, and had a nice honey glaze and some good high quality cheese used. Server was nice, and service fast, in fact the main courses came out before the app. They have a small parking lot in back, which may fill up, but there's easy street parking nearby. Lassen's has been consistently excellent every time we go. The old fashioned was on point and there is a large variety of craft beer. I had a rotating burger special which was the Poblano PuB Smash Burger with Hot Fries. I loved both!! The burger was cooked perfect and had cheese, peppers, and cream cheese amongst a few other items I can't remember. The fries had a little kick to them which I loved. I tried something new this time, the poblano topper smash burger and I kid you not it was at least 3 portions I could not finish it in 2 days. I got mine with a side of the onion rings and for $4 the portions were fantastic! My espresso martini was poured heavy and also, WAS FABULOUS! The burger tasted just as good day 2, and the mango habenaro sauce on his shrimp basket was good sized and what the chef used was not that spicy but had really good building heat and it wasnt too much it had enough sweetness to make it worth it! Great food and great service. I got the sweet potato salad and added grilled shrimp to it as well as some white cheddar nuggets as my appetizer which were delicious. My friends got the aperol spritz and an old-fashioned and loved their drinks. The parking lot was packed so we had to park by the houses right around the corner. Parking feels up really quick. We all enjoyed our food and I ended up having leftovers of the salad, which was a very good healthy portion. I thought that we would have to wait for seating, but we were able to get seated pretty quickly they have outdoor seating as well as indoor, but we sat inside due to the weather. Lassens is a good place. cool atmosphere great food. Im a frequent person there with my partner, only negatives that stick out is the customer service relationship can be better. Cool people but after 20 visits and ordering the same food, every-time still feels like a 1st time like isn't any relationship built. They treat you like anybody instead of a loyal customer which can leave bad taste. Their main menu has been down for almost a month now after the storm. Second time to this location. First time was before the Pandemic. On this occasion my father-in-law recommended this sportsbar. For drinks they have a variety of beer. We got peanut butter stout, blood orange cider and espresso martini. Drinks were good. Atmosphere of the sportsbar was lively. We sat in the enclosed patio area. It was nippy in the patio even with heaters so if you sit there, avoid sitting near the street. For food, I got the signature grilled chicken sandwich. It was delicious. I ate half there and half at home. I would go back for this sandwich. My husband enjoyed his Chicago Hot dog and my father-in-law enjoyed his fried chicken sandwich. read more

I've lived in Homewood for over 10 years and have previosuly enjoyed stopping in Lassen's to grab food and drinks. Over the last year or so, my experiences have not been very pleasant, especially since the change in magaement, more specific adding Rachel as a manager. The food quality is not the same, the staff is not pleasant anymore and Rachel never tries to help when there is a issue with your food. Her staple reponse is" We are a small establishment so as a result we can't remake your order or fix this, but I can give you some sauce". Really? You would think a logical or better trained manager would work to keep their repeat customers as a "small establishment' rather than running them away. Then I went the other day to order breaded wings as I always have for years, only to be told we don't offer breaded wings anymore, just naked. So I ordered that because I only went for the wings, then I get my order and the wings taste like boiled death!! And the level of cleanliness has went downhill, it smells unclen. I will never support this establishment again and it you are looking for good food and service, this is def not it anymore. read more

Heard great things about this place as another group from an event we went to came here as well. We unfortunately had pretty bad service as we waited around 10-15 minutes to order and 15 minutes to get our check. The other group (also had more people than us) told us they got served right away (also seated on the other side of place) and left right when we were almost done with our food. It also was kind of crazy how the runners/front ladies instantly took our plates when we were done while our waitress was MIA half the time. Felt bad since she seemed very nice, but was never there for a while whenever we needed her. They were out of the brisket egg rolls which sounded sooo good so we got the hangover fries instead. They were delicious! Loved how all the cheese and ingredients blended together. Very yummy and there were no crumbs left. I mainly was super disappointed about the burger I received. I got the Summer Smash since it sounded super good but it was one of the driest burgers I've ever eaten. (I did take a very nice photo of it though) The patties were extremely dry and it was actually painful to eat. We were walking outside all day in the 90+ degree weather so a super dry burger was killing me. I put ketchup on it later so it wouldn't be as dry but it was not saving this disaster. My boyfriend's burger was pretty good and also had some sauce on it. And my friend got the Blackhawk burger and really enjoyed it as well. I think it is mainly since the Summer Smash burger patty was super overcooked and the lack of sauce made it so bad. I would definitely try the Blackhawk instead if I come here again. The only cons would be the parking lot is teeny tiny, hard to find parking or just even look for a spot when its busy. This place is basic as of now. It used to be a great place to chill and watch a few football & basketball games.

It was Friday evening around 5:00 pm and when we arrived the first floor was packed. We were immediately escorted to the lower level which was huge and it also had a full bar, casino machines, several flat screen TVs which were zeroed in on the sports channel. The hostess was very friendly and the place had a real cool laid back relaxed vibe. We were a party of three we ordered their habanero wings, Parmesan and garlic Wings and their classic burger. They had so many options for what you wanted in terms of the wings you could have boneless or bone in and they had a gazillion flavor options which was great. My burger was delicious and juicy. I asked for medium well and the temperature cook was spot on. They have a huge selection of beers. We ordered two alcoholic drinks they were solid. The water and pop came to our table in these cute mason jars. The wait staff was extremely attentive and overall the experience was great. What was tricky was the parking they have a small parking lot in the back of the building which fills up pretty quickly so be prepared to park and walk depending on when you arrive. The food was pretty good and three people ate and drank for under 60 bucks!!! I will return to try some of their other menu items stay tuned for an update. read more

Visited Lassen's last night to meet up with a friend for dinner as he wanted a place with an outdoor patio to dine. The patio was great and fit the bill: tables were spread out, and while enclosed due to weather it still felt ventilated. We ordered a variety of menu items to try including: fried pickles, pretzel sticks, curly fries, wings (Parmesan garlic for me, honey mustard for him) and an Italian beef sandwich. My favorites were the pickles and curly fries. I'm not big on pretzel sticks but my partner devoured them. The wings were a bit disappointing to me, I guess their wings are buffalo based? I ordered Parmesan garlic and legit thought they'd given me the spicy garlic instead until our waiter told me they were buffalo based wings, he brought more Parmesan out to counteract it, but I'm just not a fan. The Italian beef was cool, but my friend has a soy allergy and there is soy cooked in it somewhere. Overall, the food was okay, starters were better than the mains in my opinion. The service was the best part, Samuel was phenomenal! Note: the patio closes when the kitchen does, so we were being a bit rushed because we didn't know patio closed hours earlier than the actual bar. read more
