If I could give zero stars, I would. I've never been more unsatisfied with a dog grooming place in my life. I took my dog to Throw Me a Bone for a "specialty cut" that cost over $200, and what I got was a complete joke of a service--actually, it was worse than a joke, it was negligent. I dropped my dog off and was told the grooming would take a while, so I left. I came back an hour and a half later, only to find out they hadn't even touched him. My dog had been just sitting there the entire time, and the groomer? He was literally in the back sitting on his phone, not doing a thing. Then, clearly panicked that I showed up, he rushed to wash, cut, and groom my dog in less than 30 minutes. And the result was exactly what you'd expect from a rushed, sloppy job: my dog had THREE cuts on his skin. The groomer didn't say a word, didn't apologize, didn't even acknowledge what he'd done. Just handed my dog over like nothing happened. The "cut" itself looked uneven, patchy, and completely unprofessional. Honestly, it looked like someone with no training did it. I'm part of a large dog community and group here in the city, and you can bet I'll be posting about this experience and recommending that everyone stay far away from this place. They are lazy, unprofessional, sloppy, and they clearly don't care about the animals they're trusted to take care of. This place is all branding and zero quality. Our dog has some neurological issues, which can make training a bit more complex -- but Michelle handled it with incredible patience, care, and expertise. She tailored every session to fit our dog's unique needs, using gentle, positive techniques that made a real difference. I thought my specific walker was good (very nice and clearly likes dogs) but I found Adam to be incredibly difficult to deal with - rude, if I am being honest. I would say you should use their service because it is efficient and the walkers are good - but there are so many other dog walking companies in the city that are run by much nicer people. I only had the pleasure of using Throw Me A Bone for one week, but they were amazing. The owner, Adam, was amazing. Our walker, Diana, was also wonderful. They are a seriously professional and organized company. After each walk, Diana would send us a little summary of how the visit went, in addition to photos of our pup. I found Throw Me a Bone through the Oval Concierge at Stuyvesant Town. I was going to be out of town for a couple of days over the weekend so made a 4 day booking. I was very pleased with the daily updates, pictures of Roxy (my pup), as well as the household courtesy of cleanliness and feeding (wet food & fresh water). I even had a last-minute booking I was nervous was too short of notice, but Adam and his team stepped right up and accepted the booking, that flexibility was very much appreciated. I'm very happy with Throw Me a Bone and have already recommended them to a couple of friends that have upcoming vacations and will need dog walking services. I'd like to commend Adam & Throw Me A Bone for coming through for us on short notice. One day from leaving we realized we had no one to look in on our cat Cleo, who is known to get lonely. Mike and team are incredibly consistent and considerate. We have used them for three years and to my knowledge they have not missed a single appointment. All of the sitters care for our cat and send us pictures every time! They also try to keep consistency so that your animals are not scared. Mike has also personally introduced new sitters to our cat. There have been a couple hiccups (key stuck in door, booking before they had their online system) but when you use someone a hundred times and they show up each one, that's really all that matters. We've been using the new Long Island City TMAB location for several weeks now and we love them! We have a 6 mo mini goldendoodle, and at first we had walkers come to our apartment to take her for a couple walks a day. We received a map of where they walked, a report of pees & poops, and photos after EVERY walk. Then once our pop was vaccinated, we took her to the doggy daycare and she LOVES it! She comes home tired every night, and she basically runs to daycare in the AM. We love that there is a camera so we can check in on her during the day, and we receive the same reports from day care as the walks. A great example of the amazing customer service was when our pup was recently spayed, so we had her stay at home and do daily walks. One day, the walker came over and noticed she had almost removed her cone and gotten to her stitches, and the walker contacted us immediately and discussed an action plan. The daily communication log, which includes photos, keeps me connected and makes me feel like a good dog mom - always knowing how my babies are doing. Love this company! Been a loyal customer for many years (not sure why it took so long for me to write a review). Only time I ever stopped was when I moved so close to my school that I could walk my dog during lunch but as soon as I was unable to do that I went right back! The company is great with my dog Sadie (they started with her when she was just a pup). The owners are wonderful at answering any questions I have had over the years. The walkers are very sweet and polite. They send daily pics of your pup being walked, change the water bowl daily and keep me updated on any issues that may arise (like my sneaky little one somehow getting into my garbage-the walker let me know and even cleaned it up for me). My friend recommended Throw Me a Bone when I needed a dog walker. They have walked my dog nearly every weekday for the past two years. Very trustworthy with the key to my apartment! They are also very reliable and easy to email/text/call if your plans change at the last minute. I liked that they were flexible and could often squeeze in a walk on short notice. When we adopted our beagle, he came from a severe situation and was very nervous and scared. We needed a dog walker and a fellow dog owner recommended Throw Me a Bone, 3 years later we are still using their services and couldn't be happier. Mike and Rory came to meet Buddy the first day to help him get comfortable with them. Rory has been an awesome walker with Mike helping out from time to time. We have been using TMAB for almost four years now and have had nothing but great things to say about the service. Adam has done a great job finding walkers that love dogs. He also has walked our dog multiple times himself and knows his behavior and mannerisms so he can match him with the perfect walker and walking pair. Great service! I've used them for years, maybe since 2011/2012 and they have been consistent and reliable. Adam and Mike are responsive business owners and always do the right thing by the client. I trust them entirely to handle any issues that might come up with my dog and more importantly, I know that they would tell me if there were any issues. Throw Me a Bone is a true lifesaver! Last minute, we needed someone we could trust to take care of our pup for two days during our wedding events. I have been using TMAB for almost a year and they really are the best! Adam and Sara are both very responsive, and always eager to help. I have a dog with special needs - she was abused and is blind out of one eye, she is also very timid and doesn't know how to defend herself. Both walkers that we have been matched with are very understanding of her personality and very caring. For the first time in the 8 years that I have had her, I feel totally relaxed about the care that she is getting. A big part of that is the detailed log you get after every walk, and the pictures too! The TMAB website is also a huge advantage to using this company. They make it incredibly easy to schedule, edit, and cancel appointments. If they have any questions about your request, they reach out to you quickly. My husband and I spontaneously adopted our dog Abby when she was just 8 weeks old. Adam, Michael and the Throw Me a Bone team were able to accommodate us immediately for daily walks. Abby's walkers are true dog lovers and experts, helping us with crate training, separation anxiety and getting Abby on a daily schedule. Each walker has been punctual and professional. The entire booking system is handled seamlessly online. This is a wonderful company. I used their cat sitting services while I was on vacation. Each time the cat sitter went to my apartment, she posted a journal entry detailing what the cats were doing, how they behaved, cute anecdotes, etc., and she posted multiple photos of the cats (walking around, stretching, sleeping, playing, etc.). It was very nice to get those little updates while on vacation and gave me peace of mind that the kitties were being fed, watered, and given attention in my absence. read more

I used this service several times (like 5) over a 1.5 year timespan. Initially I thought it was great until you get around a holiday period (basically the time of year when you actually need reliable service). I have explained to one of the co-founders that their reservation system is poor in that it will let you book an appointment EVEN if they have no availability. And then you get an e-mail follow-up hours later from someone saying that your service request cannot be fulfilled. Furthermore, depending on the type of pet you have it may not matter; so for example a dog sitting would require a specific time required to walk the dog etc. If you have a cat, or another type of pet a specific time is not needed; they have zero functionality for that. So all you get is a robotic response like "we can't fulfill your request" despite initially allowing you to book it on their reservation system. One of the co-founders is totally complacent and rude. I'm sure they have some happy clients (good luck if you're one of them), but I found them to be a generally sub-par service with pathetic customer service. To be clear, the time when I was actually able to have someone come to my apartment and take care of my pets, the people they had generally were very good (only once did they send someone who couldn't follow basic instructions about keeping the water filled up in a pet fountain). My issue is more w/ lax customer service and sort of an aloof attitude to improving their own service. Needles to say, I found better people using thumbtack; I suggest you do the same. read more
