Would not recommend at all. First off, the way to book an appointment has no professionalism: went in to the location and asked the gal sitting in the front room for an appointment. She asked "which type" and when I answered massage she seemed disinterested and just told me to book online. This is because, as I later found out during my appt, they actually have no receptionist-- the second time I came back, for what was my actual legitimate appointment, the door was locked and again no one was there to onboard me. I had to figure out a way to come through the side door walking through another business. So I'm sitting in the waiting room for ten minutes, and there is no bell to ring notifying anyone that I'm here at the front, just waiting for someone. There is only a clipboard with paperwork for the guest to fill out. Is this place closed? Why the eff would the front door of the business you booked an appointment with be locked? I literally have an appointment! So I'm sitting there for ages, worried because my massage time is getting eaten into; I've already filled out the questions left on the chair.
A girl comes out of the back room with a hot mug of tea in her hand. She seems very relaxed and unbothered, yet I'm flustered because I've been sitting here for 15 minutes wondering WTF is going on. She says hi and I am told I am late for my appointment. My appointment was a full hour before, at 2pm, I showed up at five til 3. This is completely new information to me, I booked online and somehow it wasn't for the time I thought I booked. But conveniently for them, you pay in advance, and conveniently for them, there is no way to call the business and confirm a booking, nor is there anyone calling you! Oh but it gets better---I booked an hour and a half appointment, therefore I still had half an hour left that I paid for, but the massage person just told me to go home because I "only had 22 minutes left". Um seriously? How is this even legal? She charged my card THE FULL AMOUNT, $100. Even though she could have still seen me for that last half hour...
I now understand why she was so indifferent--she knew she was getting paid no matter what happened! No rollover of credit towards a new booking, of course. What this also means is that if you have insurance that pays for massage (which I do with Aetna) there is no way to get it covered, using their online process (the only way to book).
It is clear that a large handful of the revenue for Thrive is for missed and late appointments--there business model is reliant on it. You think it won't be you, but because of the way the booking works, the door being locked, and no one to answer a phone--I assure you, this scenario will easily happen to you.
Sucks for them, too, because I just moved here and was looking to set up a regular 2x a month visit since it's across the street from where I moved. I'm literally a stay at home housewife with nothing going on and money to burn. The really missed out and will never have any idea how much this hurts them in the long run. All for $100...I went to Just For The Health Of It for massage up the street and they gladly took my money. They also told me that it isn't, in fact, legal, according to some massage monitoring-board-something-or-other, so at my next massage on Thursday with them, I will start the process of reporting them. It literally feels like someone stealing from you--because it is! read more
