First time reviewer, long time reader. I've been to hundred of bars, restaurants, and pizza places…read more- some terrible and some outstanding that were worthy of a great review. I say all of that to say that I'm not the type to leave a review one way or another but after visiting the Kaatskeller I felt compelled. We sat by the fireplace since there weren't any open tables and ordered a pizza, cider chicken, a beer, and a cocktail. The drinks, though great, took 20-30min. The food, after the manager asked how long we were waiting, finally came out about 45-50min after ordering. The pizza... if you've been to Costco, just get their personal pies. Costco's are both much better and about a tenth of the price. It was $17 for the barebones plain, 12in (tiny), and underdone to the point that the cheese was visible in its non-melted form. The chicken... oh lord the chicken... for the love of God, save your money. For $16 you get 3 drumsticks (wings) that are delicious - but nowhere near worth the price. Seriously, if any percentage of you want to order this dish, please save yourself the money (and future time writing a similar review). Do yourself a favor and eat literally anywhere else.

The place is still charming as ever, with excellent beverages and bites in a funky garden setting behind a Main Street storefront. Today we had a lovely glass of orange wine -- I'm no wine connoisseur so won't attempt to describe it, but it was enjoyable. Also tried Porch Beer" from Arrowood brewery in Kerhokson which was a refreshing sour.We liked both a lot. Food is provided by a separate entity operating out of a tent in. the back. We lucked out on a strong array of vegetarian options since there was some issue with the pork supplier. We had a peanut tostada! and two kinds of veg tamales, one of which was made from red corn masa. All were as delicious as they were unusual. There is no table service anymore; you order at the bar and at the food tent, but everyone is friendly and courteous. Music was terrific, which I recall from last year. Just relaxing, feel good, low key tunes. Just a little chill happy making afternoon snack. Highly recommended.

The first plate was locked clean. My pups are now napping and likely dreaming of what they just experienced. Staff are warm and easy-going. There is lovely live music being played 5 feet in front of us. The outdoor wood urine oven, fresh vegetables and lovely drinks add to the entire experience. Hidden gem!

A few small observations: The dining room was a little too dark--I love seeing my food, especially when it's so beautifully presented. Since it was my birthday, I expected a bit more than a lone candle. No cookie, treat, or even a candle placed on top of dessert--it just didn't feel special. Dessert wasn't for me. It was somewhere between a milkshake and ice cream, but with a strange mochi-like texture and an overpowering amount of lavender. It felt like eating soap. The quail course tasted amazing, but the presentation wasn't appealing. It looked a bit messy, and leaving the head on (even though it wasn't edible) felt off. The bourbon cream was like a dessert -- sweet, not too heavy, and, for someone who prefers vodka to bourbon, it made me appreciate bourbon more.
