While there is absolutely no argument, there's sandwiches are among the best town, I being a long time and familiar patron, came in today and placed an order for my family, 3 of their great sandwiches, and was handed a single small paper satchel for pickles. I informed the kind cashier that I ordered 3 sandwiches and only received one small paper pickle holder. Typically you get one per sandwich. She informed me that the owner was cutting back to one pickle bag per order because some people were abusing the free pickles they had there. I told her I bought three sandwiches one for each of my family and she said it was one bag of pickles per order. This pretty much put me off and I doubt I'll be back until this changes for the principle of kindness if nothing else. It wasn't like I was gonna rip them off and truth be told, the sandwiches, while wonderful, are expensive. They know my face. I've been a regular customer for quite a while. I was pretty disappointed in that place because truth be told it's my favorite sandwich shop, but that was kind of a chickens*t move. I doubt I'll be back for quite a while. read more

Our guys at the shop LOVE their sandwiches from the Goleta location. If we have to pick just one, our fave is the Goodland Club. It friggin' ROCKS!! I think the bread is the best wheat bread I have every tasted: super fresh, the right texture, delicious and it smells soooooo amazing, oh and it's so yummy to bite in to!! Just the right amount of meat, veggies, sauces and it all comes together in this delicious stack of goodness. We call in a few times a month and have always had a great tasting sandwich. Probably one of my favorite places to get a sandwich in goleta. Only downside is that they close kinda early. The de la guerra is a hearty and delicious. Don't skip the au jus. Three Pickles, an innocuous name for a Goleta outpost with a local branch in downtown Santa Barbara, puts out a sandwich called The Goucho. And that, friends, is just the beginning of a dream come true. This sandwich might just be at the very tippy top of the hot, messy, cheesy, roast beef creations I've ever sampled. It's difficult to describe the coming together of the meat, cheese, and very little else -- there's optional bell peppers for those who want them -- piled high on a thin, crunchy and unbeatably tasty torpedo roll. DEL-ICI-OUS! I have grabbed lunch here several times and each time I've always been very satisfied. Today, I got the Sub Our Way with roasted turkey. The sandwich was amazing. It appeared very bready, but it did not taste that way. It was full of flavor and delicious roasted turkey, pickles, tomatoes, mayo, and mustard. During previous visits, I have ordered their hot pastrami (which is sooo good, but full of caloric guilt!) and the garden salad (which is surprising good considering this place is known for their sandwiches (and their pickles)). Speaking of pickles, they have free homemade pickles (one bag per customer) and as a pickle fanatic, these are not to be missed. The staff is always friendly, they have an awesome selection of refrigerated sodas, as well as a soda fountain, and best of all the have a great Axxess deal for first time users- buy one get one free. They changed their bread and recipe. I've ordered the De LA Guerra for years since they opened! Today I order it-the bread is hard and toasted which it never was like that, they now put guacamole on it instead of sliced avocado. I asked 2 people and they said that's how they do it now...YUCK! If you want hard bread and guacamole smeared on roastbeef (disgusting) then go for it. My fiancé got the pastrami and the bread was hard, meat was chewy. Just plain gross. I'm sad. Highly recommend the Presidio on rye. I've tried many other sandwiches but always fall back on this one. The rye bread is nicely toasted, crisp and tender, holding together the savory juicy pile of pastrami. What more could you ask for? Great sandwiches with quality ingredients. We got three veggie cheese sandwiches. These come with your choice of bread and the standard veggies on the meat sandwiches--lettuce (nice leaf lettuce not iceberg or shredded), tomato, red onion, mayo, mustard (regular or dijon)--plus provolone AND swiss, cucumbers, pickles, avocado and pepperoncinis. The sandwiches were large and satisfying. Three of these plus three chips and two fountain sodas rang up to $32, which isn't necessarily a cheap lunch, but then again you're paying for quality ingredients. You can also fill up a bag of pickles which is a nice accompaniment to the sandwiches. On a Thursday the lunch rush meant we waited probably 5-10 minutes for our sandwiches, and they weren't the hot ones which take longer, so plan accordingly. I'm a die-hard South Coast Deli fan, but decided to give this newly-opened Three Pickles location a try. The staff are incredibly friendly and warm, and the pickle bar is a nice addition to try out while you're waiting for your sandwich. One major plus over SCD; plentiful parking! The couple of sandwiches I've tried are tasty and the portions definitely generous (nearly gave myself a heart attack with the extra-large), but not as flavorful as the ones I've had from SCD. I'll reserve painting all the sandwiches with a broad brush; maybe I've just had the wrong ones. Not too many businesses get away with being open for such a short amount of time, but I get it, being tucked into a business park. Work brought me into the area, lunch brought me into Three Pickles. The staff was the crown jewel of the place. They were funny and energetic, joking with each other, genuinely smiling, and keeping up with a decent lunch rush. I had a veggie sub, really disappointed in the bread. It's basically as exciting as Subway's white bread. I didn't get a pickle, which I now regret after reading all the rave reviews about them. :-( The toppings on the sub were generous, not Mother Theresa generous but definitely more than Subway's Scrooge portions. (Sorry for comparing you guys with Subway, but as a Sandwich shop you gotta feel where I'm coming from.) I hope to come back here honestly, even if it's only to try a home made pickle. read more

(Look for the red umbrellas!) This is my favorite (sorry SCD) deli in Goleta for conveinience and food. They have fairly ample parking (especially compared to others in area) and sandwiches/salads to break some hearts of non-meat eaters. Recommendations include anything with Crispy Cappicola (its like eating an italian bacon crispier than pancetta) or the De La Guerra which combines the best parts of cheesesteak (melted cheese + steak) with the wonderfully california parts of avocado and pico de gallo. The have good cold sandwich options as well for stuff on the go (I've taken one prior to catching a plane and was a perfect stow-away) Salads are great with petrini's dressing (club is the best - I avoid the ham thought) Feel free to stumble across this one and you'll be glad you got out of your Goleta cubicle for an hr. read more

Wow, whoever said the west coast doesn't do pastrami hasn't been to Three Pickles. This place knows how to serve an amazing sandwich! Went here late last week with a friend, and decided to split two sandwiches so we could both try two different sandwiches. First, we ordered the newest addition to their menu (the turkey with spicy, crispy cappicola - I forgot the name). The meat was fresh, red onions were sliced so thin they were translucent, and really plump tomatoes. You can tell their bread is very fresh too. The highlight of the lunch was the pastrami on rye, just like they serve it. We weren't sure which sandwich to order, so we asked the very nice girl behind the counter. She said the Pastrami is by far the best seller - and you know exactly why when you get it. Simply made with fresh rye, piping hot pastrami, spicy mustard and melted cheese, you can't resist devouring it once you have a bite. It's magic. I'm not a mustard fan, but the flavor from the mustard tied the entire sandwich together. You've definetely got to check out Three Pickles if you are around the area, especially if you work around there. It's an awesome place to grab some great sandwiches! read more

My salami sub sandwich was delicious. The bread was fresh and had a nice, chewy mouth feel. This is how a sub should be. The sandwich reminded me the subs I used to get on the East Coast in Rochester, NY. (Back there, Dibella's is THE sandwich place and Three Pickles makes a similar sandwich, complete with lots of oil, onions and mayo.) I wouldn't recommend eating inside. They're about the same price as other places but the quality of the bread, meats and other ingredients don't make me cry over the cost. Service has always been pleasant. There can be a wait if you stop by during the lunch rush, but if you call in your order ahead of time, you can avoid the wait. They have outdoor seating and plenty of parking. If you're feeling like a nice hot sandwich, their take on the Cuban is awesome. There is, however, one major (and easily avoided) downside: hot sandwiches take a very, very long time. To their credit, the restaurant *does* warn you about this, so if you're in a rush just get something cold. I stood around for about 20 minutes (!) at lunch to get a hot sandwich. The seating isn't ideal -- a few tables inside, and some patio seating out front -- but if you're stopping through to get a sandwich, you're probably not looking for a comfy booth.
