The night my girlfriend and I stopped in, a folk quartet was playing. While not exactly my cup of tea, a few cocktails made it all the better. For food, we went with the Beer Braised Pork Belly, Steak and Crab Cake, and Seared Scallops. I think the winner of the 3 was the steak and crab cake. When we came here, the live music was a guy on the piano. It was good, but not amazing. I'm sure that on nights where they have a full band, the place is more intriguing. Their food menu is quite diverse, but I found it lacked flavour. I had ordered the fish tacos, which are usually tangy/citrusy but I found that the sauce was very bland and I had to use excessive lemon juice to get the flavour that I yearned for. I also had pork belly on the scallion pancakes...no complaints about those! They were amazing!! I also tried my friend's mac and cheese which again, seemed to lack flavour as well. read more

We ate here our last night in New Orleans and HOLY CRAP... such a good choice (thanks to awesome Yelp reviews!). This place is small but has an awesome, fun atmosphere (and had live music at 9pm on a Monday night, woo!), and it's right on Frenchmen St, such a good place to explore. We started off with a couple drinks -- The Muse (cucumbers, strawberries, St. Germain, and Nolet's gin) and Lavender Lace (champagne with housemade lavender bitters) -- both awesome. We were starving, so we ordered a ton of food. Fried pickles with ranch (amazing), butternut squash ravioli (heavenly), mac & cheese (we probably emptied this bowl in 60 seconds flat), and the fried green tomatoes with crab salad. OH MY GOD. I have never been so full but so happy. We finished off the night with their peanut butter ecstasy pie (with Nutella ice cream). I didn't even care that my stomach was about to burst... Had a pretty unsatisfying experience here. For those unacquainted, I don't really think Frenchmen Street is the mecca of restaurants. So this place sort of stands out as food-first destination. With that said, I think Three Muses didn't deliver. We have the calamari fries, the steak, and the bruschetta - all were decent at best. My major issue really records the price. Very small portions for full-portion pricing. There were 5 small fries for $9, $16 for 3 very small bites of steak, and the bruschetta was cold. The music really didn't suit my taste either, The woman that played during our meal was more hipster then jazz or funk. The service was fine, I just have a really hard time substantiating the prices for the portions of quality of the food delivered. Eat in the quarter, many more jems. read more

This was the first meal on the first day of our visit to NOLA. We were prepared for a long wait but they had a table for us on a Friday evening as soon as our party of four got there! Took us a few minutes to figure out the system - order drinks and food at the bar, carry your drinks to the table, wait for the food to come out as it gets done. The Sazerac and Hurricane were obligatory on our first night. Didn't disappoint. The food. The menu is not too big, its all small plates with some good vegetarian, fish and meat selections. Falafel sliders were amazing. As were the lamb sliders. The Meyer lemon was not detectable in the Cesar salad but it was excellent. Grilled shrimp on polenta was very good with a dark sauce. Dessert - hazelnut cake with Nutella ice cream - was very dry and not on par with the food quality. Great spot to go for small plates of fresh goodness and live music. We came here famished after our flight from Seattle, as it was close to where we were staying. I enjoyed the homemade burrata & tomato "salad" and the fish tacos. Others in my group had the bacon wrapped stuffed dates (decadent but amazing), pork belly, and skirt steak small plates. All of the food was fresh and delicious, and not giant portions so I didn't feel as if I left in a food coma. Will save that for another day here :) Drinks were good, more of the craft cocktail variety. Ice cream was soooo good. Blueberry buttermilk and Nutella Butterfinger. Yummm! Served in a dish with cookies. Service is a bit unique. You have to order initially at the bar (no waitstaff) though there are staff who come around to clear tables, and we did place more drink orders with these people. Excellent dining experience - and thats not an exaggeration. Fact - great character, good live music (night i was there - piano and standup base), great service, excellent food, and good value. I decided to give this place a try after checking out the menu at pretty much every place on Frenchman st. The menu really caught my attention because they have some. Interesting appetizers, fish tacos & gumbo , and also they were one of the two restaurants that had live music at the moment. It was around 7:00 pm I went in an took a seat on one of the tables on the right side right side next to the wall and in front of the stage , someone quickly approached me and told me I couldn't sit there because that table was reserved . I asked if I could sit in another table and they said no because they are reserved for people who is going to order food but I can sit at the bar if I'm only going to drink . I know it's New Orleans and most people are there for the drinks but some of us like to eat too. I told the lady I'm actually there to have dinner , and she gave me a menu . Around 20 minutes passed and no one had taken my order , other two couples arrived and they were quickly approached by a waiter ( they were on the other side , so maybe the service was quicker there ). I was about to leave but the waitress finally came , at this point I'm not sure if I want to spend much time there (because the service was bad to begin with ) so I decide to order the fish tacos only . First thing the waitress told me was "we serve really small portions" , as If I needed to lower my expectations even more . Anyway those tacos didn't disappointed , they were tasty and filling . People from tables next to mine kept asking what did I order because they also looked really good (and not small at all ) . They had a couple more things I wanted to try but I just wasn't in the mood to spend more time there and I went to a different restaurant to finish my dinner . Oh my, this was a great find. The food is great and the mixologists talented. What more can a girl ask for? Oh yeahhh, music! We were visiting New Orleans and found this in the Cities Guide from the Travel Channel. It did not disappoint as a bar. The drinks were outstanding and the braised pork belly served on a scallion cake was outrageously delicious. BUT The place has some issues. 1. It's very hard to find a place to sit where you can actually SEE the band. There are pillars down the middle of the restaurant that you can't see around. The first night we were there for drinks so it was sort of OK and we had fun anyway. 2. When we made a reservation for the second night we specifically said we were there to see the band and yet we still go seated where we couldn't see them. They weren't busy yet but the hostess refused to seat us anywhere else. We had told our server (who was very good) that we were planning on lingering but we bought food and drinks in several stages so we were unpleasantly surprised when we went to order dessert and the server informed us that the hostess wanted us to move to the bar (standing room only) to make the table available for someone else. I've never been one to hog a table without ordering enough and making it up to the server and there were several open tables still. We ended up leaving instead. SO go for the drinks and the bar nibbles but don't expect to spend the evening eating, drinking and listening to music. read more

Reservations should be made if you have a group since it is a small place and seating is limited. We ordered a lot of food and they were all delicious. The portions are small so you can sample them all. Instead there was a really nice, easy going, order from any of us cause it gets loud in here type vibe. I wish i could remember what we ordered, but there were four of us and we ordered a bit of everything. The sweet potato gnocchi was so good we had to order another round. I also had a blueberry mojito that was divine. The food came out fast and all of it was just incredible. We totally would have spent some serious cash if not for another engagement we had to get to. Went here last night to try out the food and I have to say, fellow Yelpers, that I was slightly disappointed. Got the feta fries ($7), small bruschetta ($8), small butternut squash ravioli ($8), and fish tacos ($9). I knew what I was getting into with the feta fries, but why not just melt the damn cheese so I don't have to pick it up with my fingers and PLACE it on the fries? The fish tacos were alright, but I expected the fish to be breaded. Sadly, it was not and the fish was a little too fishy for me (yes, I realize that sounds silly). The redeemers were excellent; the bruschetta and the ravioli. I have no idea what they put in that ravioli: cinnamon? butter extract? crack? but it was effing heaven. It's the butteriest butter flavor you can have AND the ravioli is surprisingly sweet. It would be a slam dunk for me, but the $8 is just sooooooo small. I knew going in that portions would be small but they're really teeny tiny. We also had the orange blossom sazerac ($9) which my boyfriend loved and the Lavender Lace ($7), a champagne and lavender bitter drink which I thought would be more lavendery. Our first meal in New Orleans and it did not disappoint! We did have a 30 minute wait since we didn't have reservations but we killed that time by having a drink at 13. Once inside, the Jazz was in full action and we were seated at the window- prime people watching during Mardi Gras! And we saw some interesting stuff. But you're here for the food... I had the Earl Grey Gardens drink which had a light earl tea flavor to it. It was light. For food, this is a tapas place, so we did shared plates. We got the French fries, lamb sliders, fish tacos and scallops. I like the fries and sliders the best. The sliders came with pickles which was a nice touch. The scallops were my least favorite tapas we ordered. I heard this was on a best foods list so I'm glad we stumbled on it! read more

(5/10/13) We were told that this was one of the good places to go if you wanted to enjoy some local food without the tourist trap prices. My friend and I arrived just before the happy rush, which meant we were able to find a table before it became crowded. I tried the shrimp tempura (pretty good), lobster egg rolls (o.k. - tasted mostly like cabbage, the lobster wasn't noticeable) and lamb sliders (pretty good). In general, the food was o.k. but not necessarily memorable, however, the goat cheese cheesecake was very good - not to sweet and just the right serving size. I think that I would go back for the cheesecake. We were told that the restaurant doesn't really do table service, so when the staff isn't nearby, you just pop over to the bar and place your order. Tom McDermott as house entertainment, playing three feet from our table? Here, Three Muses, have another star, won't you? This is a good choice in the transformed Frenchman street tourist district for interesting dishes in the "small plate" format, not quite tapas, but not quite entrees, either. The best way to experience their menu is in a group, preferably one where everyone is willing to share a portion. Most items are served in discrete pieces that are easily shared (scallops, deviled eggs, etc.) The food is good, if a bit on the rich side. So too are the prices, so expect to drop about $30 per person on food. If you're listening to someone like Tom McDermott perform live without a cover charge, that becomes part of the price. Consider that a bargain (but don't forget to tip the musician). The "vegetarian" version Deviled Egg menu item dispenses with the duck fat crisp atop each egg. But an egg is an egg; beware, vegetarians, these don't grow on trees. That is perhaps unfair criticism, as the menu here is definitely trying to provide alternatives to standard fare such as bacon-wrapped dates and scallops with a macque-choux vegetable side. One problem at a recent visit was some inconsistency in service. One entree showed up a couple of minutes after the rest, leaving one in my party diner to implore the rest to "go ahead, don't wait for me". That shouldn't happen. The drink service was right on top of our needs. My recommendation is to keep an eye who's playing (Tom McDermott, the New Orleans piano professor whom I'll mention a third time here, is a great example), and plan to have dinner when they're on. Sometimes they start right when the doors open at 5. That's a wonderful option if you want to catch some live, local music with a six-year old in tow, even on a school night. read more

The Mac and cheese was so gooey and delicious. The falafel was probably my favorite. And the fish tacos were pretty tasty as well. Nothing was bad! The atmosphere is chill and cool. Laid back with good feels. I'm a big fan of the size of the place, intimate and small. The jazz band was great, especially the bassist. And it was clean. Somehow, they managed to leave enough room for a fully stocked bar. Three Muses offers a Daily Riff specialty cocktail. Today's was made with Bulleit Rye Whiskey and a lemon syrup. The bartender recommended the housemade gnochetti in a deliciously creamy cheese sauce with peas, pancetta, and breadcrumbs. This could be the fanciest version of macaroni and cheese I've consumed to date. I approve. Also, halfway through my dinner a live band was performing real music. My friends and I went here during Mardi Gras. Right off the bat the service was bad. We had a reservation and the table wasn't ready. We missed the small sign in the window that said to wait outside and the server inside made a big stink about us going back out and waiting, super unprofessional. We didn't see the sign and weren't intentionally waiting inside. If you have a hostess, make sure she's actually at the front ready to greet customers. Secondly, the waiter wasn't much better. He messed up an order and we were taken back by his lack of non-Southern hospitality we had seen thus far in NOLA. He rolled his eyes upon realizing the side we ordered was brought out differently than requested. They crammed 7 of us into a super tiny table that unless we had asked to be rearranged later would have made for a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Only plus was the band. A French group entered and proceeded to wait inside and not outside for over 5 min obscuring our view of the band and no server made any comment towards them. We couldn't help but think perhaps there might be some racism towards our diverse and multicultural group. Again another new experience for NOLA. Although the food was tasty, the portions were smaller than we anticipated but can't complain too hard on that. FINALLY upon asking us if our service had been good or bad (a different server approached our table probably after seeing our low tip) when we told her we would like to tell her in detail why the service was bad, she didn't care to listen to our thoughts. Therefore proving they have no intentions of learning how to improve their service. There are so many great places with the same vibe and just as good food so go elsewhere on Frenchmen is my suggestion. read more

Absolutely fantastic. The music, the food, the people -- all 5 stars. We arrived here pretty late in the evening on New Year's Eve. As expected the wait was forever for a table and I hadn't reserved early enough to get one for the holiday so we tried our shot for the bar (no wait). Boy, did we get lucky, as we arrived two people left the bar table and we swooped on their seats. The music was jamming, some great classic jazz as well as some wonderful R&B. The bartender was extremely friendly and helpful in getting us drinks that fit our preferences and got to ordering some tapas. We went for the meat and cheese plate and the steak. Oh my god that steak. Everything came into place: drinks, food, ambiance, music, company. We closed the 2015 year with a great experience that I will never forget! read more

This place was exceptional. The food was amazing and they had the best cocktail in Nola the weekend I visited. Small plates was just what we wanted for dinner as we weren't ravenous. The gumbo was superb. It had just enough kick to be flavorful, certainly not hot which I appreciated. It was perfect to share. We also had lamb sliders which were soooo tender. This was my first lamb experience so I don't have anything to compare them to, but I can say they were hearty, tender, juicy, and so so flavorful. We also tried the fried with feta and they were really nice as well. My favorite, though, were the fish tacos - definitely give those a try. The star of the show was my champagne supernova. I wanted something light and fresh - they did not disappoint! We loved this place so much that when we walked Frenchmen another night, we decided to swing by the bar and have a cocktail again. Definitely make reservations to be seated in a decent timeframe. Tables are reserved an hour and a half for dinner so the rotation shouldn't be bad though. On my first night in New Orleans, walking down Bourbon Street to Three Muses was definitely worth it. Passing through all the crazy costumes, booze and naked chicks made the trendy, unassuming, blues filled restaurant/bar that much more welcoming. I went there because of the good reviews, and ordered based on what others in Yelp had reported. I was not disappointed. The Mac&Cheese with brussel sprouts was amazing. The "Dirty Dan" martini was delicious. 2 martinis, entree and Mexican Chocolate ice cream cost me $30! WHAT!? That's super cheap for this DC girl. I spent the evening chatting with a local, retired gentleman who had entertaining stories and great food/music recommendations. I was there alone, which worked to my advantage: I got a seat at the bar while groups waited close to an hour for a table. This was at 7pm on a Sat in Oct. The only negative was that I spent 10 minutes sitting at the bar without anyone behind the bar making eye contact with me. Finally, a bar tender washing glasses happened to look up and I placed an order with him. That didn't make me feel welcome, but I got my drinks and food very quickly. Live Jazz/blues was fantastic! I've really liked the music every time I've been here and they've all been really different styles of music. Now the food: The bruschetta changes a lot so when I was there the second time we had an eggplant one and it was amaaaaazing!! The best I've had, though for 3 kinda big pieces, $9 is pretty steep... As was the $9 Lobster Egg Roll (2) - I didn't even really taste much lobster and $9 Fish Tacos (3 mini). The vegetarian rice bowl and edamame were good and filling, especially in proportion to its price. The cool atmosphere, good music, friendly staff, and fresh food ideas will keep me coming back. One of the best meals I had in New Orleans! Just thinking back to the food is enough to make my mouth water. There's no point in listing menu items to try: absolutely everything here is delicious (although I'll give an extra special shout-out to the bleu cheese filled dates wrapped in bacon. Foodgasm!). The drinks and music were great, but it's the food that really shines through here. If you want to come here for a meal, make sure to come early, especially if you have a large group. I came with a pretty large group (6 people) about half an hour after they opened, and we barely managed to get a table big enough to fit us. All of the food comes in small or large portions. I recommend getting a bunch of small portions so you can try as much as possible. The signs posted around the columns all say to order both food and drinks at the bar, but some of the staff also periodically walk around the tables, and you can also place an order with them to put on your tab. We didn't have any problems, but it did feel a bit disjointed, and I wonder if they get orders and payments mixed up when the place is more full. It's not a great place to bring little kids, but if you do, order them the gnocchietti; it's basically creamy mac and cheese. read more

Great tapas on the outskirts of the French Quarter. I recommend getting here early and enjoying it before a walk through the quarter at night. The food was all very, very good. Creative dishes in reasonable portions at slightly higher than I would have liked prices. But OK nonetheless! The steak and cake was the winner for sure. $16 but every bite delicious. My first meal in New Orleans was here at Three Muses. The space is appropriate for a music venue, but it's TINY for a restaurant. I really recommend you make a reservation here, otherwise you'll be waiting outside for a while since they follow max occupancy rules pretty closely. I ordered the Three Muses fries, pork belly on scallion pancake (small portion), and lamb sliders (small portion). -The fries are crazy good - imagine it as a Greek poutine. The combination of feta and lemon is tangy, and Three Muses doesn't skimp on cheese! Carbs and cheese, a beautiful combo. Side note, don't even bother with the ketchup they serve alongside. -The pork belly was ok; it had good flavor, but it was a little too tough and stringy for my taste. I thought the scallion pancake was the best part of the dish, which shouldn't have been the case for a wonderful piece of meat... -The lamb sliders have a really intense flavor. The lamb was seasoned incredibly well but not overbearingly so, and the tomato sauce on top added an acidic dimension to the richness of the patty. Really solid dish. 3 plates for 1 person was a little ambitious, but I finished everything happily (albeit it was a small struggle towards the end) - 2 plates per person is a good estimate. The music here, by the way, is excellent. If you have the time to spare, you should definitely try to catch at least one show while you eat. Depending on who plays, it'll be either excellent background music, or an awesome show that really embodies the spirit of New Orleans jazz that gets the crowd going. While the food here is good, it's the entertainment that sets it apart. read more

The food here is fantastic! I recommend the tempura fried shrimp, charcuterie tray, steak frites and Mac and cheese. They also had a special that night for shoshito peppers which was very good as well. My husband and friend also tried the fish tacos and pork belly and said it was great! Our server was awesome but the host was super rude and short with us (and everyone else) - I don't know why but she practically yelled at everyone. read more

We really, really like this restaurant. Opens at 4 pm till ? Nice music, nice people, great staff, very mellow atmosphere and music. The food is very eclectic and inventive-- lobster rolls, crabmeat and artichoke ravioli, moules frites, Bratwurst, Korean platter, pork tenderloin-- varied and quite interesting. Most portions are tapas sized. Prices are reasonable. The bar is wonderful, and the clientele is so varied that you really can't specify any certain type of crowd-- they're all just darn nice people that go there :-) A real pleasant dining experience :-) read more

Walk in and start your drinking with "The Dirty Dan", a dirty martini like no other. I'm not a big fan of dirty martinis but this one made me do a 180! (the secret is the house-made olive brine..) Food items which are a must have are: Duck Confit with Goat Cheese Flat bread, Pork Osso Bucco with Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Feta fries, & Steak and Cake. Great vibe and live music. A lot less crazy and loud than some of the other live music places on Frenchmen Street. The music here was more sophisticated and easy on the ears. Tried the rose and my husband had the Woodstock Reserve bourbon which was delicious! Sadly we weren't too fond of the food however. Expensive and not cooked well. We went here for lunch and had a great experience. The restaurant was really fun. Ambience and service were great. The waitress/bar tender was so nice and made delicious drinks. Great paintings on all the walls. The live musician was really talented and played great songs. Plus, it was in a great location on Frenchman street, with cool shops and live music venues very close by. The menu was kind of small, and several amazing dishes I found on yelp - including ravioli - were no longer offered, or only offered during dinner. However, the dishes we ordered were really good. My husband ordered lamb sliders. The lamb was seasoned and cooked well, but next time I'd ask for the red sauce on the side. It was yummy, but a bit overpowering. I had the sweet potato biscuits and sausage gravy, with poached eggs. I would eat that meal every day if I could. The biscuits were soft, had a great sweet potato taste, but not too sweet. Their gravy recipe was perfect with the biscuits. I'll definitely go back next time we are in New Orleans! read more
