Waited forever for a server...longer for a drink...even longer for food. When it did come, half of it was wrong and two other half was missing. When we finally got up to question someone on our missing burger, they flipped us attitude about having just clocked on, told us it was just put on the grill...no apologies, no explaination as to why our server hadn't told us about the mix up when she brought out our order. I was a server for over 10 years, I get mistakes, I get being busy, what is unacceptable is the lack of communication and the attitude. Disappointing food; GREAT BEER. I had the autumn Saison. It was very very good. The food review however-----a lunch group with lots of choices. I had lunch special with beet salad and a half cheesy mushroom sandwich. Sandwich was very salty, nothing special about grilled cheese and mushrooms. Bread was good, well toasted! Beet salad again nothing special---little or no dressing. They do not know how to pickle beets. Beets were so hard no one (three of three) at the table could eat them. AND AGAIN VERY VERY SALTY. There are at least three expert pickling parts of the world--eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan. Some one from the kitchen needs to find and take a lesson from a restaurant from one of those areas that knows what they are doing in a commercial kitchen. Pastrami sandwich is full of wierd stuff. I guess I am a true New Yorker. I want great rye bread, deli mustard and about a half inch of hot pastrami. Add a great dill pickle like Claussen and I am a happy gal. That's it. The third sandwich choice was Salmon, BUT THE SALMON AT NOON WAS NOT READY TO SERVE. Attributed to soft opening. Service was fine. But they were not busy. Hope the food improves, or the state lunch crowd won't be coming here. Oh, I ate the lunch special $8; I was charged for a full cheesy mushroom sandwich $9. Just looked at the receipt before filing. It's so disappointing that customers are not treated with exceptional service because of some stupid soccer only rule. We used to live in Oly and loved it - came back for a visit and couldn't be more disappointed with this new brewery that we heard so many great things about. We ordered the beer sampler and it was good, but then we asked if they could change the TV to the Final Four tournament. The bartender said we only play soccer - but we pointed out the TV was currently on Formula One racing - so she said it should be turned off then, and that's exactly what she did. A few minutes later another couple walked in and asked about the basketball tournament, they were also denied and they left. Later, we heard the staff talking very rudely about customers who asked to watched basketball. We are not coming back, and we won't be the only ones! read more

We've tried this place about 4 times now and this is the last time we'll "try it one more time". The menu/food is below average. The beer is decent but you can get it at other places in town, like Oly Taproom. The worst part is probably the customer service. It's almost as if they'd rather you not be there to bother them. On our last trip, it was a Monday night, there were 2 customers in the whole place at 7:30. I asked if they could turn the TV on to the Mariner game. I was informed it was a soccer bar and they don't show baseball. With only 2 customers sitting there they watched my wife and I go spend money somewhere else so they could remain a soccer bar? Great beer. Good food. Terrible service. I was so excited to have a brewpub in Olympia that knows how to handle their yeast and make good craft beer. Beer that competes with Oregon juggernauts like Deschutes, HUB, 10 Barrel (before they sold out), and Crux. The Pacific Northwest has lacked in craft beer, unless you're a fan of Fish Tail, then there's finally some competition. Thing is, 3Mag is only one new brewpub of competition away from destruction, unless they find a better way to manage their pub/restaurant as well as they brew their beer. More than once I have experienced terrible service; being told after waiting in line someone will take my order and to take a seat, waiting over 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge us once seated, then an addition 15 minutes after getting our beer to finally order food; or when our waitress never returned after delivering our food to ask how thing were. We actually had to walk up front to ask for our tab after our table was emptied and we sat there for 15 minutes. Service is everything and if Three Magnets could improve on this, I would easily give them 5 stars. But at this point, I'd rather go buy some delicious craft beer from Gravity, then have yet another negative experience, after easily dropping $50.00 in a single sitting at 3Mags, and walk away angry. It's not worth the time, money, or the headache. read more

The staff at this place need to huddle up and make a decision to take customer service more seriously. Been here like 15 times and always feel like the staff don't care whether you're there or not. How hard is it to greet someone and say we'll be right with you, even if it means 15 minutes later and pretentious attitude. I will say they have the best beer in Oly but theres not much competition either. Food is overpriced. I really want to be positive since this brewery does make downtown better and is a fairly hip spot, albeit mostly an evergreen stuffy vibe. If service was even a little more attentive and friendly this place would rate much higher. read more

At first glance 3 Magnets looks like a great place to eat and drink. Once you are inside that all changes. Confusing and cumbersome way of ordering at the bar, small overpriced menu, cocky and inept staff as well as the terrible food. The fish was bland and the chowder was cold. The fries were few and lukewarm. The beer on the other hand was good, very good. Totally overshadowed by the rest of the negatives about this place. I will return again after eating some place else and have a few beers. One day in the distant future I might think about spending my hard earned money on their food. Hopefully they figure it out by then but I won't keep my fingers crossed. I had high hopes for 3 Magnets and was left very disappointed. Bummer! read more

Here is an awesome spot in downtown Olympia that on paper states that it serves great, local when possible, eats and drinks....buuuuuuut on a continued basis has demonstrated a pattern of disregard and complete lack of customer service. I have watched others and myself sit and wait and wait and wait for service and even the same occurs when you wait and wait and wait at the bar to order food and beer. Totally limiting the effort needed to provide normal customer service literally anywhere else. Three Magnets is fast becoming our local. It can get pretty boring drinking one more over-hopped craft IPA: there's none of that at Three Magnets! The beers are inventive and delicious. They had a solera-styled sour on a couple of our trips, that rocked my world. The food choices are a little restrictive but you can tell the chef cares. The rice in my vegetarian rice bowl was perfectly crispy and topped with all manner of yummy stuff. My companion got dreamy-eyed over her lamb burger. I think they are making their own pickles, too. The staff are pleasant and relaxed. It's true, this may not be the place to come if you have a plane to catch. If, however, you are looking for a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon over a positively awesome beer or two and some tasty food, this is your place. There's parking 20' from the back door, too, if you are actually worried about the neighborhood. read more

Last night (Sunday), my partner and I drove from Seattle to meet up with some friends for dinner at Three Magnets Brewing Co. I got a cider, and my partner had their oatmeal stout. The staff started a tab for us. After my partner and I got our drinks, we sat down and waited for our friends to arrive. Once they showed up, all four of us placed food orders, on two separate tabs. My partner and I had ordered two of their jamburgers. Our friends' food arrived about 10 minutes later, and they seemed really pleased with it. We waited another ten minutes, and our burgers were no-show. The restaurant wasn't PACKED, there were a couple of open tables. Another ten minutes, no food, and no staff came by to check in with us. We had fun talking to our friends, who apologized repeatedly that they were eating in front of us, while we didn't have any food yet. Finally, FORTY MINUTES after placing our food orders, my partner went up to the bar and asked if everything was alright with our food. The staff said 'oh, the computer didn't submit the order' and placed the order again. Another ten minutes went by, and a staff member came over to update us that the burgers would be 'just a few more minutes', and offered to bring us an appetizer, and more drinks. Another five minutes, and I was really glad they comp'd us an order of 'moon rocks', because the serving came out to be about $1 per moon rock. When our burgers FINALLY arrived, I was pleasantly surprised, the burger was delicious (although, having 2 ciders on an empty stomach over the course of over an hour may have been a factor), and the fries were really good, too. My partner tried the 'Triceratops' coffee milk stout and said it was delicious. Unfortunately, despite all our waiting, they still charged us full price for the second round of drinks. Overall, the drinks were good, the food was good, the atmosphere was at least clean, but we ended up waiting entirely too long, and paid WAY too much for sub-par service and two hours of driving. I'd love to support a local brewery, but not if they can't get their act together. read more

Ate dinner in the front room last evening. The beer bats .500. I had a flight of five. Two were good, one was ok and the other two were thumbs down. The IPA was good as was the 'wreathing havoc'. the 'English Mild' was good as well, but it is all a matter of personal taste. The real reason I am writing this review was two egregious health code violations that were on full display the entire time we were there. One of the cooks was wearing a tank top and his large, black, furry, sweaty armpits were waving over all the food he was preparing all evening. Also, he was eating... that's right; EATING OVER the food he was preparing. Need I say more? It was very disgusting and they are going to get a visit from the Health Department this week. read more

It's difficult to judge a place, on its first day opening to the public. The first day is always chaotic, and hard to gauge. But, nonetheless, the beer selection is quite refreshing with a solid number of selections. But, the kitchen side was a bit disappointing - cold fish and chips, and soup (the fish was under seasoned, and the breading wasn't to my liking). But, again, it's hard to judge just on today. The staff is quite pleasant, and do a wonderful job checking on customers, and again, the beer is damn good. So, I certainly can't wait for what will become of this hip new place. read more

Given that they are still working out the kinks with the menu I will give them a three but have hope they will be able to raise that rating soon with another visit. We went for lunch so this is a beer free review aimed at the lunch fare. We had the beet salad, a burger with fries and an appetizer of the fried cheese curds or moon rocks as they call them. The flavor of the salad was great and it had great textual components. The one issue was the huge pickled beets that had not been roasted. I actually love raw beets but they need to be shoe stringed or sliced thinly to work. That first bite never seemed to end and was a little embarrassing....chew chew chew. The portion was closer to a side salad and I am sorry but an extra cup of lettuce would not break the bank. There was plenty of dressing to cover it. No complaints about the burger from my lunchmate but mind you he got it sans bun, tomato, and onion so there was not much to complain about although personally I like my bacon a little more done. No floppy bacon for me! Love the high quality ingredients they are using for sure. The fries were seasoned well and the homemade dill ranch was a great thick consistency with full flavor. I was a little disappointed with the cheese curds. They were pretty plain and not fried enough for my taste. Some were not even melty inside. They served them with a jam that needed some acid to up the flavor quotient. All in all they have the makings to be a great place with a really cool vibe. The price point seems fine for the vibe if they were to make the servings slightly larger. Can't wait to try it again and enjoy one of the brews. read more

This place definitely has the happy hour feel and offers great happy hour specials, but the food is a little lack luster. My friend ordered the "Soup of the Day" which was advertised as Cream of Cauliflower. Instead he got Bacon and Oyster. I ordered the grilled cheese (for $11) and got a small sandwich with unmelted cheese. It was also inconvenient to go up to the counter and wait in line to order side items like salad dressing and condiments. The staff was knowledgable about the menu and beer selections and everyone was very friendly (despite being overwhelmed by so many patrons in the establishment). I left hungry but had a nice time. I don't think i would recommend eating there, but is fun for drinking. read more

My boyfriend and I had been excited to try this place because we had a number of friends tell us that the food and brews were really good. When we arrived, a girl behind the counter greeted us, showed us our menus and let us know that if we sat at a table a waiter would be with us to take our order. After twenty minutes of waiting in the family section, it started to feel like we were being actively ignored. I'm unsure if there was some sort of misunderstanding about how we were supposed to order, there wasn't any signage and the staff didn't seem very perceptive of our confusion. We had a party of 9 for lunch. I give it 2 stars because the beer is good. The food was expensive and was not that great. You had to go get your own beer and you order your food by standing in line like at Micky D's and the place is really noisy. Out of the 9 none of us no body was happy. If I'm going to spend that kind of money I will go to a place that wait on your table and you can have a conversation without raising your voice. There are just to many good places in Oly to spend your money and enjoy the food and beer. If they are to survive they are really going to have to make changes !!! read more
