The customer service is terrible! I waited 10 minutes in line at 8:20am before work while 1 cashier worked the line. Another cashier came and allowed some man to walk up and cut everyone in line. When I said " I was here first" she replied "well he already put his money down". I came here every morning before work for a year. I walked out today without purchasing anything & I won't be returning. read more

I've said previously, it's a rare occasion when I purchase gas, like for this visit when I had to fill up my rental before returning it across the street at Hertz. So, points for convenience. Points for having so many pumps. I didn't look at price, just selected the lowest octane level. The premises looked clean, lots of paper towels and cleaner to wash the windshield (I didn't use it). Busy! read more

They have corporate specials on Nicotine pouches all the time. The problem is they don't always have it loaded in the system. So you pay full price. I've decided to move my business to an online business. It will probably be cheaper anyway. I used to come in a get a drink etc. And always got gas there. It was out of the way. But I liked going for the pouches. They don't seem to care so I'm fine. read more

Key pads not working on multiple pumps. I go in to prepay and six people are already in line. No thanks. And this isn't the first time. Their key pads often don't work. Seems like they're not getting fixed. And the kicker? They charge the same inflated gas price as the shell station across the street. For a discount experience the least they can do is give a discount on their product. read more

I tried to cash in a $500 lottery scratch off win and the manager told me it was a store policy not to give out more than $250 even if they sold the ticket, When I pointed out that it was an Illinois lottery policy for stores to payout up to $600. The manager said "don't be a Karen" and then told my child "don't grow up to be like your mother." While the clerk laughed, I just noticed a review was posted 2 hours before mine that described a rude clerk who belittled her father. This is the same women who laughed at her "manager" who called me a Karen, read more

While others talk about the rewards club for special pricing etc I just come here for gas. I'm not one to join the rewards thing at every place that offers it but sounds like it might be worth it here. This gas station is next to my gym so it's convenient and so I gas up and that's it. I don't generally go inside to purchase anything but I have been in a time or two and seems nice. But the pay at the pump and getting gas works so I guess that's worthy of a solid 4 stars for me. read more

This is where you go for all things flammable. And, be ready to social distance to get it! Our turkey burger dinner took a bit of a hiccup when we finally ran out of gas in our grill. Since there is a propane shortage, Thornton's seems to be the only stop in the area that carries it. Their propane was a bit more expensive, and looked a little different than your usual propane brands, but who cares! Maybe they have their own distributor? The process to purchase propane was a little slow, but for a great reason. Thornton's means business when it comes to social distancing. There were 12 other people in line ahead of me, and with their very strict socially distanced markers placed around the store, I was far back in the line. Why so busy? Because Thornton's is also a major distributor of cigarettes in the area. When in line, you must stand on the designated sticker. There was one guy who got off the sticker a bit, and someone told him to get back on! It was kind of like being in the grade school lineup. No messing around! The process to get propane, was to wait in line. You don't have to worry about carrying your empty can with you. You can leave that outside. The guy behind the plexi-shield counter said he'd come out and meet me. Once I got up to the line and paid, I went outside and waited. The guy came right out, and I was on my way. Thornton's rocks. These guys mean business. Oh, and in case you're wondering about the turkey burgers, they were saved and delicious :-) read more

The people in the reviews are right-- Really really rude staff. I called to get information over the phone and she just hung up on me.

I'm not one to write negative reviews. That said, I'm genuinely appalled by the rudeness and ageism I just watched my father experience. I'm 21, he is a boomer. This woman at the register (20s, Black, long black braids) was condescending, patronizing, and directly mocked him to his face. She was impatient and snappy while he was making his transaction, and after the purchase went through, she "cheered" for him for an embarrassingly long amount of time. When I stepped in and said, "Hey, I know my dad is a Boomer, but there's no need to be rude." she genuinely lit up, almost excited for a confrontation. She said "Who's being rude? I'm not being rude." and I took a beat before saying, "girl I'm not stupid, you're directly mocking him to his face." She actually started to call her co-worker over, to which I said, "Seriously? And now you're gonna make a scene?" before walking out. Literally the RUDEST interaction from someone in "customer service" I've EVER seen. read more

Honestly, if you're going to be in customer service. Then you should at least throw on a happy face and do the job expected. A snail with absolutely no reverence to wether her employer succeeds or fails was my experience today. In all honesty, the young lady. If you're reading this. Just seek out other employment opportunities. read more

Very nice gas station in the Deerfield/Highland Park area the employees are nice and very professional.

Sarah was so rude. When I asked her to apply my points she didn't want to redo the transaction. I know how you can cancel and apply the points. No wonder why the stations ratings are low. read more

Finally got a Thorntons here in HP and boy is it packed all of the time! The gas prices are definitely lower than most in the area and the main reason that I come here? THE .69 cent drinks in any size and the .89 cent slushies! Ever since they opened, this place draws in a crowd. There is quite the selection of drinks, coffees, and snacks. The lines tend to get long but they still move pretty quickly. Bravo Thorntons, bravo. read more

Has gas 3.27 Been here a couple of times...easy to get into and right by the expressway if one needs gas....I believe this one is also in Lake county so of course..lower tax. Staff inside was social and nice...place was clean and pretty big..and both times I seen the Highland Park police here so I can even say pretty safe? Not far from Anton's so I get my gas here when I can when in the area again. :) read more

It's usually my go to gas station when I need gas and I'm around town, since it's down the street from my house and it's cheaper than the shell across the street. Haven't been inside for years so I can't say what's like but I have to guess it's pretty much the same with lots of food and drink choices. It has a couple of entrances/exits so it's easy to get in and out. read more

Regular unleaded is often 5¢ ~ 10¢ cheaper than many of the other stations in the area. Their pumps are modern pay-at-the-pump models, which always seem to work (a lot of the stations in the area have problems printing receipts). Their pump area is well lit, their canopy is large to keep the weather out, and they have plenty of parking. The market area is well stocked and maintained, featuring a HUGE variety of hot & cold drinks and snacks for road warriors - coffee, lattes, blended ice drinks, lemonade, tea, lots of fountain drinks, and they've got so many canned or bottled drinks to choose from. It's not always on late at night, but during most daytime hours they have really good soft-serve ice cream. If you miss the soft-serve, there's always plenty of ice cream novelties in their freezer, and even quarts of ice cream in the back. Their 2-for-$3 dog deal (mix and match all-beef hot dogs, Polish sausages, or bratwurst) is a pretty good deal, and they have a lot of fresh toppings to pile on. Their pizza rollers are fairly good, by mini-mart standards. There are some pretty decent sandwiches in the cooler, though nothing special. They have a fair selection of groceries, home goods, travel accessories, OTC medications, and auto accessories if you need to grab something quick at 2 in the morning. The staff are all pretty friendly, and seem to keep the place nice and clean. Late at night; they can sometimes get a little swamped when there is only one attendant helping half-a-dozen customers, but they do their best to power through a cache. The restrooms are probably the cleanest of any gas station in the area. There's a nice grassy area just to the north that you can let a dog run around, and go potty as well (please clean up after them). There are a few parking spots on the north side of the main building, which are nicely lit and are good for chilling out for a few minutes and eating a quick snack. I see HPPD cruisers around somewhat regularly, so the place seems fairly safe. When I need to gas up, or want a late-late night bite to eat, Thorntons on Skokie is one of my top go-to spots. read more

Horrible. Always busy. Only one cashier always. You can find other employees walking around doing god knows what. Some may be on the clock, some may be in front of you line. Awful. Once you finally get to the front of the line, the cashier is never polite. They can be this way because they are the only show in town. Just bad. Its a gas station, not Mortons Steakhouse. Act like one. read more

$.99 soft serve ice cream bar for a small??! Need I say more? The small cup I think is 16 oz. They have 3 sizes. I believe the large is $1.99. They have a soft serve machine with about 8 flavors to choose from. It's vanilla soft serve with a flavor blast. Toppings include: crumbled waffle cone, sprinkles, oreos, gummy bears, peanuts. When I made mine, I went to the coffee bar and put chocolate syrup with whip cream on mine! I was in heaven! :) The drinks are really cheap also. The coffee is $.89 for any size with unlimited toppings! They have about 4 syrups you can mix into the coffee with a variety of different coffee to choose from. Also, get the thornton's frequent shopper card. After you buy a certain amount of coffee or ice cream, you get one free! read more

Cheapest gas around!

Gas that is cheaper than most places around. The most expensive it will be is equal to the other stations. So if I'm in the area I'll just head here because I know its at a pricepoint that makes me happy. Plus if you want to wash your car you get a discount at the carwash across the street if you buy your wash here. read more

Had my worst experience today at this place where the clerk was extremely rude and abusive. They need to treat customers with respect and dignity which I found doesn't exist in the employees at this location. Training in customer service would go a long way, hoping someone from management takes a heed of the situation and make necessary changes in employee attitudes to make this place a better business. Until then I would avoid giving them business. read more

I had a very bad customer service and very rude employees and thieves. The old employee she always rude never smile but new younger she is very rude and thieve . I scanned my winning lottery tickets and I won 20 for each one and she wanted to give me just 25 for both and keep pushing me to take the 25 and go but I refused to take it and I called the police and thank to their help they discovered the amount that they have to pay me is 40 not 25 the employees at this gas station are very bad unprofessional and thieves so I want every customer to take care be careful not to go to this gas station read more

Absolute trash right now. Go ahead and fuel up but there is no staff inside. Maybe offer more money than minimum wage and you'll find help.

I dont't know where to start. I love Thorntons! They always have the lowest prices, atleast as far as the northshore goes. The staff is very friendly and polite. Thorntons is extremely well maintained and I think they take pridein it. The foods and drinks are extremely cheap. Any size coffee for 89 cents? Thank you good sir! I love the french vanilla they carry. I officially stopped getting cheap coffee at Dunkin and simply make my way out here. To sum up, if you live in Northbrook like myself, I do not see a single reason to go to any other gas station for your fuel and snack needs. Also, I talked to an employer and as it turns out, rumor has it that Thorntons is expanding to the west coast! I wish this company the best and I hope they won't change for the worse. read more

Worst customer service experience I've ever had at a gas station... which is saying a lot. I'm fine with employees not being fake nice... I don't need to be coddled. However, I'd appreciate not being treated like a pest (which was my experience). I tried to exchange propane and, since this was my first time doing so, I walked into the store with the tank to ask what the proper procedure was. Instead of a simple "oh please leave the tank on the side - it shouldn't be in here - and i'll meet you there in a sec to help!" the cashier yelled at me to "get out of [her] store" and that she was "not trying to die today." I made an honest mistake by bringing the tank in with me, but the proper way to respond to this WAS NOT by lambasting the customer. I've worked in the service industry... I know it's not always sunshine and rainbows... but that's no excuse to treat me poorly. Politeness and class are free, but clearly even that's too expensive for this employee. read more

Brand new, this gas station has been slammed since their opening. Their prices are more than a nickel less than the BP across the street. It is by far the lowest priced station on the North Shore. They also have a nice convenience store with a ton of selections. This would easily be 5 stars if it weren't for the constant hoards of people that flock to the station. This is my new go-to place when visiting the parents. read more

Oh, the poor Shell station across the street. After years of ripping people off on gas, drinks, smokes, etc. They finally have some competition and I must say that Thorntons has it all. First, the gas is always cheaper than anything you will find in the area. Also, the variety of goodies inside make it worth the time to look around and see what you might fancy. The hot dogs are Ball Park Franks and always fresh with warm buns always . They have 69 cent soda with tons of variety and the crushed ice. Soft serve ice cream, freshly squeezed OJ and Lemonade. The coffee is always fresh and 89 cents for any size. It's tough to go in there and not buy any of the goodies. The staff is ultra nice which is a pleasure to find considering most people who work at gas stations cannot even speak English. Lots of parking and wide gas lanes. E-85 available also. read more

Why is the staff so friendly here? It almost scares me. I'm not used to anything like this on the North Shore. Download their app on your phone and get free stuff too. read more

They double charged me on purpose because my self serve ice cream cone was "too tall".

I usually fill up here due to the fact that my vehicle requires premium gas and this is the cheapest in,Highland Park. However, early this morning at 5:00AM when I filled up I was charged $12.00 for a car wash that I did NOT want! I had pressed NO when asked if I wanted a car wash! When I went inside the young man called to a young woman for help. She proceeded to tell me that I MUST go to the car wash! I replied that it must be a glitch in their system. She had an, "I am tired and don't care attitude! Then she told me to come back on,Monday, when a manager is there. I intend to do so as I don't care for her crappy attitude. So the next time I will simply pay inside! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

Gas for a fair price, always one of the lowest on gasbuddy, and a convenient store. Always the cheapest gas around and inexpensive drinks too

This is probably the worst gas station ever. Was there the other day, 4 cashiers 1 actually taking care of customers, the other 3 just talking amongst eachother, with 12 people in line! The people who work here are scum bags, rude, and smell like b.o. go to the shell across the street. Nice employees, clean gas station, and no lines! Large variety, all you can ask for, great service, may be the best gas station I've ever been to. Made my day.

Cheap gas, Cheap diesel, plenty of pumps. My hubby says he got substandard gas here one time, but I have never had an issue. The convenience store is superior to anything else on the North Shore. This location is the WORST!!! You ask to pay inside at the pump and you stand outside waiting for them to reset the pump so you can get your gas! After a while of waiting and pump not being reset you have to go walk inside and ask for pump to be reset so you can buy gas! This has happened many times and is frustrating! Then as you walk back inside to pay as I did today, there are at least 4 employees that I see but only 2 on the registers and one announces her register is only taking credit card customers. The line now has 10 people waiting to pay at the registers and they are all as frustrated as I am because it is taking forever to get to pay!! This is a more common experience then not! This location needs better leadership that will prioritize taking care of the customers in a timely manner. The wait time to pay is ridiculous and the pumps seem to be ignored because we always have to walk inside and ask them to turn it on because they don't do it otherwise! If you ring the assistance bell out by the pumps that goes unanswered and ignored as well. Very poor customer service! The Shell right across the street is 2cents more a gallon but service is great and very prompt! I'll be going there from now on! read more
