I've been coming to this Shell station for over 10 years and they've always accepted my car wash receipts that I've paid extra for but haven't used before the expire date but haven't had any problems until now. Some officious and racist girl at the attendant stand tells me I can't use it because it's expired. She tells me she doesn't have the code buttons to put in (her first excuse) then tells me she can't let me thru bcoz it's expired and she can't do anything about (causing a long line behind me while she argues with me and then says I should pay the difference) her second excuse. Then she says she needs to call her supervisor who tells her to take all my expired receipts (all paid car washes mind you) and take my license down so as to not let me get future car washes. (Seriously, all this for an $8 car wash) she then tells me that she'll let me go and to never come back because "We don't want your kind back here!" This is the racist comment that Just put me over so I tell her to F off. To make matters worse as soon as my car exits the car wash, this bald older a hole confronts me and screams at me as to why I made his employee cry and why I was screaming at her. I tell this douche that he needs to train his employees to not scream at customers and that his employee is a racist and said she didn't want my kind here! He tells me that his employee would never say that as if he witnessed the whole thing which he did not and just walks away. Nice job alienating a long time customer. Never more! Sure it's not a fancy schmancy car wash, but it did exactly what I needed it to. Why do I keep forgetting about this car wash by my house? After all the weird weather, back and forth with snow and rain, and soooo much dirt, I celebrated the first warm day of the year and treated our car to a bath. It was time. It was a simple bath, with no bells and whistles, but now I can drive around with dignity in the school drop off line. If you didn't know, there's a car wash in the back of Shell. It's hidden, unless you see the sign at the pump. The great thing is if you plan to use the car wash, you have two options. Pay at the pump and receive $.10 off each gallon of gas, or if you don't want gas you can head to the attendant at the car wash and pay for one of the following three options: * Regular wash $5 * Plus wash adds sealer wax and under carriage rust inhibitor $6 * Premium will get you wheel brightener and polish wax for $7 I take the cheap seats for $5 and haven't tried the upgrade services, but there is no extra tip to pay, so maybe next time. You are on your own here, and they do have interior vacuums available right around the corner from the wash. There is a yearly car wash plan available. They gave us an optional punch pass. After a few washes the next one is free! read more

I recently began coming to this Shell because it is super close to my work and they often have their gas priced much cheaper that other stations in the vicinity. nothing too exciting to write home about... quick, easy and convenient. The gas is often pretty cheap (though you can sometimes save a few cents per gallon across the street at Thornton's), and you can save a lot if you have bonus points after shopping at Jewel using the partner program. Their pumps all seem to operate well, which is more than I can say for some of the gas stations just a little to the west on Waukegan Rd., and I appreciate that they have a large canopy to keep you dry while pumping. They have a nice car wash, and you can save on gas if you buy the wash at the pump. It's a tunnel-style car wash that does a good job on both of my vehicles. It's probably my second-favorite automatic wash in the area (just behind the small 24 hour Ryko SoftGloss MAXX 5 automatic system at the Eden's Mobil on the southwest corner of 41 and Half Day). While the North Shore Shell station is open 24 hours, their wash is only open 7am ~ 8pm. As far as amenities, they have about what one could expect. The vacuums and air pump are behind the shop, alongside the car wash tunnel. There's more parking behind and beside the market. They're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the attendants are all very friendly. About the only thing keeping me from giving them the 5 stars is that their market is a bit small, and doesn't have the variety of the the other gas stations off of 41. They have a hot bar, but it's never open when I go at night. They still have a good selection of cold items you can microwave, snacks, and a bunch of drinks - it's just hard to compete in this regard to the newer Thornton's across the way, the larger Shell on Park Ave. and 41, or the newly-renovated Mobil on the northeast corner of Half Day and 41 (though stay away from their car wash tunnel, which seems to have calibration problems). When I have a rewards balance, I come here to fill up my tank and get a quick wash, but the rest of the time I usually go to one of the other larger stations for my late-night shopping needs and facilities. read more

My go to place for gas and a car wash. You'll get 10 cents off the price of gas if you buy a car wash and if you buy gas they'll give you a buck off the price of a wash. Decent wash for $4 bucks. It gets the nasty winter salt off you're ride and you don't have to get out of the car. read more

Busy gas station. Most of the staff seems to act as though they're too busy to be bothered. Be prepared to deal with panhandlers at this location. It is a constant daily issue here. On the other hand, the station is always clean and has a wide selection of snacks, drinks and coffee. The car wash is a good bonus but there's usually too many vehicles to try to maneuver around the lot or the car wash. read more

FREE air to pump your tires, no joke? What will I do with all my quarters now? Oh right, city parking meters. Yeah, so that: free air! (Not that air shouldn't be free anyway, it's, um, air, but most places want to eat your quarters for it.) Cheapish gas! (i.e. outside the city) Courteous workers! Both day and night crews are very friendly, quite a jovial atmosphere for a gas station. They usually have discounted cigarettes on top of having lake county taxes instead of the much higher cook county taxes. This is my place to go for an automatic car wash. I hand finish the wash and vacuum it myself but for the outside at the premium wash at only $7.00 you can't go wrong. And it only takes a few minutes. Vacuum is only $1.00 for 5 minutes. Always clean place inside and out with very friendly staff. I recently went to purchase a pack of cigarettes at this station, and was disrespected by one of the cashiers. This was by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I had a discrepancy over coupons that was ultimately handled, but after I had paid, one cashier threw a pack of matches at me saying, "here have some free matches while you're at it." As I was leaving the same cashier says, "don't make this a federal case." He continued to mock me as I left. I will no longer go to this station. The attendant at the car wash had a lousy attitude and was belligerent, saying "wait" while motioning me forward, then yelling at me that I wasn't listening. Maybe this was the same rude attendant that Marcus H. wrote about earlier this month. The layout of this Shell is also the worst - cars coming from all directions, no real flow. Always congested at the pumps! Most of the time if you hang back you can find a spot to slide in though, this location has LOTS of pumps. It does annoy me that they have the little tv screens at the pumps talking to me about all kinds of things they want me to buy, etc. Thank goodness I can set the pump and escape in my car. I get enough of that on my own tv, thank you very much. This location is clean and well stocked and has a car wash. The location at the corner of lake cook and skokie rd is very convenient. read more

The sandwiches are pretty bomb here. The staff is generally pretty nice. Its usually a little more expensive than thorntons across the street for gas, but only a couple cents an their food is better here. read more

No gas station is spectacular, but when you need gas for your car, North Shore Shell is the place to go. It is fairly clean, there are lots of pumps, and my favorite thing about this shell is that it is located right by lake road which is the main road that a lot of people use to get to places on the north shore. read more

Nice, large modern station. Plenty of pumps, but often crowded because it's the first station over the Cook County line, and gas costs enough without paying Cook County taxes, right? Pumps are a bit slow with the new computers. Car wash is decent and reasonable at $4 with gas. Note, if you use this station, afterwards you're pretty much committed to traveling South on Skokie Blvd or West on Lake-Cook when traffic is normal to heavy. read more
