I had fears of an eye infection, and sought out an ophthalmologist. Based solely on Michelle's…read morereview I checked out the training of Dr. Lindsey and found we both attended the same med school. That was enough for me. I scheduled an appointment (I was able to be seen the next day) and the visit went smoothly. The office staff was friendly and efficient, and Dr. Lindsey was delightful. Every good thing Michelle said about Dr. Lindsey was true for me, too. We had a good time chatting about faculty we knew in common. My fears of an eye infection were groundless (my discomfort was most likely due to allergies so she gave me some eyedrops). I had her do a full refraction and eye exam since I was already there. She found my current eyeglass prescription was fine and didn't need to be changed, and that my eyes were perfectly healthy (she said they were likely the healthiest she'd see all day). I'll see her again in a year, and look forward to it. If you need an ophthalmologist who is well-trained in diseases of the eye as well as the normal eyeglass and contact lens fitting, then I recommend Dr. Lindsey. Other physicians who are members of the group practice (The Eye Institute of Austin) appear to be equally stellar in their pedigrees.

She listens well and proposes workable solutions for every little complaint - like loading me up with samples of various eye drops to try with my finicky gas permeable lenses. Her staff is excellent, as well, and for as long as I've been seeing her, she's had the same assistant, the same optometrist, the same contact lens expert - the longevity in this office just says something. Also, she hates waiting at the doctor's office, so she works hard to stay on schedule, which I so appreciate. Doctors who realize that their patients' time is valuable, too, are much too rare. I'd recommend Dr. Lindsey without reservation.

And unless my memory is failing, his father (Dr. Mitchel Wong) treated my mother's cataracts in the 1980s. I have always been impressed by the state-of-the-art skills and equipment Austin Eye maintains. I'm also impressed that the Wongs have chosen to share their expertise by endowing an eye institute at the University of Texas at Austin. My most recent personal experience with Austin Eye was surgery for lens replacement. While some have derided the facility on Bee Caves Rd as factory-like, I would counter that with the fact that consistent good practices yield consistently good results. I felt well cared for throughout the process, and the results (my excellent recovery and visual acuity) speak for themselves. In the event there had been any problems, I was given Dr. Wong's direct cell number and email. The Austin Eye facility is beautiful, modern, and well-maintained. The same may be said of the older location along Jollyville Rd. I highly recommend Austin Eye for their expertise, state-of-the-art equipment set, and very positive and helpful office staff.

I had problems leaving my glowing review on a different website, so I'll try to leave it here…read moreinstead: My first experience at Austin Eye Center was 100 out of 100. Sabrina (the assistant at the front desk) could not have been nicer, so my initial impression was excellent right as I walked inside the practice. She was warm, funny, accommodating, understanding, and professional. And as others have said, the office is immaculate. It's extremely calming and classy. Dr. Makkouk was as amazing as his many, many 5-stars indicate. I have an extremely complex retina and/or neurological issue that several other doctors have, frankly, "passed the buck" on. I just really wanted to be able to tell my story, including the myriad variables that are potentially at play, and have a doctor try to brainstorm with me. Dr. Makkouk was SO patient and did just that - ranked the possibilities in order of likelihood according to his professional opinion. This meant the world to me, and I really could understand his solid thought processes because he explained things so well. He also offered to closely work with my other doctors and confirmed what he thought were the best next steps. For all of his extremely impressive credentials and education, he could have been arrogant and/or dismissive, but he was the opposite. He genuinely wanted to help. I could go on and on about all the positives of his listening skills, demeanor, professionalism, etc. The gentleman who was with Dr. Makkouk before me came out with the doctor and said something to the effect of, "You are a fine young man." I concur, sir!

After a very negative experience with another provider, I went back to my regular eye doctor, who…read morereferred me to Eye Physicians of Austin. I'm so happy she did. From the beginning, the experience was great. Communication before my appointment was clear, the office was easy to find with plenty of parking, and the clinic was clean, comfortable, and had ample seating. The staff completed all of the standard testing before I met with the doctor, and everything moved along efficiently. I saw Dr. Haumith Khan-Farooqi, and he was fantastic. He was kind, friendly, engaging, and listened to my concerns. I never felt dismissed or rushed. He explained my diagnosis, why surgery was recommended and what the next steps would be. As someone with anxiety, I really appreciated that he didn't brush off my concerns. Instead, he took the time to explain his experience with the procedure. That conversation really put me at ease, and I felt confident scheduling my pre-op appointment before I left. I was offered a sample of dry eye drops and a pair of sunglasses after my eyes were dilated (at checkout), neither of which had been offered at the previous provider. The front desk staff was very upfront about costs. They explained what their office would bill for and gave me the contact information, along with the diagnosis codes, so I could call the surgery center and anesthesiologist directly to get estimates for those costs. I really appreciated that transparency because I like to be an informed consumer and understand my financial responsibility before moving forward. My only suggestion is that after your eyes are dilated, you'll wait in a pretty bright waiting room. I recommend bringing your sunglasses inside with you just in case you have an extended wait in the waiting room. I accidentally left mine in the car so I sat with my eyes closed. This was the complete opposite of my previous experience. I left feeling heard, informed, respected, and confident in my care. I highly recommend Dr. Haumith Khan-Farooqi and the team at Eye Physicians of Austin.
