This place is not for us. It may have been just a bad night...but....we drove in and grabbed a menu to order some take out. There was only one table filled - so we should have taken the hint. We picked Beef Masaman, Pad Thai - Vegetable, and some App's for a quick meal. After we ordered and paid $55.20 the hostess said it will be 45 minutes to an hour. Which we said, oh thank you, sorry about that, please do cancel the order. She said, oh let me check with the kitchen and came back after 5 minutes and said it will be 10 minutes. What? Hmmmm.... It was 'ok'. Started off on the wrong foot. Online (and Yelp) said they open at 3:00pm. Got there, but they opened at 4:00pm.... We went shopping to kill some time, and came back after 4:00. Very polite and friendly staff. Ordered the fried fish balls as appetizers, then papaya salad (Som Tum) and Hot & Crazy Noodles. We ask that the papaya salad and Noodles be Thai Spicy. 10 stars out of 10.... Well, the papaya salad was spicy. Maybe a 7 or 8 on the tolerance scale. But the Noodles were barely spicy at all. And the fresh noodles were all stuck together, showing that the cook didn't take time to do it right and separate the layers before cooking them. The restaurant itself is in a small strip mall (same one as Yoshimama Japanese restaurant). Barely enough parking..... Inside the restaurant it looks old and dirty. We love this restaurant. The food is great and the service is very good. It is privately owned and operated by a Thai family and the staff is friendly and helpful. Located in a little strip mall, this restaurant does a brisk business during lunch with the workers from nearby businesses. As for the food, it is authentic Thai with all of the right spices. The next time we go I will take some pictures because they spend a lot of effort on the food presentation. We have never been for dinner but they seem to have the same menu for lunch and dinner. Thon Khao is the benchmark by which I measure all southern New Hampshire Thai food. Their Cashew Chicken in particular is a '10', head and shoulders above most others I've had, and I also enjoy their Chicken Kra Pow and Pad Thai. Thon Khao's lunch specials are a good deal, decent sized portions with an appetizer - I really like their dumplings - and soup or salad. I used to work nearby and would enjoy lunch there weekly. Now it's a longer drive, but when I do make it for lunch I'll often also order a meal to go for later - it's that yummy. I came here with my friend after a hike, so we were really hungry. The owner of the restaurant was nice and attentive. The decor was simple and the booths and carpet really needed an update. We ordered a pad thai, beef noodle soup and fried ice cream. The food came out quickly and tasted fresh. Their pad thai was tasty, you know the restaurant is legit when they can make this basic dish. The soup was delicious! We asked for it to be spicy and they seasoned it perfectly. The beef was thinly sliced. The best part of the meal was their fried ice cream! It could possibly be the best I've had. The batter was crispy but soft. I've had fried ice cream before with thick and frozen crusts, which is difficult to eat. One of the best Thai restaurants in the country! I've eaten Thai from coast to coast and for a great little restaurant with friendly owners this place can't be beat. It's one of the major reasons I wanted to move back to Nashua as there was no Thai restaurant anywhere near where I was living in Montana. My fav dishes are the fresh rolls of course, but I think they do the best Tom Kai Gai soup around, Pad Thai is great, but I usually order the Massaman Curry Chicken. I've been going to this place for about a year now. The food is consistently good and the service is always great. If you go, you can expect an informal, yet calm and quiet, atmosphere. A husband and wife team run the place. Their two children are often hanging out in the dining room, watching Hannah Montana or playing on a laptop. The dining room is well-lit and spacious - since they do a lot of takeout business, there are always plenty of tables available. Feel free to ask questions about the menu or request modifications to the dishes - the server, the wife of the couple, is always very friendly and helpful. Innnnnnteresting.... - The kra pow chicken is delicious. It was hot/spicy like a mother!@#$&! I LOVED it. The one negative is that they served this minced stir-fry on a plate garnished with iceberg lettuce. That lettuce went limp with the heat and got mixed in while serving the dish. I spent some time picking out the warm limp iceberg. Ick. - The steamed dumplings were okay. - The service was varied. We had about four different people come to our table for different things. Obviously its family run so thats ok. They were attentive with the food but took a little too long to get the check. They also initially forgot the dipping sauce for the dumplings which I thought would be a no-brainer. - The other patrons were OFF THE HOOK. In one booth there was an older couple who asked a barrage of excruciating questions about every single dish. The young caucasian abercrombie model-looking waiter was patient and helpful....if I was in his position, I would've stabbed the woman in the eye with a fork. At another booth, an older woman with her adult son were seated. It was obvious they are regulars. The older woman tells the waitress "I'm 75 years old, I work at the Salvation Army and I need to get drunk!". I almost spit water all over my table hearing this! She proceeded to order wine, an appetizer.... AND the caucasian abercrombie model-looking waiter! .... like.... straight up cougar style... "I'll have some of him, he's cute" !!!! The adult son was clearly embarrassed but the whole situation was HILARIOUS! To sum the whole experience up in one word........ MEMORABLE. read more

I've tried the yellow and green curries, both with chicken, and they were amazing. If you've never had a Thai curry before, I recommend both, but maybe start with the yellow. ***Don't confuse it with Indian curry. It's not even close to the same thing. I really wanted to love this place, but 2 stars are all I can muster for this review. While the staff is super friendly and attentive and the prices are beyond reasonable, the food was just ok. We ordered the Pad Thai and ginger shrimp. The shrimp in the Ginger shrimp dish was not fresh and the dish itself was dry, almost no ginger sauce. I will say that the veggies in the shrimp dish were delicious and very fresh! The Pad Thai was not pleasing to the eye at all, but had a lot more flavor than the ginger shrimp. Cute little place with very clean bathroom which is a huge deal for me....fast lunch service which is convenient when getting quick lunch on a work day, nice prices, my general tso chicken with rice and spring roll was only $8 before tax and ready in less than 10. The only problem came in where customer service was involved, kinda rude and rushed hostess who seemed to serve people who looked a certain way first while ignoring others who were ahead in line. There was an molder lady who was extremely sweet and the younger one could learn somethings from her. Food was good and fresh but was waaayyyyyy to sweet, no other flavor just sugar, no tangyness to balance the overwhelming taste, I didn't like this part, had to go to a store and buy some vinegar and soy sauce to make it decent and balanced, that could use some improvement...generally not a bad place for quick meal read more

Went last night, a Sunday, at 6:00pm. Granted, maybe they had their "C" team on for a dead night, but we had a not-so-good experience. (1) It was completely deserted - no customers - but we were sat at the table next to the hallway to the kitchen, so our view was a pile of old dirty junk piled in the hall. (2) Some new customers came awhile later, and they were sat right next to us. ??!! In a completely empty restaurant, why were we on top of one another, having to scoot our chairs and hear each other's conversations? (3) No music... wierdly quiet and echo-y - we could hear the chef chopping something in the kitchen. (4) Verrrrrry sloooow service - had to ask for our bill when our food finally arrived, so we wouldn't be late for the movie. Had to ask for our water to be refilled. (5) Very unpersonable service... "C" team was a bunch of young boys... no hospitality, very apathetic. (6) And the food.... was just blah... nothing special. Seemed underseasoned? Just nothing to get excited about. There were five of us, each got a different dish, and not one of us five were very impressed by what we ate. I had a special - Seafood Pad Thai - and was just edible, that's all. One of the other eaters in my party complained that her food was very salty. A third said her sauce was 'off' and watery. (And no, we are not novices at eating Thai food.) I love thai food, so when I moved to Nashua I was really hoping Thon Khao could scratch my itch. I've had take-out several times, and it really hasn't gone well. The issues are various. The first time I ordered the Hot and Crazy Noodles, after seeing it recommended here, I received noodles with the complete absence of heat. Staples Pad Thai and Pad See Yew are okay, but something always seemed to be missing. The noodles they use in these dishes are different than I've had elsewhere, but there was also a flavor missing. The last time I patronized, I went for the Hot and Crazy Noodles again. This time I made sure to ask about the heat level, and that part of my order worked out quite well. In a shocking turn of events, however, my Hot and Crazy Noodles were extra crazy - just not like I'd hoped: there were no noodles. This lack of quality control is absurd. On the bright side, the people are very pleasant and the Kratong Tong appetizer is delicious. Also, if you eat in the restaurant instead of taking out, I'm sure you can simply point out that you have no noodles and have that quickly rectified. read more
