Every time I've been in the store, I've been either the only customer or one of the only customers…read more The store seems to always be empty, which isn't that surprising given the things I've noticed, as I'll describe below. For starters, the prices are pretty mediocre to be blunt. For instance, a Yamaha R-S300 is $299.99 on their boxing day sale, but regular $250 on Amazon.ca. This trend continues throughout their product line, with their sale prices consistently equal to or higher than some other stores' regular prices. The employees' knowledge is surely more than the average Best Buy employees' knowledge, but even then sometimes I felt as if they were reciting what they read on the product description. It's not all bad, though. Unless you go to a dedicated hifi store, you're not going to find a lot of mid to high end audio equipment, which is where 2001 seems to hold an edge. Brands like KEF and Paradigm aren't available at most chain stores, so it's nice to be able to go in and audition them without the pressure that some hifi stores put on you (I feel like I'm a criminal every time I go into a hifi store when I'm just there to audition stuff with no real intention of buying). A few times I've gone in and flat out told the employees I'm just looking and that I'm not interested in purchasing anything today, and they still let me audition multiple speakers and receivers, which I felt was nice. I'd recommend going here to audition equipment as they have a bit of variety in terms of speakers and receivers, but unless you want the product that day and/or the price is on par with competitors, buy from somewhere else.

Places like Stereo Advantage just feel way to corporate when it comes to old electronics. I wanted a hands-on approach by someone who lived and breathed the repairs of old electronics. This is exactly what I got with Precision Audio Service. I walked into the front door and was overwhelmed by stacks of old stereos and other devices. It actually reminded me of my own work space when I was repairing/rebuilding computers. I knew right away that I had found the right place. The owner (Jeff -- sorry if you spell it Geoff), came out and greeted me. I told him what I had and what was wrong with it and he said he would be able to fix it. A handshake sealed the deal. I left and quickly returned with my old stereo unit. He attacked the repairs in 1 day. Fixing a variety of things that were wrong with it (fuses, springs, general cleaning, etc). The final cost was very reasonable. The attention to detail, quality of the repair, and speed of service were well worth the price. My old record player is back to playing the sweet sounds of vinyl! This place can be a bit tricky to get to because you can't go across the street from Brompton road. I recommend you come up Main st., headed towards Transit, and make a right into the private parking lot. The entrance is the door all the way on the right. Businesses like these are slowly going away. They need our support to survive! Give this shop a chance for your next retro repair. You won't regret it, I didn't.

I also needed a company to install AND issue a warranty with their product(s). Like most people, I searched the internet...and got completely saturated!!! Tons of cheap off shore crap with very little, if any back up. American companies with good systems but no Canadian maps for their nav' systems...and on and on!!! I checked out Gibby's with local people I work with and received no negative comments. I spoke with Roland at Gibby's and liked what I heard. I took the 40 minute drive to the store and spoke with Roland and other staff members...Everyone made our visit feel good. I decided to buy and have installed an Alpine INE-W960HDMI DVD/GPS Navigation Receiver With SiriusXM...(a system that I had previously checked out on line and had ear marked). VERDICT: I am very happy with my choice of system, (Alpine INE-W960HDMI DVD/GPS Navigation Receiver With SiriusXM) and with the installation done by Gibby's staff. Owned and operated by a husband and wife, and along with their capable staff, you feel their passion for audio excellence as you walk through the store and talk with them. This is the finest example of a high end audio retailer that I have found in my 40+ years of buying audio. They genuinely care about their clients and they really know their products. Odd company. Spoke with owner Jamie on the phone 4 days ago who told me to send him pics of my…read moreprojector (which needs replacing) and other info about updating my setup to C4. He said he's booking 3 weeks out, which is fair enough. But I requested he please provide me with a firm date 3 weeks from now so I could schedule time off/arrange with JVC to get the new projector (which was off the warranty so the service manager is doing me a huge favour). He agreed. No reply. Next day, no reply. Third day, I called and left a voicemail. I also texted him and told him to please call me with a date to confirm. No reply. The odd thing is on the phone in our initial conversation, he assured me customer service was his priority and he always gets back to everyone on time. That's demonstrably not true. So be warned. I want to work with an AV/Home Theatre company that gets back to you in a timely fashion, within 24 hrs. Nobody wants to be ghosted by their home theatre guys. It's been 4 days and nothing. Good thing I didn't give him my business! He clearly doesn't need it.
