Thomas Auto Repair

With his very, very small shop behind the Chevron station, Thomas got my car serviced and ready to pass smog within one day and at a great price! He doesn't take appointments - first come first serve - but it seems like he is reasonable and reliable. I'll be bringing my car back to him!

It's on 16th St. and Los Angeles St. Look out for this building.

Owner was kind enough to run the check engine diagnostic and advise free of charge. Thank you!

My Tacoma which I've had since it was new 18 years ago started making some weird noise that I…read morecouldn't figure out what it was from. I took it in to a place AAA recommended in downtown LA and explain the issue. They told me I needed a new timing chain along with a whole bunch of other stuff and quotes me $4800 for it. This was preceded with a lot of scare tactics on what will happen if I don't have the work done, which came across as very used car salesman-ish. When I ran the quote through ChatGPT I was told they were charging me dealership pricing for an independent mechanic for that type of work in LA. So I brought the truck here to Speedway where I had Minor worked done before and had a good experience. They told me my bearings need to be replaced and did the work for lesson than a quarter of the price I was quoted at the other mechanic. Work was finished in a day and the truck has been running perfectly since then. Had I spent to 4800 at the place it wouldn't have even resolved the issue, which means I would've had to come out of the pocket even more after the initial work was done. Obviously a truck of this age is gonna have some problems and when they inevitably happen again I will be back here at Speedway to take care of them. Highly recommend this place for integrity, quality, efficiency and fair pricing.

He was 1000 percent honest and was not tying to gouache me. Mike was also very professional and informative. I sat around and watched him explain things to customers. Was impressed that I went ahead and bought my new tires for my car while I was there. The work was fast and everyone was efficient. Would recommend 1000 percent

We had a back fender replaced, front mirror and door handle all fixed. He even was able to deliver (drop off my car) since I didn't have a ride. Everything was very well done. I'd recommend them again.

Was hoping I had found a reputable mechanic, but I was wrong. Originally visited business to get…read moremy brakes fixed. Mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated I only needed to replace front pads and that everything else was fine. The cost of repairs was cheaper than other shops I've called or inquired about. However after about a couple weeks I started to hear some feint noises from the wheels when driving at slow speeds (ie: parking garage). Went back to the shop and the mechanic said there was nothing wrong and that noises were "normal." A few weeks after that I went to another franchise repair shop and the diagnosis was that front & rear rotors were warped and beyond shaving/repair. Obviously rear pads need to be replaced but what burned was that brand new front pads needed to go as well. Contacted business owner to explain the situation and also give him a chance to make things right. Told me to come by the shop but when I went he wasn't there. Was told to wait because he was "on the way.." but never met him. Again the mechanic inspected the vehicle and said I was hearing things and that everything was fine. Fast forward to today my brakes squeal constantly and I'm still searching for a dependable mechanic with reasonable prices. Definitely will not recommend this shop!!!

I spoke with Manuel and he looked at my brakes and said only the front needed to be replaced. He told me it would cost $380. I asked how about If I buy the brakes myself how much for labor? He said $140. I bought the brakes for $60 and showed up today to have them install installed. Once they were done and I went to pay, I wanted to pay $150 to include a tip. I was told that I could pay with Zelle, but Zelle charged a fee of $5. I already know that Zelle is free so I told him that. He lied to my face and said that he's charged a fee. So I tried to pay $150 & he told me no they wouldn't receive the tip. SMH was very stupid. So I paid $145 & left. Saved myself $5 on the tip. What I know happened is that they were trying to Charge me an extra five dollars for a tip because they didn't think I was gonna give one. The customer service there is not the best. I feel like they were very racist and were not very polite to me. They were cordial and pleasant with all of their other customers, but dry, dismissive and uncommunicative with me. I think it would be behoove them in the future to treat every customer with respect. And not lie about payment methods because I am an informed customer who pays with multiple apps. I know which one's charge and which ones don't. So they cut their own selves out of a tip today. I hate liars & racism, all for an extra $5. Anyone can Google it right now and see that Zelle is free.. I just didn't wanna argue with him. He cut himself out of an extra five bucks (because I was gonna give a $10 tip) by being a petty racist liar. That's how racism backfires lol.
