We've dealt with contractors in the past for the construction of both a garage and a sunroom. Although the finished product in each case was good, there were many hiccups and headaches along the way. We encountered a range of the "typical" issues with each company/job, including horrible communication; unexpected, undesired, and unannounced design changes; pricing that left the "ballpark" we had been provided; workers unnecessarily entering our home when we weren't there; scheduling delays... the list goes on. So when we decided to finish our basement, we figured it would be more of the same. Enter Halfmoon Handyman and owner JD. JD was the first to respond to our inquiry, although we did have multiple companies come over to provide opinions/estimates. JD was incredibly thoughtful when examining the space. He really took the time to listen to want we wanted. In fact, when we invited him back once more before making a decision, he recited every detail he was provided during his first visit without the use of notes or a drawing. When his price was as good or better than the others we received, we decided to go with him based on his professional manner, attention to detail, and superior communication skills. All the qualities that landed JD the job in the first place remained at the forefront of our experience working with him. He was meticulous in his planning and preparation of the space, really thinking through the best and most aesthetically pleasing way to frame around headers/wires/pipes/etc. He regarded our project with a superior level of care and consideration, treating the job as if it were his own home. It was clear the qualtity of the work truly mattered to him. JD provided regular updates regard current progress and the timeline moving forward. He always planned ahead, so there were never any hangups/holdups based on missing or delayed materials. His time estimates were always very accurate. One of the primary reasons we believe the process was ultimately so seamless and smooth is that JD was on site essentially every day. Our project received the fullest measure of his time and attention. The crew was timely, knowledgeable, kind, and extremely efficient. They had great suggestions for us based on their extensive experience in construction. They also cleaned up the worksite at the end of every day. We simply cannot overstate how wonderful JD and his company was to work with. We would highly recommend him (and already have to friends and family members) and would absolutely use him again for any (and all) future home projects.

My husband and I highly recommend work done by Saratoga Lake Handyman (a.k.a. Darrell). Darrell…read moreaccepted the challenge of fully remodeling our kitchen and knocked it out of the park! Our home is well over a century old - not a straight wall or level floor in the place. After removing all to be replaced, he was able to straighten those walls and fix the floor, prep and paint, install all new cabinetry, hang two new doors where bi-folds had been and created an exterior vent for the new over-the-stove microwave unit. When Darrell ran into unexpected issues (because, old house), he consulted with us to troubleshoot possible approaches to fixes and, when we arrived at a best approach, that's the action he took - all to our satisfaction. And that's at the core of what we loved about working with Darrell; he's not happy unless we were happy with his work, not satisfied until we were satisfied. He routinely checked in with us throughout his process to make sure he was meeting this goal. We were happy and satisfied with his work throughout; he maintains a high standard in his work with great attention to detail. He always communicated his work schedule, making sure that it worked for us as well and he was always true to that schedule. He keeps a very clean worksite - he always tidied up the workspace before leaving each day. He'll be my first call for any future home construction needs. Clearly, we're fans of his work and you will be too!

It was binding and dragging on the threshold at all times and especially impossible to shut in the summer when swollen with humidity. This is a really beautiful and heavy 80-year-old legacy wooden door and I wanted to keep it. Just a door, not a big problem to fix, you might say. But you'd be mistaken. Most companies wanted to tear out the whole door, frame included, and replace it with a new steel one. No thanks. Other handymen wanted to tear out and then replace the frame/jamb and rehang the door; lots of demolition work, and expensive. And then came Anthony and Carrie of Squirrel Squad. They were totally on my wavelength: save the door, no unnecessary demolition, and *fix the problem*. Anthony showed up with Harry, raised and then reseated the three hinges, and in under two hours the door was saved, opening and shutting like a dream. Like all true experts, they made a problematic job look easy. Their skill set and level of expertise is amazing. I was also humbled by how reasonably they priced the job. I have at least three more projects to complete before year's end and will gladly and confidently hire Squirrel Squad for all of them. Sincerely, look no further. After calling roofing company after roofing company and hearing only…read morethe most unaffordable prices imaginable to fix my roof's ridge vent and some fascia that was falling off, I finally found MIke! I could tell right away that his prices would be reasonable because when I asked him how much he'd charge for repairing the fascia alone, he didn't charge me the $1200 or $2000 minimum that other companies were charging - just to nail back in the fascia! Not only are his prices much, much better, but he's very prompt and great at communicating. He shows up when he says he will. He calls and keeps in contact if he's going to be a little bit later. On top of that, he works with his son, Nick, and their teamwork is impressive to watch! They work extremely well together, they have high standards, and their manner towards each other is so pleasant that it makes the entire experience a very positive one. It was quite a sight to see Mike working on the fascia from the ladder while Nick was simultaneously working on the same piece of fascia while lying on the edge of the roof and holding it in place. They were extremely careful, skillful, good-natured, professional, friendly, and serious about doing a great job. Their work on fixing the fascia was much better than a handyman team that fixed my front fascia a few years ago and left it bumpy and with nails in the front rather than on the underside. They replaced the awful ridge vent I had - 6 inches across - with one that was 14 inches across - a much more intelligent design for keeping wind from blowing rain right into the attic. They matched the color of the vent, as well, to match my green roof! I don't know why the former roofer sold me that awful ridge vent. How can a ridge vent like that keep humidity out of your attic if it's letting in rain? I can't say enough good things about Mike's Roofing. There was not one thing I didn't like about their work and their manner. They were even careful of the wild rabbits in our yard - careful not to drop anything on them. And MIke even cheerfully put up with the jungle of tall shrubs he had to climb through - and prickers - to access the fascia. It feels great to have a solid roof over our heads again and no more leaks coming through our ceiling! Thank you so very much, Mike and Nick!
