The first time I went to the Thirsty Turtle was 15 years ago to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers game with 2 of my fellow Steelers fans. This is THE best place in town to hang out with friends any day of the week, not just on game day. The bartenders and servers are very friendly and the service is definitely on point, even when the place is packed they get to you as quickly as possible. The food there is not your typical bar food either. The burgers and sandwiches are out of this world!! I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and I promise that you haven't lived until you taste Yankee food, and the food at The Turtle made me so homesick I almost wept. This place has been firmly on my radar for the last six months, I just moved here. My honey and I decided to come here for a random dinner after work one day. It's super easy to miss if you're not looking, as there's no real store signage outside. Over the years I've heard this was one of the best burgers in town and just a solid hole in the wall, neighborhood type joint. Well, they weren't wrong. It's a seat yourself kinda place yet, it's full table service. It's much larger than you'd think inside as well. Arcade games, darts, pool tables are all inside along with a large screen TV and multiple other TV's. I imagine this is a solid spot for watching your teams. We got their menu's (food & drink) and took a hot minute to make our choices. Thankfully, our server and his trainee (the owners niece) were super patient and helpful along the way. They have super cheap draft beers but sadly, none were to my preference. That said, they had a number of cans/bottles of the local/regional craft variety and we enjoyed a few of those. I honestly can't recall what Amber got but she enjoyed it. I got the bacon cheeseburger and it was quite good. Burgers are just one of those things that are very much about preference. Having lived in Austin for a number of years and it being a HUGE burger town, my expectations can be somewhat lofty. There was absolutely nothing offensive about their burger, I think I've had ones I've enjoyed more elsewhere in town. The prices and portions can't be beat though! Regular group of 10 at one table watching football. I was there late. A little hard to find it's in the corner of a strip center and you can enter it from the backside as well as front, which Google maps took me to the back. Staff was very friendly the menu is extensive for a bar my food was great I was very pleased visiting from out of town. I was not disappointed. When you're leaving the strip center from the front part you're forced to turn right. There may be a light but I didn't see it so if you go out the back way you can turn left at the light. read more

This is a smokey locals joint where young and old come together for sports, darts, bar food, cold beer, cocktails, and shots. The smokey establishment has a jukebox and billiard tables if you get bored and are looking for a challenge or just want to let off some steam. The bartenders insist you sit at a table where they will bring you your drink of choice if you dont intend to sit at the bar. I dont particularly care for it as I like to deliver my own drink of choice to my own table the moment my drinks are made. Different strokes for different folks. *shoulder shrug* The food is pretty decent. I havent yet received any bad food here. The atmosphere is...what you make of it. Located in a plaza with many other food establishments and plenty of parking. The restrooms I will say are pungent and need a haulover, but it is a bar so....deal with it? Staff is pretty adequate. A lot of the reviews for this place are before they reopened last year. I've been before the remodel for drinks before and they definitely have the best priced beer in town! I've heard their burger is good but hadn't tried it out, partially due to the smoke cell that is no longer present. The burger is simple but one of the best in Huntsville. It was a pretty light Monday night in terms of people at the bar, but the service was great! Very laidback sports bar vibe. I could put my finger prints in it... that's gross ! I hate smelling like cigarettes so I had to change my litter when I got home. Hidden Gem!! We stopped by here because of the long wait at Drake's, and were pleasantly surprised. I got the fish & fries and it was amazing. The batter, the cod, the crinkle fries. ~chef's kiss! For two meals and four drinks it was around $50, so definitely affordable. The ONLY reason I would give 4 out of 5 stars is because you will absolutely walk out smelling like cigarette smoke- but that is part of the charm of this place! read more

Delicious food. Cold beer. Great prices. I crave their food and have to get takeout sometimes. I cannot go on enough about how good the food is! This is real deli sandwiches hot or cold as well as many other options. I would definitely suggest the turkey Reuben. The service is fantastic. They have awesome sizes of beer and great prices! This is not a craft beer place. Do not expect to have a large selection of craft beer on draft. I come here for lunch on Saturdays mostly. But I do occasionally find myself there late night, and it is still one of my favorite bars in Huntsville. There is obviously smoking inside, and that's the biggest downfall for me. If you don't want to be around cigarette smoke, you are fine going during the day for lunch. It is more smoky if you go later at night. read more

A friend brought us to this place after our first choice was too crowded, and I have to say this is not my type of place at all! There's no actual sign out front, and the inside is very dark and dingy. The smokey-ness is pretty serious, there were only maybe 20 people there when we walked in and I could barely handle the smoke (not to mention everything we were wearing needed cleaning afterwards). The staff was nice and our waitress was very attentive, but not super helpful when it came to drink choices (one person asked about one of the beer's on tap, and she couldn't really give us any more insight than the name of it). With the other bar options in town being what they are, this is definitely not a place I'd recommend. read more

My girlfriends and I went there for a birthday party and I asked for water and the waitress didn't hear me so I asked again, so I asked for water again and she got Really mad and said"I know, bitch, what water is". I have a cold and I didn't think she understood me, so I said it twice and she came unglued. I did not mean anything bad by ordering for watering twice. I just didn't think she heard me. The Thirsty Turtle is an amazing dive bar. It is truly a dive. It is a dark, dingy, smokey, secluded haven for the average working human. Every server I have had the pleasure of getting to know is a truly amazing person. If you can't stand smoke, then don't go the the turtle. However, just because this isn't your cup o' tea doesn't make it a 2 star bar. The turtle is absolutely fantastic. They love what they do and love you too, if you aren't a dingbat.
