Here's why we shop at McLean's: 1. OUTSTANDING customer service with people who know where things are, and KNOW how to get things done! I have asked so many questions, received so much good advice, and I am certain that our home wouldn't be as far along as it is today without the help of the men and women who work in this store. Joe, Gary, Nancy, Cathy, Terri, Kip, Jeremy, Jessica, Alyssa, Celina...the list goes on and on. They've even helped me find solutions, multiple times, that didn't require me spending a penny in store! 2. UNBELIEVABLE selection of products. They probably carry what you're looking for, and if not, they'll tell you where you can get it. (More than once I've been told to head to another store to get a product they didn't stock...who does that??). Whether it's lumber, hardware, tools, or some miscellaneous bolt that you need to prevent a barn door from sliding off its rails (for real!), they have it. 3. LOCAL employees, local owners, and this is a company that invests in the community. They hire a lot of teenagers and work with their school and sports schedules like few other companies do. One of our kids worked for them and we couldn't believe how well they paid her, and how graciously they worked with her athletic and academic schedules. Locally owned matters. 4. COMPETITIVE pricing to go with their significant inventory. Sure, you can occasionally save money on certain products by hitting up the big box stores, but not having to drive 35 minutes (each way), or not having to try and find someone to help answer your questions (seriously...McLean's staff are plentiful and their experience is unmatched!) is worth a few extra dollars. 5. FREE popcorn. yeah, if you were on the fence before you now have a reason to make this store your go-to for hardware and lumber. You can't be sad and eat popcorn at the same time. When I came into the store last week, I was viscously accosted by new appearing employee Otto who…read morecame running out of nowhere to scream, "I saw you on the cameras!" repeating it as his main assertion and privacy violation for a regular shopper who has spent thousands there over the past several years. "You were spraying the primer spray paint on the floor!" Mom and I were taken aback and he looked infuriated, seething and staring at me menacingly, then sneering. I observed his red eyes which I told him was because he was an angry man. I told him never was a warning given, my Mom added no note was there to indicate not to. She told him, perhaps next time you can give her a piece of cardboard to spray on so she knows the nozzle is working. He agreed verbally to do this next time. I told him that not even one time did I not purchase one of those cans which happened to be working. Last year, I had one or two returns when some nozzles were not at a critical time. Mom and I were very upset by his hostile encounter, she was indignant and outraged that he didn't ask politely but confronted me in such an abusive manner, and we shopped for the next cans of primer at Walmart where we observed other testers had made a sea of marks on the floor also testing them out. Instead of the agreement made by Otto, the store violated me again as I walked in the store today and was called out by the female manager Mikki at the register. She also repeated, "you were caught on camera!" angrily. She said I sprayed spray paint on the floor and was not allowed in the store anymore. She added, the police would be called. I promptly called the national number to report the situation and let her know a lawsuit of rights violation would be submitted along with this negative review. Not even one warning was given. Otto provided one and we agreed to abide by it. Otto also agreed to provide a piece of cardboard next time and did not hold to his arrangement to provide further neglect of duty. This goes along with inappropriate interactions with the customer and lack of being the friendly neighborhood hardware folks they used to pose as. They were inconsistent and did not stand behind their own agreements to violate the business-customer rules. I will upload a snippet of my lawsuit when finished where my rights were violated and I was lied to. This Ace should pay for my gas as I'm forced to go to the downtown Ace Hardware and I should be allowed to shop at the local hardware store convenient for me.

On entering, someone greets you and asks if you need help, and even if you don't it's not hard to find someone to help when you need it. Lot's of knowledgeable people. I've gone in many times to find supplies for my often quirky projects and there is always someone with helpful advice.

Family Farm & Home is a small chain catering to people who live in the country or on a farm and who…read morekeep livestock. It has the basic hardware supplies. Parts for tractors. Fencing materials. Supplies for dogs, cats, small pets ... but also horses, cows and other small livestock. I have a bad memory that has not faded much over time. I think this place opened back in 2006 or 7. When it opened, there were bulk dog biscuits for sale. We got some, and within a couple of weeks, meal worms hatched out of them. Ew! From a brand new store? They must have bought old stock from some other store. On my recent visit, I did not see any bulk dog biscuits, and not very many dog biscuits at all. I am very, very careful not to get anything with ingredients from China, so I didn't see anything that really attracted me. I did notice Blue Buffalo cat & dog food. Along with some more common kibbles. There were a lot of leashes and harnesses for cats & dogs. What I don't like is that whenever I'm in a store like this, I have to keep an eye on my dog, who loves to find fallen kibble on the floor. She doesn't have any allergies, but I still don't like the idea of her eating anything I can't identify. We usually stop in for hardware items. That's about all this place is good for, in my opinion. Being such a small town hardware store, one might underestimate the stock a store like this one…read morecontains. Don't judge before going inside! You'll be surprised to learn (especially if you look in the back parking lot as well) how much you can find here. Depending on the season, they have everything from bird fountains and lawn decorations to snow shovels and salt. There's even an entire paint section. (They mix colors for you as well.) Although several of the staff members are helpful, Tina is the best. She knows everything they have by heart and can lead you right to it with her eyes closed. She happens to be one of the owners; that might not hurt. If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask! They'll order it. They usually get it for you in about a week. Sadly, I don't live in the area anymore, so if you're stopping by the store, I'm jealous. Enjoy!

If your buying plants make sure they are for our zone even if they…read moreare perennial. they have fig plants and roses that are not for your climate in this part of michigan. if your buying mulch go for it its fine. if your buying lumber enjoy the hours of picking through and a large project is not fun there because of the lack of quality. dont try to return something even with a receipt the return people question you like you are trying to pull a fast one. if you buy flower pots fine, if you buy fence posts fine. dont buy water sprinklers every one i bought puked out within one or two uses. not cheap ones either. if you want a delivery plan on paying an arm and a leg for it. i sent in a rebate for 300 got back 35.00 and i understand now they hide the rebate form amongst adds for windows. home depot is by far better to navigate i can bring up the store and the app and find exactly which isle my item is in. that is something Costco should do too, but that is not Menards. Menards employees are great that is about all they have going for them from what i can see. i am very choosey when buying there because many items are sub par ...hence the cheaper price. you get what you pay for.

Home Depot I have it delivered to my door in 3 days . Just today another special order finally came in after a long wait to arrive. Tracked the order for 5 days it sat at the DC in Saginaw Mi. Cabinet parts came in . No boxes??? Cancelled the order for the cabinet boxes at that store . Made another order at the next closest store. Have to drive 60 miles North of me as they have them in stock .I buy alot of stuff from our local store ,as its conveniently located on my way in . But they really need to be better on there ordering system .
