Dr. Gavin doesn't even deserve the one star. Apparently Dr. Gavin is quite displeased with this review, as she has sent me a certified letter saying she no longer wishes to be my GP. Seems unnecessary, as I told her before leaving our last visit I wouldn't be coming back and would find a new one. Just more unprofessional behavior from this daft broad. Do yourself a favor and find someone better. read more

Dr. Gavin has been my PCP for almost 20 yrs and my daughter's, since she became an adult 9 yrs ago, as well. She is very knowledgeable about everything I've ever asked her. She listens to my concerns when I have problems and makes very reasonable suggestions and doesn't over-treat. When I go for my physicals, she makes sure I am up to date with my vaccines and recommended screening exams (mammo, colonoscopy, etc). I always get an appointment when I want one, within a day or two and she runs on time when I get there. She's compassionate, friendly and thorough. I could have access to cheaper healthcare insurance somewhere else but pay more for my current plan so I can stay with her. read more

I came into Dr. Gavin twice. Each time she just chalked up my condition to diet and exercise (when I am actually on a diet and have a trainer). The second time she didn't order any additional tests and just made it a 'me' problem. I finally had to get a second doctor, Dr. Stenberg, to help since I was so distraught. She ordered more tests and then sent me to a dermatologist. Luckily, the dermatologist immediately found the problem and I am on my way to correcting my medical issue. Had Dr. Gavin put in the time to help find the problem the first time, I would have been on my way to happiness months ago. read more

My wife went to Dr Gavin for a routine physical. At the request of the office, she filled out a form asking if she had any concerns, and entered two routine issues. The result was Dr Gavin billed us for 2 service codes, not just the physical, which insurance did not cover. This is fraud and entrapment. No one disclosed that if my wife complied with a request presented to her as part of an annual checkup, we would get billed for additional services (which were not even provided, all that Dr Gavin did was read the form and no treatment was performed). So - don't go to this doctor, and probably this whole office. I am not a lawyer but in my opinion, this is medical fraud. read more

I have been very pleased with Dr. Gavin and her care team. Scheduling is very easy and they respond to online messages very quickly! Dr. Gavin is a good listener and very level headed. She does not "over prescribe" or do costly, unnecessary tests (unless asked!) which I really appreciate. The way the Los Altos Center is set up is convenient in case you need to have any blood drawn or analysis done, and she uploads any results right away to your online profile. I was driven to write this review when, after a prescription was 7 days late in the mail, the care team immediately responded to my online message and called in an extra 30 day supply so I would have it for a vacation. Didn't even give me time to sweat. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Gavin and the Sutter Health/PAMF if you're looking to switch physicians anytime soon. read more

Dr. Theresa Gavin has been my son's doctor for over 10 plus years. My son has multiple challenges including autism. Dr. Gavin is an excellent physician who listens and makes great suggestions. Dr. Gavin has a heart that beats with compassion and my son feels it. My son looks forward to his appointments with Dr. Gavin. She truly cares about her patients. Very professional, knowledgable and personable. Thorough, efficient and genuine. She keeps to a precise schedule and I was reminded twice by her assistant that if you're late to your appointment, you may have to wait or reschedule. Dr. Gavin is an excellent primary care doc. She seems very current on her medical knowledge, she listens, and she asks questions. She booked a half hour for my physical and check up and I felt like all my concerns were addressed. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation seems to run very smoothly and I highly recommend it. read more

Worst doctor I've ever encountered. Didn't even send me my test results or upload them when they came in. I had to ask. Then charged me for two visits when I came in for a physical saying she treated me for constipation. I thought we were going over my medical history since I'm a new patient, didn't realize she was "treating" me. Who charges patients $200 just to tell them they should take benefiber? She was very rushed and pushy throughout the whole process. Told me to come back for my other issues, probably so she could charge $200 more for another visit. Turns out the pap she took came back with scant cellular it's and unsatisfactory specimen, which means they didn't have enough cells to run the test. She didn't even take the sample correctly and she didn't even tell me I needed to retake it. Worse yet, she told me the results were normal! Not qualified to be a doctor. read more

At first, I was very happy with Dr. Gavin. Then, a few years after becoming her patient, I had a bad experience with her. When I showed up for a routine appt with Dr. Gavin and asked some questions about my health, she acted as if she was totally unaware of my health record (even though it was on the computer screen in the room!). When I pointed her to the medical record for clarification, she was very dismissive, downplayed the information in the record, and never answered my questions. I was horrified that she had not even read the chart before my visit and had such poor grasp of empathy and poor understanding of my health record. That visit made me feel like she was totally incompetent. I never went back! read more

I visited Dr. Gavin once. She and I discussed my medications in depth and she recommended that I continue on a brand name drug, rather than switch to generic. The nightmare began when I requested a mail-order prescription for this drug and she incorrectly wrote the prescription for the generic. I was charged for the generic and then spent hours trying to get the situation straightened out and the correct drug prescribed. The pharmacy didn't want to take back the generic drug, nor did they want to reimburse me for it. I spoke to 4 people in Dr. Gavin's office and wrote her two letters, which were faxed and mailed to her on three separate occasions. She didn't even have the courtesy to respond. I also experienced other problems when trying to obtain a referral from her within the Sutter Healthcare system. She apparently doesn't know the protocol to write a referral and I again spent hours calling Sutter and her office trying to rectify the situation. She pays no attention to detail and has no regard for customer service. I won't be seeing her again. read more

My family has been going to PAMF for many years and have had a great experience. My wife and I had to pick a new doctor for our annual exams so we decided to go with Doctor Theresa Gavin even though her reviews were less than satisfactory. I wish I had paid more attention to these reviews and picked another doctor in the first place. She rushed through my session and did not even complete half of the annual physical exam and ignore several mandatory checks. But my wife's exam was even worse. She asked one side question to which my wife responded and then she charged us over $200 for that question alone. She also ordered a lab test that should not have been ordered and we paid over $650 for that test. Overall, we ended up paying $850 from our pocket even though Anthem PPO insurance covered 100% of the visit and lab charges. I followed up with Anthem and they tried to convince Doctor's office, on our behalf, unsuccessfully. We have filed a grievance with Anthem about Dr. Gavin and we will file a formal complaint against CA state board but what a hassle. It is very clear that her goal is to maximize her billing and not give a damn to her patients' health and well being. read more
