Nana's Nursery is one of those bright, shining stars. I'm not a fan of clothes shopping - ever - but when I walked by this store, I couldn't help but be drawn in by the extraordinary beauty within. Racks and racks of stunning dresses for women big and small (kids and adults). My breath was taken away by the colors, designs, quality, and sheer beauty of each dress. One gown in particular jumped out at me, its red shimming chiffon begging for me to put it on. It was (is) the most beautiful dress I've ever seen. A nice woman helped me to get into multiple layers of the gown and locked tight the silk sash, buttons and snaps of the bodice. Being a novice at ballgowns such as this, I had no idea it needed a hoop - an extremely large hoop - under the skirt. I though it would knock down tables and perhaps even a small child with this ginormous skirt, but I didn't. Instead I felt like a Princess and all the ladies in the land (especially the little girls) were mesmerized. It was amazing being a princess for a day, especially after an extremely challenging year. The ladies who work at Nana's were all so nice and helped me out of the dress at the end of the night so I didn't have to navigate Lyft with that intruding hoop. My only wish was that I had bought a size smaller because I had to keep pulling up the shoulder straps and the bodice was a bit loose, making me feel like "the girls" might escape at any minute. Unfortunately, they sold the smaller size so my plan to buy the next size down and gift the larger dress to a needy high schooler for Christmas was dashed into a snow bank. Ah, but there is Christmas magic in the air and perhaps I'll find another red dress so that both of our princess dreams come true. I was even able to find a few preemie items when my daughter was born 5 weeks early and all the clothes we had prepared for her were too big. There's shoes, books, toys, sleep sacks, carriers, etc. There's even women's clothes although I've only browsed those items a couple of times. You earn store credit for purchases which is also great, and I think on Tuesdays, items are discounted. If you want to consign, you basically have to call the month before to try to get an appointment since they book up pretty quickly. I've been told that I could also try to call on a consignment day (Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday) to see if there are any last-minute appt cancellations. You bring in your bag of items and they'll go through it and select what they think will sell. If it sells within a month, you can either get a percentage of the sale as cash or you can get a larger percentage as store credit. I opt for the store credit since I need to keep buying clothes for this growing child who is somehow above average height considering she has two exactly average height parents haha.

Unfortunately, I will never go back after an interaction that I had with the woman who works there today. She has never been particularly polite (she's snapped at both me and my husband), but we were willing to overlook that to support a local business. That changed today. I approached the store with my newborn in her stroller. The woman had her large, nine month old puppy tied to the front door of the store. Since the dog could easily jump on my stroller (it was quite large), I asked if it was baby friendly. I said, "I have a newborn in here, is your dog safe with babies?" And she snapped rudely, "I don't know. That's your responsibility." Mind you, we were literally on our first walk out of the house and had prioritized going to perch to get a little gift for our baby girl. This interaction was so totally unnecessary. Not only should a giant puppy not be tied to the front door, but to snap at parents trying to keep their kid safe is totally inappropriate. Move your dog! Be kind! Ugh I am so done. I will never be back. PS, I should clarify that I love dogs and I am a large dog owner myself. It is our responsibility as dog owners to 1) know how our dogs behave with kids and other dogs and 2) depending on that behavior, take precautions. This woman chose to do neither and was rude to us when we asked her to.
