This souvenir shop is always my go to for gifts and somehow saves me every single time. Last minute or not it is the first place I think of. I have found baby shower gifts birthday gifts white elephant gifts ornaments and honestly something for every occasion you can imagine. The selection is always creative and feels thoughtful not generic. I especially love the Sunset District merch because it is always a crowd favorite and feels personal without trying too hard. The stationery is also dangerously cute and the wrapping paper and gift bags are truly top tier which honestly makes the gift feel even better. If you are looking for a gift whether you are panicking or just browsing this place is a must stop. And as if it needed another reason to love it one time a bunch of hummingbirds flew into the store and were just flying around. I didn't even realize that Wishbone (the former store in this location) is now called "My Favorite," until hours later in Golden Gate Park - after I glanced at the artful "My Favorite" stamp on the brown paper bag from my recent purchase. I suspect that the delay in recognizing the name change was because My Favorite has very similar inventory to Wishbone. I was pleased to learn that it is even run by a former Wishbone employee. On my recent visit here, I was particularly enamored with My Favorite's jewelry section. My eyes were drawn to a pair of delicate beaded gold earrings and the daintiest elegant beaded bracelet. In addition to their well curated jewelry items, they also carry fun SF themed puzzles, cute dishcloths, empowering kids books - and other colorful quirky finds I ended up buying a petite hooked rug pillow with daffodils on it - to commemorate my Welsh heritage - https://www.wales.com/about/welcome-wales/national-symbols-wales . I had hoped the pillow was handmade, but after talking with the helpful and kind staff member here when checking out, she revealed that it was likely mass produced in a factory in China. I appreciated her candid honesty. Even though the pillow was actually fairly hard to the touch, and not handmade - I felt called to purchase it. I would much rather say "aw I love this place," as I pay for an item, rather than "aw I loved that place," when the business is gone. My hard whimsical daffodil pillow now sits upright in the corner of our place. A reminder that even small purchases help support wonderful local businesses. Trust. read more

Such a cute store with lots of toys and decor items located in the Inner Sunset. I recently revisited this store and while browsing for myself, I brought my Pup a dog toy. I usually let him pick out his own toys but this time, one of the staff brought over this Starbarks Drink toy and he's obsessed with it. Especially with the straw stuck out begging for him to chew. Very cute store. This is perfect for gifts or cute nick nacks. Unfortunately, the girl at the front with short hair is very unfriendly. In fact, all staff is unfriendly but she has the most sour attitude out of everyone I've encountered there. Out of all three times I've been she has been manning the register. Her attitude makes it highly unlikely I will return again. They also have a no return policy - only credit. They don't tell you this until AFTER you have purchased. This store is a scam. read more

I was with my girl in this store and she thought this silly mushroom thing was cute so I wanted to surprise her with it. I went up to the shopkeep and made a gesture of silence and nodded towards my girl and the shopkeep instantly "understood the assignment" and quietly took the toy and scanned it, and then she distracted my girl with some sales technique on some cards as I made the payment. My girl did not notice any of it and when I showed her the toy later on, she thought I was Houdini, James Bond, 007 combined into one hahahah, but thank you to the shopkeep for being so awesome!!! read more

We were visiting today from Springfield, Il. We used to live and work in SF and enjoyed returning to a fab gift shop, Wishbone. They offer a wide selection based on your sense of humor and quirky particulars. Choices for kids and adults are varied and there are certainly gifts for all occasions. I had been to Wishbone a few times since we moved here in 2003. I had seen it around 9th and Irving. How can you miss the shop's outside painting(with a wishbone in sea foam green and pink)? When you are on the Muni around 9th and Irving, you see Wishbone. It's a funky, cute store with a nice pick of items in the store. There's always something new. Wishbone is a cute little corner store that offers a huge selection of random things you don't need, but really want. They carry cards, stationery, handbags, cookbooks, candles, soaps, magnets, keychains, teapots, and baby clothes... just about anything that's great for gifting. Some of the items I've seen here have also been sold at Tutti Frutti half a block away (now closed), but slightly more expensive here. Customer service is lacking, and the return policy isn't great (no returns, only exchange or store credit). I generally walk out of the store empty-handed, simply because I can't justify paying $20 for an item that's $15 or less elsewhere. But it's still fun to stop by the store and browse. read more

When I first discovered Wishbone, it became my favorite store. And it wasn't because I would go in there often and buy a lot of things, on the contrary, I rarely went. But when I did, I loved what I found in there. One Christmas, I bought all my friends' presents from that store. Their unique gifts really just made me smile and my friends ended up with random gifts like teas from Africa and stuff like that. One of the coolest things about this store is that they sell Choward's Violet Mints. These antique candies bring me back to times past when I was a young child. All I have to do is see the bright shiny purple wrapper and I'll instantly reach for it. I can smell the faint scent of violet and be transported. It's that kind of candy. Sure, it has a unique taste too and it's rather an adult candy. But my older siblings introduced me to it at an early age and I had a mature taste early on. (I have one in my mouth now...) It's a nice thought. And the lemon one is equally as yummy. At $1.25, it's a small price to pay for history. I love their cool books too. I just spent the afternoon reading an entire book and no one gave me a dirty look. Then again, I was so engrossed in it that I didn't bother looking up until I was done. After looking high and low for a religiously appropriate christening present for my cousin's new baby girl, I ended my search at Wishbone. You see, my cousin resides in Harleysville, PA which is a stone's throw away from Amish country Lancaster. The silver Tiffany baby rattle didn't seem right and waaay beyond my budgetary constraints. The Eddie Bauer diaper bag was too earthy and the Diaper Genie was just too practical for urbane Auntie Joc. So, I found a baby onesie that said "I love my Mommies" on it and decided that THAT was the perfect gift. The parents aren't lesbians or anything, but I'm guessing Harleysville is way short on their LGBT quota and what better way to edumacate them than to have baby girl sport a thought-provoking, awe-inspiring, conversation-starting message tee. They have a great selection items, perfect for gift giving, or for yourself (I had to buy myself something while shopping for gifts for friends). The only thing I like more than nice things is buying nice things for other people. I like stores like wishbone because you can find unique gifts and cards. I love perusing through their cards and random knickknacks. The prices are high so it's not an everyday sort of place--special occasions and for that stylish friend's baby shower or birthday you're going to this weekend. A few months back, I was in Wishbone with a few friends. I was enamoured by the random collection of games, shirts, stationary, and other odds n ends. On the first visit, I bought a cute lil purse that was only about 10$ and a buncha candies that were childhood favorites for me. I also saw a lil game of box questions called Table Topic that looked interesting. I didn't get it though and then regretted it. It took me months to make it back to the Sunset district. *banghead* I finally got my table topic game the other day... and a bunch more candies. Just for kicks, because I see other Yelpers say this store is expensive, I checked the online price of my game. It's 26.95 in the store and 25.00 plus shipping and handling online. Seems the store is less expensive AND you get to see, handle and read through the cards before you buy. Wishbone has been incredible during the shelter-in-place with online orders for cards and gifts! I ordered a birthday card bundle (5 cards) for all of my quaratined birthday family and friends and needed a special one for my niece's 1st birthday. This place is expensive, and they don't sell anything unique that isn't findable on Amazon. I get that it's a small, local business, and I have no problem spending the extra to support small, local businesses. I have a problem supporting rude employees, and that has been my experience here the multiple times I've gone in to pick up a gift for someone. Never again.
