Came to visit our folks all the way from North Carolina and you know our BBQ is lit in North Carolina. Well... this was on time and reaaaaallll gooooood. We gonna be big girls if we keep it up. Maybe y'all should rename to Big Girl's BBQ. It's THAT gooooood...

Today, I was driving past, starving but with a full schedule of errands to run. If it had been any other place, I would have ignored it and just gotten coffee somewhere to keep me moving. Brakes, u-turn, park. I waited a couple minutes while some people gathered their order. I was too hungry to choose and asked the kind lady in the window to help me. She was patient and helped me by simply being patient. A few more people came up and I got nervous I was taking too long. But people just smiled. I decided to try a lot of stuff, but not so much I'd waste anything...including money if it wasn't as good as I hoped. Brisket wasn't ready yet so I went with Pulled Pork sandwich... Tender tasty meat nicely sauced on a white bread hamburger bun, with extra sauce on the side. I added sauce, but not so much as I wanted to taste the meat more. The sauce was good enough to eat like you would Chocolate sauce with ice cream. You're not going to leave any behind. Perfect sandwich saved me. Collard greens...perfectly cooked and seasoned, not too salty, pieces of bbq meat flavoring it nicely. Perfect side. Mac N Cheese...correctly cooked noodles, perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper, and cheese throughout, though not the gooey cheesy saucy kind of cheese...not velveeta "cheese". Really nice side. Banana Pudding...this is homemade with chunks of banana and chunks of (shortbread?) cookies. This is one of my favorites. Can of soda. She apologized it wasn't that cold. Her caring made it taste better. As you can see by the stars, I really liked this place. I'll be getting back to my errands now, an hour later after eating in my car and pondering a nap. I have a couple more bites of the pudding, which I will not be saving for later. Highly recommended for anyone who likes barbecue. And actually for anyone who thinks they don't like bbq. They will soon.

We started with 3 orders of grilled oysters, 3 for $5 is still a great deal. The cajun seasoning and cheese on top made them incredibly flavorful and enjoyable. They were so good we basically decided to order a second batch the moment we finished the first. We also got the fried Brussels sprouts and coconut shrimp. The coconut shrimp was delicious with the sweet and sour sauce, and the brussel sprouts were just pure yum. We were so into the appetizers that we almost skipped entrees, but decided to share a shrimp po'boy. The shrimp was perfectly crispy, exactly what we were looking for. Overall, great location, great food, friendly staff, fast service, and happy hour makes it all that much better. Will happily return and recommend!

Stopped into Salty's Island Bar & Grille for lunch on a Friday and left more confused than…read moresatisfied. The first odd moment was at check-in: our party of two was asked to sit at the outside high-top bar, even though the restaurant was mostly empty. That would have been fine if it was consistent, but right after that another party of two was told they could sit wherever they wanted. It set the tone that we were being "managed" into a specific spot for reasons that weren't about availability. Food-wise, it was actually fine. We ordered tacos and the surf and turf, and both were solid enough. Nothing blew me away, but nothing was wrong with it either. Service was also fine in the best way, our server was attentive without hovering and checked in at the right times. The value, though, is where this place starts slipping. A big chunk of the menu being market price feels misleading in practice, because it makes it harder to know what you're committing to until you're already there, and the final cost landed firmly on the expensive side for what we got. If you're going to charge premium prices, the overall experience has to match it. Unfortunately, the biggest issue had nothing to do with the kitchen. Because we were placed at that outside high-top bar, we ended up sitting a few feet away from a salesperson "training" another person directly in front of the restaurant, and their conversation was loud, crude, and uncomfortable the entire time. It wasn't just casual chatter, it was grotesque commentary, including a loudly announced remark about what he had done in the bathroom, plus a running lesson on how to deceive people and other tactics that sounded like a timeshare pitch tied to Wyndham. On top of that, the guy was openly ogling women, which made the area feel unpleasant and honestly embarrassing to sit near. The kicker was when we left, the same person tried to sell to us on the way out, apparently not realizing we'd been sitting right behind him the whole lunch. I understand people need to make a living, but the combination of the language, the behavior, and the proximity to diners completely undermined the experience. I don't know what the relationship is between that sales operation and Salty's. If you go, ask to sit inside or away from the bar/patio traffic, and be prepared for higher-than-expected pricing.
