Pat, Una, and their staff were wonderful. We were fortunate to be there during the euros, so I was able to take in the matches (my wife was less enthusiastic about this part). If you want to experience the Irish Midlands this is the place to go; both my wife and I travel and we try and avoid the touristy areas, preferring instead to spend our time meeting new people, and this trip provided that. Being American, I seldom get to have a good talk about football, but Pat was happy to oblige here. He's also made sure that every time I see Archie Gray take the pitch I will think of Weirs.

Quite traditional with a tasteful modern twist. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We had our 10 month old son, who was being a bit boisterous, so they asked if there was anything they could get him. They brought out a side dish as quickly as they could to ensure he could be fed and settled. I ordered the scrummy prawns and crab claws to start, followed by the tasty duck - delicious fresh ingredients. The music playing was just what I have on my ipod i.e Ben Howard, so whoever choose the playlist has great musical taste!) Lovely homely atmosphere. The bar was understandably very busy and there was a few people waiting for our table, which put me off ordering a sweet. I can understand the demand, but notice of how long we had the table for would have been appreciated. This would not put me off returning to the Bull & Claw for great food, lovely restaurant!

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

We've never been disappointed and we really enjoyed our latest visit. They get the meaning of hospitality: the welcome is warm, the food is great and all the staff charming. I opted for a steak & chips but it was a close run thing to a delicious sounding vegetarian risotto but it was my third dine out in 4 days with the other two being non meat, so steak it was. I asked for medium; I got medium. The meat was really flavoursome too. I asked for English mustard (best in the world) and it was a yes and I flipped the onion rings for tobacco onions and it was no problem. Just to note in passing the number of so called steak houses that don't have English mustard is as staggering as it is unacceptable. The tasty steak had a bacon jam spread atop. I'd never heard of it. It was salty, sweet so bacon, balsamic vinegar maybe sugar, I ate it all though my personal preference remains mustard. I'd like to try it as a spread on toasted crumpets with a lightly fried egg on top. The only thing I would change in my meal is the pepper sauce but again it's personal taste as I'd add double cream and a lot more black pepper. My wife opted for salmon and she declared it delicious. All in all another enjoyable meal in cosy surroundings. Hopefully we'll be back sooner rather than later.

With an extensive wine and craft beer choice there is something for everyone! On arrival we were a little confused to where the dining area was as we came in what we knew later to be the back bar entrance. Leading us into a separate dining area which had no one about. The bar staff were busy and didn't catch on that we were a little lost. A member of our party tried a door which took us into the restaurant area. We had a good table and it was relatively busy for a Tuesday. It turns out Tuesdays are a night with steaks on offer also, a good deal but I knew what I wanted before I got there. I chose the local scallops, black pudding crumb, lobster & parmesan infused risotto this looked great on arrival however I quickly spotted there was no black pudding and an addition of chopped king prawn to the risotto. The dish was a little bland but with additional parmesan it improved. Another lady with my party did not enjoy the risotto at all and really only ate the small scallops on top. For main course I went for the flat iron steak having loved it at another restaurant. I was informed by the waitress it was served pink... My favourite way for a steak! When the food was delivered there was a little mix up and tooing and froing. What seemed like a little misunderstanding over surf with some turf, kinda felt like a big deal to one of the waitresses. Having tucked in I could see the steak was more medium-well and as i bit in realised it was very tough, chewy and over cooked. I tried another bit and it was the same. I brought this to the attention of another waitress who quickly took it away. She returned to assure me another was on the way and that they would speak to supplier as this was unusually tough cut. I got my replacement which was exactly how I had imagined however my whole party had finished their meal and I felt a little like I as holding them up. We had brought our own cake for dessert and organised for the obligatory candles, parade and song. However before taking the cake out the waitress didn't check our table and it was missed by the guys Mum and daughter who'd went to the bathroom. Id tried to make eye contact to kitchen door but Birthday spotted her and she had to continue. Ha what a palava! We got no plates or forks with the heavily iced bday cake which we had to chase. I don't know what to make of here. Nearly want to try it again due to food being quite nice, friendly but inconsistent service and the great reputation it has built. Maybe this was an off night?

If you enter through the red door you can go either of two ways but you will want the restaurant in the back. Very open architectural feel to it.
