I came here on a whim while shopping for wine in the area. A great selection of bottles, many of them at very reasonable prices. Most of their bottles are pretty inexpensive, yet they do have higher priced options if you want to splurge or buy someone a gift. I only came here once but I bought a handful of bottles and wasn't disappointed by any of them. Not only do they do food pairings, but they also do music pairings which is very hipster but an interesting concept. I'd come back if I was ever in the area again. read more

Love love love this place. It's quaint and full of all types of delicious wines. They have an extensive collection of reds, whites and spakling wines. The price point is also a winner. I havent spent over $15 for any bottle. The main reason why I like this place is because of the lovely woman that works here...I believe she may be the owner. You can approach the owners with any questions or advice that you'd want to seek out, as they are ultra friendly and knowledgeable of their wine stock. After finding this quaint local new wine store Yelp style, I stumbled in late blustery December evening in preparation for my Holiday/ move out soirée need of Mulled Wine! I was met by two gracious and hospitable owners who helped guide my selection. I purchased a case of the mellow Cab Sauvignon variety and a recommended bubbly of Domaine Collins.. all for less than $150 with Yelp Check in deal & The owner helped me load into my car... I LOVE THIS WINE SHOP! Not only are the owners friendly and knowledgeable about wine (seriously, so many people came in while I was there with my boyfriend asking about pairings for whatever dinner they were going to and got stellar recommendations), their shop is gorgeous. Even though it's a small shop, it really doesn't feel that way. The space is used brilliantly and convinces me that it was designed by an artistic genius. Every piece in the shop has a story so if you get bored talking about wine, ask them about the neat artifacts in their shop - from the gorgeous record player to the wine displays that they put together themselves. It's like visiting your designer friend's wine collection in their beautiful house only you can buy the wines, most of which are totally affordable and delicious (many in the $10-$20 range, although also some nicer stuff that's more pricey) - we've tried a few of them. Wish this winey neighbor was really my neighbor. O, the fun we would have. My first encounter with this establishment was during their Grand Tasting a few weeks ago. The place was packed with people who were drooling over bottles of wine and tasty delights. Don't worry that you missed out because every Wednesday from 6-8pm they have a wine tasting of their featured distributors. Just join their mailing list and you'll get a friendly reminder the day of. Though the Wednesday tasting I attended was not as vibrant as the Grand Tasting, so I did feel obligated to purchase a bottle. Well at least my buddy I was with felt it was necessary to show his support to avoid whiny faces. There is a bit of an awkward dilemma, I came for the free wine, but I couldn't sneak out because there were no extra bodies to deflect attention. However, the owners are super friendly. They are a husband and wife duo. This couple is uber cool, they taste the wine while listening to music, so they can suggest which artist's track to play to get the right vibe of the red or the white. I have been meaning to try the Anna de Codorniu to pair it with some Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. But do they mean Cry me a River or Future/Sex Lovesound? This neighbor is not looking to take all your money. Most of the bottles of wine are very affordable. There are many reds from the U.S., Italy, France, or South America that will run you about $10-$15. If you feel to indulge, there are $30 bottles. The decor feels like your grandmother's basement, except you get to drink! Don't forget to lay your hands on the early 20th century typewriter. It works! read more

At this point we were discovering the magic of Lambrusco and my pal realized that I had never used the foursquare percentage discount for this store before. They ARE super friendly here though and the selection is totally more impressive than Fermented Grapes on Vanderbilt. I recommend it. This is my wine spot. I was very thrilled to have a real wine store in the neighborhood, since before most options were from the corner liquor store(beyond bad). I think they have a very good selection of wines, and I did not feel intimidated at all. I don't get too crazy about my wine, I just know what I like. I always leave here with a decent bottle, and a treat for my dog. I recently had a bottle that was corked, hey it happens... They were so professional and cool about the whole thing. Came upon this place visiting some friends in the area and I needed to bring wine. I actually live in Little Italy and needed some wine for a friends get together in the neighborhood. The owners were so nice and knowledgeable that we ended up creating a connection! We found wines I liked and what I was looking for and now I order cases from their app for our house! They suggest some new ones that they find and we discuss what I'm looking for when I contact them! It's perfect for us having our holiday parties... our birthday parties and events!! I'm often looking for a new wine to try and since I am on a budget, the Winey Neighbor's center table of "$12 and under" bottles is always my first start. Their selection is also really good for a small (space-wise) wine store and if you are ever lost or need recommendations, the owners are extremely knowledgeable. Also, their little placards under each wine provides parings with food and music - a really neat idea versus the traditional "points" system. This isn't a large store, it might have 50 different wines total, so if you are looking for something rare, specific, or pricey this isn't the place. However, as a neighborhood wine shop, it fits the bill. Plus the descriptions of the wine, though a bit pretentious (music pairing, really?), are usually pretty informative and the staff is always nice and willing to help. A gem of a wine shop on Washington Avenue. The room is big, but there are only about two bookcases full of wine. It's one of those shops you can't hide in. Fortunately, the very thing you're looking for--the cheap stuff--is right up front, in the form of a large $12 bottle table. Take another look at those $12 bottles: they look pretty interesting! A Muscato, a Gerwurtzraminer from Washington, awesomely-designed labels...and, as the proprieties proudly stated, "I've tried them all--I can personally vouch for all of these bottles." Though I am not an expert in wines this place makes me try as many as I can. A lot of options and try for affordable price I think this is the definition of an american dream. This store is my favorite option for wine in Prospect Heights. They don't have a huge selection like the store up the street, but it's really not a problem. Winey Neighbor's prices are very reasonable -- they have a decent selection of $9-$13 bottles. They also include nice little cheat sheets for every bottle in stock. I've been in a few time but today was the last straw. I came in today with my baby in a stroller and my in-laws (on foot) looking for a red. The curly haired girl gave us a neutral "hello" and that was really it. She watched us while we quickly selected a wine. There was a quiet transaction. Then she watched while I maneuvered the stroller to back out of the store only to remember that the door opens to the inside. I made light of the situation while I made fun of myself and had a laugh. She stared at me coldly while I corrected my exit strategy with the stroller and made my escape. Well. Pfft. It sucks that you don't like your job. My suggestion to you is to find something that you enjoy that will make you smile. 2 stars. 1 for having a fridge and an ok, yet limited selection. Great store! Great experiences every time. Every wine I have selected or been recommended has been so delicious. And every time I feel I have either gotten a great deal or have felt justified in the $ I have spent. So many really great choices for $12-$18 The owners here are also amazing. It's obvious that they truly work very hard to make it an enjoyable, peaceful, and chill experience. Not to mention the fun wine pairing to music selections. It's never that weird, awkward, stressful situation that sometimes happens walking into a small wine store when you just want to shop or if you need to ask for help. They don't hound you, AND they (the owners or any staff they have hired) really listen to you when you say what you like or are looking for. Never had a bad recommendation, and always choose them first if I can. Every time I have taken a recommendation of theirs to a party, or as a gift, I get huge compliments. read more

I hadn't been in since the original owners left and I was really surprised at how different it was. The new center shelving unit has room for more wines, but there's much less description on the tags, and the few remaining "music pairings" feel halfhearted. It's still a perfectly fine local wine shop, and the new owner seems quite knowledgeable, but the spark of originality and specialness to the place is gone. read more
