rude and condescending service from both employees i spoke to. this was an extremely frustrating experience i don't recommend to anyone looking to enjoy their day. read more

Great selection of amaros and wines. Ordered online for pickup, and it was pretty seamless. They were out of one of the bottles I wanted, but were quick to call me for a substitute. Sign up for their newsletter, cuz they have tasting events almost every week! read more

I wanted an excellent bottle of Barolo for my birthday so I scoured the internet and found what I wanted at Shawn. Shawn Fine Wine and Spirits has been in business since 1970, and has certain hard to find items. My quest was an older bottle of Oddero Barolo, and I found a 2007 Bussia Soprano Mondoca. The bottle was not cheap, but considering that 2007's are very hard to find I will consider what I paid a fair price. There are numerous other hard to find bottles in the store and I will buy one for the next special occasion. PS the Barolo was delicious. read more

I've lived around the corner from this wine store for over 9 years and not once have I had a good experience. It's a combination of unspectacular recommendations/customer service (high turnover), poor wine selection, and bottles, on average, being $2-4 more than they should be priced. Keep walking to other wine shops on 7th.. read more

Shawn Fine Wine & Spirits features a friendly and knowledgeable staff compounded with an excellent selection of wines and liquor. If you are throwing an event, Shawn Fine Wine & Spirits can help you select beverages to make a memorable occasion all of your guests will enjoy. Their large variety accommodates all budgets. If you know nothing about wine, they will give you an honest lesson that is sensitive to your wallet and personal tastes. They play good music here to! Be sure to have your Shazam on! Perk: Shawn Fine Wine & Spirits is located near many grocery stores, including a large Key Food across the street, so you can do all of your errands at once. Holding back on that last star until Shawn Fine Wine & Spirits sells rubbing alcohol during NYC's Coronavirus crisis. On that topic, they are protecting customers with social distancing that respects our government's guidelines. Glad to have this business in the neighborhood! It's one of those unique places that makes Park Slope the true village of Park Slope. read more

I came to Shawn yesterday to pickup a bottle before dinner. Upon inquiring about the wine I was hoping for, I received a bitter response from a member of the staff: "Well, let's see your ID and get that out of the way first." (For context, I am a 28 year old woman.) I was very taken aback by the coldness of his tone based on an unverified assumption. Happy to have Amaro Spirits down the street - will not need to patronize this place. read more

Nice little place in the heart of Park Slope with, indeed, good wine and spirit selection. The staff was friendly (enough) and knowledgable; Adam and the cashier has an in-depth conversation about bourbons, though when I interjected, "Berkshire Mountains Distllery...hey! Great Barrington, Massachusetts! I grew up near there!", she gave me a wan smile, raised one eyebrow in a silent "...annnnyways..." fashion, and continued to talk to my boyfriend. Fail. Bring your kids while you buy their booze. Lots of crayons and coloring books for them to play with! read more

I'm a local! I live around the corner and have ample options where to purchase my wine and liquor. I choose Shawn's 95% of the time. On average I spend 175.00 a week on wine and liquor so I know what I'm talking about. Shawn's suffers from a small footprint and low ceilings, however they make the best of this situation by making for a cozy, friendly, well laid out shopping experience. You cannot achieve this without having superior customer service. From the "hello, how are you?" when you walk in the door, to the kids play area (a Park Slope necessity) to the nightly wine tastings featuring interesting selections from around the world to hyper local. The wine descriptions posted on the shelves are also incredibly descriptive. For overall selection, customer service, and ease choose Shawn's and you won't go wrong! read more

Very knowledgeable and polite staff. They have a punch card so you can get a discount on your 11th bottle.

The best wine and liquor store in Park Slope. Amazingly friendly and rather knowledgeable staff (they're not going to come asking you what you're up to, but if you ask them, it's a great experience), good wine selection, easy to shop. After experiencing Shawn's, I'm all ready to leave 7th Av Wine & Liquor in the dust (I had another bad experience there today). Is open past 6 pm on Sunday. :-) read more

Prices are actually not bad considering the location and knowledgeable staff; go to the place up the street with the lowbrau jumbo window ads of the liquor and its price and inquire about how to pair an item with your meal or whatever. Exactly. I also appreciate that even though they are selective about their offerings, what they have is a representative sampling of all things of interest. And though I often forget to, its nice to be able to pop in during their regular week-end tastings hosted by various vendors. read more

Great, friendly place in the heart of the Slope! They have a great selection, and although they don't jump on you when you first come in, if you ask, they are extremely helpful! Although I tend to be a beer/wine person, when I asked about getting my dad a bottle of brandy, they went out of their way to tell me the types of brandy they had, the differences, and a recommendation based on price point. Seriously. Who else takes the time to do that for someone? Minus one star for the in-approachability that can occur with some members of the staff, and the slightly higher markup, but it's honestly not that bad of a markup considering where it's located in the city, and the people are friendly once you break the ice! read more

I came here looking for a good organic wine. I get terrible migraines from sulfates and can tolerate organic wine better. I asked for a recommendation at the store. Nice organic wines are hard to come by. I gave the man helping me the names of a few I've tried that I liked. He explained they didn't carry them. He then became extremely arrogant as if I knew nothing about wine, and gave me one $10 red wine as an option to try and insisted this was the best organic wine they carry. There were no other options. I asked if I could exchange it if I didn't like it. Many wine stores I've been to do this. He said no, laughed, and insisted I wouldn't have problem with the wine. The wine had to be the worst wine I have ever tasted. The friends I shared it with couldn't drink it either. I ended up throwing out the bottle. The customer service here needs to be better, and much more open minded and understanding to its customers. read more

Look, I will advocate local business until the day I expire. I understand that an independent business is tough to run, and often demands charging your customers a premium. But seriously, $45 for a bottle of Bulleit bourbon?? $35 for a fifth of Jack Daniels!? Fully $5 more than another independently owned (and better curated, if slightly less charming) that is three short blocks away?? I just want to do my part as a cog in the capitalist system and get the word out -- this should hurt your business until you bring your prices in line. This place has a nice vibe, it's a pretty store, and everyone seems pretty friendly. I also can't speak to the wine selection -- I was simply looking for a bottle of bourbon. But until you provide something other merchants don't, the market must punish you. If you're buying liquor, take your business elsewhere. read more

I would love to be able to comment on the selection of this store, but I haven't spent much time in there to know. Every time I've been there, I came out as quickly as I could. For whatever reason all the employees look like you are inconveniencing them just by going in. I'm not planning to go back. read more

Wonderful place, well stocked, not pretentious, and they will help you pick out a bottle with no pressure. I agree that the cashiers are civil at best, but who cares? I don't need to be engaged in conversation while paying. Joe S, instead of being passive aggressive about it, if you need help, ask someone. I prefer to not be accosted by a salesperson upon entering a store, personally. I think if you'd asked one of the two men who were (heavens!) engaged in a conversation for some advice, you would have found that they would be happy to help you without steering you outside your price range. read more

I've lived a block from Shawn's for about two years now and it's been my go-to for wines and liquor. Today I left the store with a bottle of scotch that slipped from it's box and shattered on the pavement as I was leaving. The manager abruptly told me there was nothing they could do about this. I would of continued coming here for years if it weren't for this incident. Now they have permanently lost my business. read more

Great Staff and wine selection , everyone is always very helpful. Best mom and pops store on 7th avenue. I always look forward to stopping in on my way home from work, especially when I had a bad day at work :-) read more

Over the last few years, I've seen this store turn into to the best wine store in the slope. The new interior is warm and inviting and they always have good music and a friendly, helpful staff. For wine, they have all the essentials, and every time I splurge for a nicer bottle of wine I'm pleasantly surprised with the results. read more

Shawn's Wine & Spirit has never disappointed when it comes to last minute need a half case of bubbly that isn't 100$ a bottle situation... I love the cava they suggested last week and even loved the brooklyn grown liquor that I could mix with it. I almost didn't want to review it in case everyone in my world started following me here and then I wouldn't have a secret wine shop where I get my goods from! read more

Decent spot, it's the wine shop closest to my apt, so I go there when I need something last minute. They do a good job of offering a variety of wines at a variety of prices in a pretty small space- I can buy a chilled bottle of Clicquot or a $5 bottle of Chilean chardonnay. It does the job, although if I'm smart and have a little forsight, I go to Astor in the city. read more

If you have not been into Shawn's lately, you should go. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, selection fits every price range and taste. Feels like your friends work there. Just started tasting classes and have regular tastings most everyday. Highly recommended. read more

This store fails in customer relations. One manager in particular seems to enjoy upselling his product with an accompanying dose of shame. His style is rather insidious: he is perched by the cash register, calling out bottles you might want to try, but cannot be bothered to come out and engage. And then, when it becomes clear that you are wasting his time by asking questions, he comes out, pulls out a bottle and rather imperiously says, "Here." Except that the bottle is $50, not $15 which was my price range and I said so. Then he has the audacity to shrug. This is the second time he has done this, asking me if I can afford a $150 bottle of champagne. Perhaps I could but I'd rather take my business to The Good Wine on 5th avenue, Prospect Wine on 9th, Seventh Avenue Liquors by Berkeley Place and all the wonderful other wine stores south of 9th street on 7th avenue. Never again. read more

I am also a local; Shawn's was my go-to wine shop for close to thirty years, just around the corner from me. When Management/Ownership changed a couple of years ago, it went downhill FAST. I now primarily patronize other shops in the Slope area and only go to Shawn's for convenience. But today was the final straw for me. Needed some gin for dinner guests who expected martinis/negronis. Not close friends, Gordon's was good enough for them. Shawn's was carrying magnums for $32.99. I have NEVER paid that much for Gordon's gin. I slipped out and headed up to 7th Avenue Wines where I bought the same bottle for $28.99. If I had the time to walk down to 5th Avenue I'm sure it would have been a few dollars less. If Shawn's is scamming customers on liquor identical to that of any other shop in the Slope, how much are they marking up their wines...? read more

I was drawn in by Wine tasting sign outside. Zack was soo friendly & helpful. He suggested a sweeter wine since in not really a wine girl. My boyfriend & I enjoyed the wine that nite. I wish I could remember the name of it. I only paid $12 for the bottle. I would definitely come here again read more

This is my normal liquor store based mainly on convenience. They have decent wine and when you can get someone to help you, it does have a neighborhoody feel. The problem is they don't keep the same wines in stock at all. If you found something there a month ago that you liked, chances are it won't be there next time. It's like Trader Joe's on steroids -- do not get attached to the inventory. But overall, this place and 7th Ave Liquors are the only places I can stand in the neighborhood. I use to go to the one on 5th and Union but they've gone hugely downhill and the Wine Shop on 5th and 3rd is the snobbiest place and they only sell wine anyway which is usually enough but sometimes a girl needs a little whiskey. Don't judge. So if you can't get to Manhattan, to Astor or Chambers Street Wines, this place will do in a pinch. read more

I went in the other day to buy some wine expecting to chat with my favorite chick behind the counter - the one with the blue hair who takes care of stray cats. Guess what? They fired her! She was there FOREVER and the reason why many people went to Shawn's instead of other local places. She knew all of her customers - most by name and always had treats for the dogs. They've made a big mistake. I am taking my business elsewhere. read more

I've been shopping here for years. I've seen it go from pretty great, to pretty awful. Over the last year, the staff has evolved for the worse. I used to be greeted with a friendly hello - something you would normally expect and appreciate in a local shop. Now I barely get any eye contact. I'm certainly not expecting a parade, just a hello. They seem to be interested in only having very loud conversations with each other. I can't remember ever being asked by anyone of the new staff if I was finding what I needed. I've had to elicit help on my own. I've also noticed that you can't find a decent bottle under $12.99. This wasn't always the case. I'll spend a vast range on wine. And I appreciate having good choices in lots of price points. Again this used to be a shop where I could always find a good bottle for under $10 and $30+. Finally, and this is the proverbial straw that broke the camels back, after eliciting some help in choosing between 2 bottles - the sales associate described my choices as 'run of the mill'. I found this so offensive. Even if they were in fact run of the mill, it's an awful thing to say to a customer. That was it. I love supporting my local shops, but this won't be one of them anymore. read more

I've been patronizing Shawn's for more than 7 years now. I will no longer spend my money there for 2 reasons. 1) There was a young lady (Hillary: Loves animals: ) that was let go from the establishment that took good care of me and the people I referred when we would visit the shop. I was told she was let go after being there for more than 10 years! It showed that she loved her job. I actually thought at one point she was the owner because of the way she took care of her customers. After hearing the horrible news, while at the store, I was being helped by someone else (balding older gentleman w/ glasses) whom I've avoided in the past because I've seen him in action with other customers. He was very rude and condescending. I brought quite a few customers their way and now I'm going to find another Wine & Spirits in the area for me and my friends. BTW, they have an ok wine selection so if you don't know what you want, don't expect anyone to help you with your purchase. read more

This is my favorite wine store in Park Slope/Brooklyn Heights (and NYC generally). I've enjoyed just about everything I've bought from here. They don't sell anything they don't like, and they seem to like a lot of the same qualities I do. There's a good selection of wines for $10-12 and even a few below that. I find it much more pleasurable to pay $10 and drink a wine from this boutique than to pay $8 and drink something from Trader Joe's that usually turns out horrible. I've only spent in the $30-40 range here once, but that was an amazing bottle. Their sparkling selection is maybe not as good as Fermented Grape's. read more

We recently purchased several cases of Cava from Shawn's to be served at our daughter's wedding in Park Slope.
