We were really looking forward to eating here. My husband, our 6 year old son and I decided to stop in for a late lunch. The place was very crowded (and it was a holiday weekend so we expected this) and we planned to be patient. It is "seat yourself" style and the only table we could find was close to the entrance so we sat down and looked at our menus. We waited 20 minutes before a staff member came to give us silverware and said a waitress would be with us shortly. We watched as 3 other tables of people were attended and given drinks that got there after us. We tried getting waitress's attention but she didn't even try to look in our direction. 45 minutes later and we decided to leave. It's ridiculous that we had to sit there for that long and not one waitress came over to greet us. No matter how busy the restaurant is, there has to be some communication between the staff and waitresses need to acknowledge their patrons. read more

We have been to The Willard several times and really enjoy their food and atmosphere. I have had their breaded tenderloin which is probably the best around. True Indiana delicacy. The wings are also very good and do not lack meat. I love their french fries. They are a cross between a steak fry and a seasoned fry, once again, one of the best I have tasted. As for the pizza, it seems very popular but is not my favorite. I give it four stars because the service is on the slower side, kitchen not servers, so never go when you are in a hurry. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. The codfish is very good as the fried tenderloin and ribeye sandwich. Pizzas have a home-made taste with lots of toppings and cheese. Plus they serve Sun King Osirus on tap. Service is neither fast or slow and is always pleasant and competent. Loved the Willard! A former hotel in Franklin, IN now a supreme restaurant with Americana flair. Dirty Helen was just what I needed! I mean the beer. This is the classic tale of a hometown favorite. The atmosphere is laid back with a welcoming feel visitors new or old. The place is usually hopping with patrons of all ages and walks of life. Keep in mind that this is a restaurant and bar. By day it is family friendly. By night it tends to favor the adult crowd. As for the food, it's all good. But they are most known for their Tenderloins and Pizza. The Tenderloins are big and quite tasty. The Pizzas are all good too. I must add that the Sausage Pizza here is hands down the best i have had anywhere. Anyone familiar with it will agree! The cheese was tasteless and I couldn't even tell there was any sauce on the pizza. Probably one of the best breaded tenderloins I have had. Breading not too heavy, the loin was not too thin. It actually had some bite. Service on a late Saturday night was quick. Our order came out of the kitchen in a very reasonable amount of time and all 8 of us got our food within 2 minutes of each other. Impressive and the food was hot, which is always a good thing. As we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, I ordered the pretzel breadsticks with cheese appetizer and was very happy with the 3 large warm pretzel breadsticks served with 2 cups of cheese sauce, 1 spicy and 1 not. I had plenty of cheese sauce left over to use on the delicious french fries served with my fish dinner. The fish was white and flaky but the breading was quite hard, making the 2 filets looks more like egg rolls than cod filets. I actually ate the fish out of the breading..rather like eating a lobster claw or crab leg. Mom's patty melt was also good, especially the fresh toasted marble rye bread. Everyone else in our group was pleased with their selections, including the pizza this place is famous for. I'm mad that Evan reviewed The Willard before me! I too believe in The Willard. First place I ever had a drink in Indiana. Rolled into Franklin Friday night to meet my Hoosier friends (now LBCers) & their family there & I was not disappointed. I felt like I was walking into a big party at someone's house. It is in fact an old 2 story house (see photo) with a great patio right in the middle of town. Servers were nice & quick. We only had munchies: fries, mushrooms & wings. All good. My husband said the wings were great. Loud with music, but not too loud that you couldn't talk. Couple of tvs to watch, not hear, the big game. Always busy, but you can always find a seat. Needs bigger bathrooms. Two stalls? Not enough for those midwestern girls! They can consume many drinks which equals a crowded bathroom. Come on Willard! You have enough room in that big old house to add a 2nd bathroom! I'll be back in June- make it happen. Met the Moore clan there- that was half the occupancy. Learned in Franklin you can just drop the "Moore" name & you're in with the locals! read more

I'm not one to leave bad reviews typically. Very slow service on a Sunday evening at 7PM. Took 15 mins just to get drinks out. Then the waitress took other table orders from people that sat down after us. Service got progressively worse as we sat there. Food order was not accurate. Since moving here three years ago, I have seen a significant decline at the level of service at the Willard and last night was the last night I will spend my money there. It is unfortunate because they have one of the best breaded tenderloin sandwiches around. However, their menu is tired - exactly the same with absolutely zero changes. I get it, many of the items are probably loved by the regulars. But at least update the look of the menu and add and subtract to keep it interesting. But the biggest disappointment is their level of service. We sat for over 10 minutes, with three servers walking by, not making eye contact so as to avoid any contact with us ( we were probably not in their station - but a simple, hello, let me get your server would be a no-brainer). We finally get a server, who stopped at two other tables who came in after us. It took over an hour for us to order food, get drinks and finally get the food. Beer wasn't cold because I would bet they were poured and sat on the bar. Food was ok - wife had the chili, I had the buffalo chicken wrap - cold. After sitting and waiting for our food, I asked if we can have it to go. Magically our food was ready - most likely sitting in the window based on the temperature of my wrap. Really poor service. Being in the restaurant business for over 30 years I have a very keen understanding of "steps of service", food quality and being customer-centric. They seem to have lost their edge and service minded focus probably because they have a good base of regulars that keeps the business open. But at this rate, they will begin to lose that base if they are not careful. The wait staff is entirely different and from what I can tell seem woefully under trained. Update the menu (appearance at least), train the wait staff and hire a hostess so that when a table has been sat, the server in that station knows. I would say this stems from a manager/management issue. But come to think of it, I couldn't tell you who the manager is - even after 3 years. Kinda a bummer since I like that tenderloin... read more

Little Franklin has a lot to offer, but The Willard is a staple! Pizza seems to be the things the locals like the most--some travel 30 mins or more for it! Wings are also good, and their beer menu isn't small. If you visit on the weekend for dinner, come early. Lines can form and tables are a commodity. This is the "Cheers" of this part of Indiana.
