Six of us went to Richards brick oven pizza in Franklin Indiana. We got there right at five when it was opening and we're promptly seated. It's a cute little place. It was very easy to hold a conversation. All of us got pizza. Another couple got cheesy flatbread, which was just OK and another couple got the pinwheels. They were OK. Our pizza came out pretty crispy with some burnt crust. It was kind of dry tasting, but it was very reasonable, all in all it wasn't an over the top pizzeria, but it was adequate and the service was tremendous. Always always always a wonderful dining experience! We went here after a fun movie at the historic theater in town (a must) and were seated pretty quickly despite the rush of people. It is a smaller space but perfect for a dinner casual atmosphere. They have various drink options but our favorite is actually their locally made root beer - and it is free refills! They have a brick oven so their pizzas are always just the right amount of crunchy and crispy but with dough that melts in your mouth. They also now have house made gluten free which is slightly chewy but has great flavor. Much appreciated and also delicious. I tried the Greek pizza with feta, olives and spinach which was salty and briny and amazing. My husband had a calzone which melted in his mouth he said (thus no pictures this time). First time trying Richard's Brick Oven Pizza - they are right next to my office but only open for the dinner hour, so I usually am not able to go. I enjoyed the style of pizza from the brick oven, but felt like the serving size was much too small for the price. It's a thin crust pizza with very fresh ingredients and had a great flavor but for almost $11, the serving size needs to be bigger. You can get almost the same size for several dollars less at other nearby pizza places and the quality is comparable. read more

Yeah, this place is worth the hype. Tucked right off downtown, this little place really packs a punch. Our first visit was a crowded Saturday night - about a 45 minute wait, but we entertained the kids walking around in front of the restaurant. The hostess mentioned that we could get a drink at the bar while we waited if desired, but with the kiddos we opted out of that. The namesake brick oven is the focal point of the indoor dining area, so you get to watch your food get prepared, which is pretty cool. Where we were sitting on the other side of the room, I could still feel the heat when someone walked in front of the opening. There are a few suggested combinations for pizza, but be prepared to make your own with the toppings provided. We went for Alfredo sauce for the base (my wife is picky on her red sauce) with chicken, pepperoni, and spinach - a fantastic combination in my opinion. Garlic pinwheels were also delicious - think a big cinnamon roll, but made out of a breadstick and lined with cheese instead of cinnamon, dipped in marinara. Fantastic. Food: pretty good. The bruschetta appetizer was delicious. The pizza was very good. There is a nice variety of items on the menu and they are happy to customize most items. Service: our server was excellent. Very attentive and seemed to genuinely care if we had a good experience. Ambiance: the inside was nothing like I expected. Honestly, it looked more like an older Mexican restaurant inside. It definitely didn't have any sort of Italian or pizza restaurant vibe. We sat up at the bar along the front entrance area while we waited for a table outside and had a drink. They have a pretty decent cocktail and bar selection- but didn't see a bartender. It looks like all the servers make their own drinks. Sort of an odd set up. But, service was quick and friendly. Outside is wonderful. The tables are spaced out well which allows for quiet and relaxed conversation. The back patio is under a canopy of trees and perfect for eating pizza on a Friday night. I really struggled between a 3 and 4 star on this place because I do have two coinciding things that were off putting. A lot of the servers and staff looked unkept- like they needed a shower and wash their clothes. There is no "uniform" and certainly no hygiene protocol. There was someone from behind the pizza bar making the pizzas. He would come out and serve food items to the tables. His clothing was understandably covered in flour, sauce, etc., but he also looked like he hadn't showered, brushed his teeth or shaved in weeks. It's not off putting enough to not return but did take away from the overall experience. Also- the same thing about the restaurant itself. It's not terrible- but it needs a deep clean - especially the restrooms. We will be back just for the food and outside ambiance - but would love to see them spruce a few things up. With that - they really could become a premier restaurant in Franklin. read more

We came here for my dads birthday and we had a group of 5. We got sat right away. We were sat next to a beautiful hanging wine rack and it was awesome seeing the pizzas made right in front of you in their brick oven. We got an order of the cheesy bread for the table. I got the cheese tortellini with spinach and chicken and it was delicious. I shared it with my mom and it was plenty for the both of us. My dad and sister in law got a pizza and loved it. My brother ordered a calzone and raved about it as well. They have beer and wine for your drinking needs. We will be back! read more

We've been to Richard's before, so this time I decided to have pasta instead of pizza. It was awesome and was glad I was able to add whatever I wanted. I added artichoke hearts and mushroom! My husband had a pizza with numerous meat options that looked and tasted great! Hanna gave us GREAT customer service, she gave well thought out suggestions and had a positive attitude! One suggestion, if you and your dinner guest drink the same beer.....get a pitcher! We plan on doing just that when we go back! Ask for Hanna, you won't be disappointed!! read more

Food was outstanding. Best pizza I've ever eaten. Service wasn't great nor terrible. I would recommend this place to anyone. Got 2 deserts to try. Would definitely recommend the lemon cake. The s'mores pizza was pretty much as you'd expect. Some dough, chocolate chips mini marshmallows and some crushed up graham crackers. Really rich stuff. This place has some of the best pizza in the area. We like the wood fire variety. Any pizza on their menu is great and perfect for one person. Randomly decided to come here one night for a date and was quite surprised at how good the food was. You walk in and immediately are greeted with the open kitchen as well as a live performer. What a great vibe we thought. While enjoying some live music, I ordered a pizza with Cajun sausage (I suggest also getting Italian sausage because the Cajun sausage is not that present) with pepperoni and mushrooms. Wowwowwowwowwwww I was in Franklin for a week; they have limited hours, and I still got dinner here 3 times (well once was carryout) Let's see. Spinach salad: 5 stars it's perfect; I asked them to warm up the dressing and it was a perfect lead in for their Margarita pizza and an ice cold Bud. House salad is good but I am not turning down a spinach salad. That was my second perfect meal. First meal I had a group of 6 and we went all family style. Garlic knots or whatever they are called, with marinara to dip, some pizza, some fett alf (kids meal I took some dad tax from) and this crazy lasagna where you choose your toppings - it's thin so load it up, and then the sauce on top. Wow. Friday night was so crowded I decided to carryout - very sweet crew working the tables and the bar. As a pizza connoisseur I was shocked to find the best pizza I have ever eaten in Franklin, IN. I tell Richard every time my wife and I eat there that I keep waiting for the time I'm disappointed, yet it never comes. The restaurant's parking lot connects to a beautiful flower garden, the restaurant itself is rustic with a small stage for live bands. Richards Pizza is in the ever-growing in coolness, downtown Franklin. Located in a modest building Richards was surprisingly cool inside with their pizza oven taking center stage and an actual music stage also present. I also enjoyed the artwork selection. A nice variety of beverages are available from unique cocktails to craft beer at a very reasonable price. The pizza lived up to the hype with traditional to unique combinations plus gluten-free. I especially appreciated their care in making my pizza fully separate to reduce cross-contamination and the crust was yummy. The brick oven gives the crust an amazing flavor and everyone in the party agreed. Pizza could be split between 2 people with appetizers or a salad, we chose to dive right in and each person in the party was able to devour a pizza on their own. Desserts were also available and my friend enjoyed the Lemocello cake. Service was acceptable, a little slow but the staff were incredibly nice and super busy so we didn't mind any delays. read more

Had dinner here last night with my family, was our first time, we had high hopes for this restaurant but it fell flat for us. The look of this restaurant is very cool, felt comfortable, but it was kind of on the small side, which isn't bad if they weren't busy. Ok, so now with the bad stuff. When we first walked in none of the employees acknowledged us, we just stood there while everyone eating kept looking at us, I mean I know we're a good looking family but stop staring, haha! Anyways, finally after standing there for about 5 minutes a lady that we weren't even sure that worked there asked how many was in our party and then walked off?!?! All of the employees were just wearing street clothes so you really weren't sure who's who in this restaurant. Finally a younger lady put us on a waiting list, after about 20-25 minutes we finally got seated. Guess what? More waiting. So after about another 5-10 minutes waiting on a waitress a lady came and asked if we've been helped, walked off and sent over the waitress that I'm guessing was on our section. Let me tell you, she's a talker, and not to us but to the other waitresses, because every time she forgot to bring us something she said she'd be back with it and I guess she forgot because she'd be hanging around talking to the other waitresses. I had to get up and walk over to her to ask for plates, silverware and my straw that she never brought. After we ordered our meal, it took around 10-15 minutes to get it. We ordered the Garlic Pinwheels, 4 of them which seemed a bit high for $10.75 but we liked them better than the pizza. The pizza is thin and small, we got two because with a family of four we would've still been hungry with just one pizza. So if you're big eaters, you might need to order more than two, just saying. The pizza isn't bad, just nothing to rave over. One of our pizzas were burnt around the edges but at the time we finally got seated and our food we were too hungry to complain. To make this long story short, like I said before unfortunately our high hopes fell flat with this restaurant, we won't be going back. It's disappointing when this restaurant has so much potential, it could really be so much better! If you do visit this restaurant I hope you have a much better experience than my family and I did. read more

Hidden behind the Franklin courthouse, this spot has a very chill vibe. We had heard good things about Richards for years. This place seems to have lots of regulars. Pizzas are personal size so everyone gets exactly what they want. They have a decent draft and bottle beer selection. We ordered the garlic pinwheels - they were bland but the pizza sauce was great. We visited Richard's on a Friday night for pizza. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We were told outside would be faster. No problem, we sat in the "garden" outside. Nice place. Good service. First thing you see is the wood pizza oven. The oven and the pizza prep area take up about 10%of the restaurant. I was seated at a table adjacent to the pizza area. I watched my pizza prepped and cooked. The area was clean and the pizza dude seemed comfortable in his duties. Pizza came out charred orotund the crust, like a wood fired pizza should be. Good selection of ingredients. I also had a Greek Salad with their dressing on it. Great salad. Again quality ingredients and plenty of them. It could have fed two people. We found this place by accident and couldn't have been more lucky! Such a cool place with delicious pizza. I can't go any further without talking about how delicious the pop is here.
