Chimi churi cafè in Chatswood is the most instagrammable cafès we have come across. The owners,…read morepreviously of Local Embassy in Pyrmont have brought their game to the north. The cafè is hidden in the back streets but despite this, the cafe is very popular, which shows their food is bringing in a crowd. The cafe has a cool set up, with a number of indoor and outdoor tables, there are also a couple of communal tables. As you walk in there is a large mural painted on the wall of an interesting character, with a tweaked moustache which is a reflection of the interesting and quirky menu on offer. Then, a range of visually appealing plates started to arrive at the table for us to photograph and share. The signature being the black benedict which is a soft shell crab burger with squid ink hollandaise. The bun, a black brioche which gets its colour from charcoal. This dish is not only visually appealing, but also very tasty and unlike any burger we have tried before. For bacon lovers the 'lick my bacon' is right up your alley. A thick cut bacon steak, cue Homer Simpson drooling mmmmm bacon. This served on a freshly baked red striped croissant with a has brown and haloumi and a side 100% Canadian Maple Syrup. Need I say more? Other notable breakfast options were the Chimi Churi eggs. Poached eggs, labneh, chilli oil, Chimichuri dukkah sauce and freshly baked artisan bread. Keep an eye out for the Cola Bowl which will be a new addition to the menu. A tasty yogurt bowl served with toasted granola, fruit and for a bit of a twist a cola syrup drizzled on top. The lunch menu may not be as grammable, but tasty and had some healthy options available. The stuffed calamari with a bit of South American flair. This dish with a nice flavour combination of chicken mince, chorizo, chimichuri salsa with a tasty parsnip and beetroot cream. The seared tuna, another healthy option served with a pineapple salsa and nicely plated too. The lunch menu is not at all healthy, with Chimi Churi doing a decent mac and cheese with triple cheese pork and bacon. The fried chicken bites were also very more-ish and the seasoned chips that came with the chicken, unbelievably tasty. They also have some great options for those with a sweet tooth. The nutella french toast, nice and fluffy with fairy floss a mini jar of nutella and served with some fresh fruit. The pannacotta another beautifully plated dish, very photogenic. A nice sweet finish a textural dish with the smoothness of the pannacotta, the macadamia crumb, a airy sponge, sauced with the berry coulis. As mentioned one of the most grammable cafes we have been to. The owners are perfectionists and the menu is well balanced with something for everyone. The food is not only very photogenic, the food is also tasty. Worth travelling to Chatswood to try some cool dishes and to get some great shots for your instagram feed.

However, ignoring that, this cafe is awesome. Firstly, the coffee here is good. Not the best cafe you'll get but good enough to get a second cup. Which I did. It is a little bit lighter, so if you like a darker brew, might want to order a double shot - just a warning. The finest thing about this cafe is the food. Now, it is slightly on the 'smaller' portion side. But it is quite good. Everything we order was extremely tasty. And the staff here are extremely helpful and friendly.

The Northern Bean - Portuguese chargrilled chicken burger, fantastic!

This little cafe called Northern Bean is truly a "find" right in the heart of Willoughby. It is…read moresituated directly opposite the Bridgeview Hotel just down from French's road and just between the "Celebrations" bottle shop and "Pizza Hut". One thing I won't forget about my visit to the Northern Bean is the friendly service from the owners Bobbie and Paris. On arrival one notices how they work as a team with Bobbie managing the orders with help from the wait staff while Paris manages the kitchen and the diverse menu on offer. Bobbie is ever at the ready for timely and hot takeaways, especially coffee of your choice and I'm told that there is quite a procession of tradies calling in from 5am in the am onwards. As far as the afternoon goes they have a sensible closing time of 4pm enabling them both to attend to family duties and to plan for the next day. Another thing I noticed is how "dog" friendly the place is provided your dog is happy to drink the water at the door and to remain no further than the cafe entrance. My dog "Rego" has felt especially welcome as Bobbie and Paris have developed a special treat for him known as the "regoburger". It is a pure lean meat burger served without the trimmings but especially to his taste. He recommends it highly and has returned on many an occasion with the required anticipation of yet another treat in his day. I find that this tends to help him hold out till evening for his main meal of the day. What more can I say other than that if you make the trip to the Northern Bean to experience the " down to earth" traditional food available I don't think you will be disappointed.

I had a Chicken burger with chips and flat white both times I came. They have a huge TV in the café, never with the volume on. So I really do question the point, it just becomes distracting more so than anything else. The owner seems nice, and with the waitress, though her English is terrible for simple things, so I missed out on having my BBQ sauce as a result because I wasn't in the mood having to explain what it was. The coffee is average, though passes to have with your meal, but I wouldn't order a 2nd one. Tables only bigger enough to fit 4 people comfortably, so don't come here with a big group.

While we were there, a few more groups came in and it got a bit busy. The owner came over to our table to talk about the menu and greet us. He gave great advice into how big things were and what was the right size for kids (I had 4 with me) and for the youngest, he made homemade Calamari rings for a child's meal - and they were so delicious we were all circling the leftovers! The rib decision, half rack or whole, was quickly solved as I was instructed that a half would be more than enough. Indeed it was! It was the size of a full rack anywhere else! I took half home and enjoyed them for lunch the next day! One ordered the chicken burger and it was gorgeous, marinated and grilled, not breaded and fried, and it was also quite big, and half went home. Two of the girls split the big burger which had two patties and all sorts of lovely toppings. It was delicious and the owner split the burger at the table for the girls. We also had started with the loaded chips, which were loaded with cheese, bacon and whatnot, super yummy, but there was a lot there and it didn't get finished. I would definitely recommend to anyone, and we are looking forward to another visit soon.
