I honestly thought this was a pet food store as I passed by almost daily. This veterinarian practice uses a combination of eastern and western medicine to improve and maintain pet health. My regular vet referred me to them after my 7 year old rescue Lab/Coonhound was diagnosed with a malignant mast cell tumor. It was excised by my regular vet but she couldn't get clear margins due to location. It was either this approach or a veterinary oncologist. It was a five week wait for an appointment and you had to secure the date with a credit card deposit that was later applied to the bill as credit. TWP makes you feel calm & welcome from the start. I am familiar with eastern medicine so I didn't have a lot of questions but they answered all I did have completely. Dr. Tartof was professional, attentive, thorough and kind as well as was the vet tech. We came home with lots to read and look up as well as with supplements, a salve and a suggested new diet. The facility is clean, bright and cheerful with plenty of free parking in the lot. I hope this approach will allow our beloved dog to have much more quality time to enjoy life with us. Absolutely do not recommend this place. Dr. Tartof had been my dogs' chiropractor a few years ago when she was working on her own. I had a question about a current issue, and contacted her to see if she had any input. She suggested we go to a specialty clinic to rule out certain things before going there for a consult. Specialty clinic solved my dog's issue and sent the summary to Dr. Tartof. I then received the message that if I wanted her input on supplements, to make an appointment for consultation. Wanting the best for my dog, I did that. I wish we had never gone. I learned nothing that I didn't already know. I was, however, told that I should start him on Saw Palmetto in addition to the Finasteride that our specialty clinic had prescribed to him not 3 weeks prior. When I asked if it made sense to start him on something before our recheck ultrasound at specialty clinic (scheduled for 2 months from now), she looked me straight in the eye and said yes, because the Finasteride might not be enough. Keeping in mind that whatever he is on, he will have to be on for the rest of his life (hoping for another 10 years!). l asked the pharmacist, specialty clinic, and researched online. EVERY article and every person I spoke with confirmed that it is NOT advisable to take both of these medications at the same time. Not for humans or for dogs. The meds work the exact same way, and can interact with each other, and also skew results. They can also cause dangerously low levels of DHT. It should have never been prescribed to us. Too, the Saw Palmetto they sold us could only be purchased from them, and would cost $76 every 44 days, and my having to drive 20 miles each way to get it. Compare that with the legitimate medication prescribed by specialty vet, costing us $10.99 for 60 days, pickup at our local pharmacy. I would LOVE to be proven wrong here, but the only conclusion I can come to is that my dog's health was put at risk due to this clinic trying to pad their pocketbooks. We spent over $800 on things I really didn't feel were necessary for a healthy dog. I try and give benefit of the doubt. Thankfully I did my research before giving the Saw Palmetto to my dog. I told Dr. Tartof I didn't think it made sense for him to take this, and would like to return it. She advised me to definitely hold on to it. When I emphasized that I wanted to return it, I was told I would have to speak with the office administrator. Office Administrator agreed that I could bring it back for credit on my account. Since we never plan to go there again, I requested a refund. These meds should never have been prescribed to us. I drove back over there today to return the unopened untouched Saw Palmetto. Expecting a refund of my $76 plus $5.04 sales tax, I was instead given a return of $63.01 plus $5.04 sales tax. They tell me they are withholding $12.99 as a dispensing fee (which was not itemized on my original invoice) and also claim that they somehow undercharged me an addition $0.02 on the prior invoice. I left with a $68.05 refund to my credit card. I definitely do not recommend anyone to take their pets here. I hate to say it. I hate to admit what happened to me. I normally would not have posted something online at all. However, my experience might help someone else make better decisions with their own pets. read more

I have been bringing my mini Labradoodles to see Dr. SaLee at The Whole Pet for over 10 years. We have recently moved into the area, our dog was evaluated and placed on a treatment plan. They are doing a good job with him and he seems to be getting stronger. He has many underlying issues so he will continue to be a challenge. The office staff is great, availability of appointments is outstanding, and everyone is very caring. We just started bringing our dog, Jay, here a few months ago to test out a more holistic treatment plan for his allergies. Aside from allergies, Jay also suffers from severe fear based aggression, and I have always dreaded vet visits until we found The Whole Pet! They keep note of his special needs and actual use their notes, they even made us a full video production on how to administer his new shots so I wouldn't have to go in with him and cause him distress. My dachshund recently suffered a back/neck injury and surgery is not an option for us. A friend suggested acupuncture, so I made an appointment here for a consultation. Dr. Tartof is amazing. She spent an over an hour with Rudy, examining, listening to me, and assessing. She gave us a lot of options to begin with and helped us make the best choices. The acupuncture has been a great healing tool for Rudy, and after even the first session, we saw vast improvement. There are a lot of choices and options available to treat different things, so it was a bit overwhelming, but both our doctor and vet tech were super helpful with helping me make a plan of treatment. The facility itself is very nice, and all the employees I've encountered are wonderful. We will be heading to our third acupuncture appointment this week. read more

We, and our "furkids", are clients for life. We came to The Whole Pet following a series of suspicious diagnoses from our (former) vet. Our Poodle had been diagnosed for the same symptoms on two separate occasions as an abdominal strain and then as depression, both times with no testing or really any examination done. So we came to the wonderful Dr. Doering for a second opinion. After a couple of tests, she had the answer. My poor pup had pancreatitis, and had likely had it for a couple of years based on how long she had these same symptoms. A round of medication, rechecks, and her insides are back to normal. Woohoo! Vaccines: I don't get the same guff that I used to get from my old vet about vaccinating my dogs. I'm a believer in appropriate vaccination, and with two high exposure dogs (one is a service dog, the other a rockstar of a pet who comes to work with me), they need to be protected. Dr. Tartoff and Dr. Doering always remind me when vaccines are due, and help me keep on top of their heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Both of them are so sweet and patient, which means a lot to me because I know that I can be a pain in the rear with my constant questions and inquiries. Dentals: Our poor, unfortunate cat has a weird genetic thing where his body rejects his own teeth. Weird, I know. Lucky for us, Dr. Doering is a master at veterinary dentistry and keeps on top of his dental care like no one else. As his body tries to reabsorb his teeth, and eats away at them over time, they become increasingly difficult to work with. Unabated, she tackles those fangs and makes sure that healthy ones stick around, while the ones losing the fight come out with as little pain as possible. It's so good to know that he's in the right hands, and when Tucker comes in to get a broken molar removed this month, I know that he will be with the best possible vet for the job. Regular pet stuff: Man, the staff here rocks. They remember me and my pets so well, all I have to do is call in and say "hi, it's Siobhan, Shilah and Tucker's mom" and they are ready to take care of me. Seeing my dogs as chill as they are here is awesome. Shilah is a drama queen, always has been, but Tucker lights up when we come here. He actually likes his vet, and I think that should speak for itself. They, unlike a lot of vets I've tried over the years, actually care about your pet, and are ready at the drop of a hat to help you out. For me, my pets are family, and it's so relieving to know that they'll get treated like family when they come to The Whole Pet. read more

I love Dr. SaLee. I started seeing her because of her background in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). My dog was diagnosed with an autoimmune liver disease, and there was little hope to control his disease with western medicine. She knew exactly what do it! It has been 10 months since we have started seeing her, and my dog has been managed amazingly. I believe we are heading in the right direction and she has added on many years to my dog's life. I cannot say thank you enough to her! She is patient and listens to all questions you may have and is through in her exam. Dr. SaLee is a wealth of knowledge. I have been taking my 4 animals here for years. I drive (happily) from Plainfield because of the quality of care I believe my animals to receive. I had the absolute most unacceptable experience recently and I am floored by the way I was treated. When I called to make my dogs appointment, covid policies were not stated; I proceeded to drive there with my dog and under 2 yr old son. When I got there, the receptionist said I couldn't bring my son in. She stated that it said so in a text message. She was very nice, asked her office manager if it would be ok; the office manager, Sheila, said absolutely not. My infant has to stay in the car. Are you serious? I can take my child anywhere, stores, restaurants, airplane, my OWN doctors appointments; but he isn't allowed to sit on my lap at the vets. Nor would they let me in to use the restroom. I called to speak with Sheila; she could not have been anymore rude, never apologized,no remorse. Just stayed our policy our policy. If you have a policy, tell the person when they call to make the appointment. Be a kind human being and speak to someone. Don't say, well, we text it to you. You didn't tell me when I called. Awful. I will never go back, which she didn't care. The worse customer service ever and this facility is supposed to be next level for quality of care and compassion. read more

We bring our Great Dane KC to the Whole Pet every 4 weeks for acupuncture. The care and attention that the entire staff gives to our boy is Amazing! They truly saw his needs right away and take great care with him. We really appreciate everything they do for KC and we travel quite a distance to go there monthly and will continue to do so! read more

I swear by The Whole Vet and highly recommend them! I have one dog that has terrible allergies. We went through extensive testing and failed treatments with multiple vets until we brought her to Dr. SaLee. After just 2 visits we found the right combination of eastern and western medicine that has her allergies under control. Another one of my dogs is 15 years old and started having terrible anxiety. An herbal tincture was provided which turned her back into her old self. We have 7 dogs of all ages and have done everything including standard wellness visits, laparoscopic spays, dentals, acupuncture, laser, and chiropractic. I wouldn't have believed the results we have experienced were possible if I didn't witness them myself. They are not the least expensive option but they are extremely good, always fit me in when I have emergencies, and feel that they truly care about my dogs as if they were their own. First off-after receiving poor vet care from a vet who cost our dog her life- we decided a wholistic / natural vet might be the way for us- low and behold we called The Whole Pet in bartlett- after reading reviews sounded GREAT! First thing they tell you is the extended exam (for first timers) is double- ok- I figured likely they check more than ears, eyes, teeth , chest , kidney etc... NO they do not- bc after 15 minutes of EXAM ( normal vets give you about 15 minutes so there is no difference there) they proceeded to recommend all these tests on our healthy cat- yes hundreds of dollars in tests- not necessary for a healthy cat we have already had 4 yrs.... so they use your 115. for time to give you a sales pitch-they r trying to MAKE MONEY- they didn't care that the longer the cat was sitting there the more stressed she was becoming! I flat out refused all their crazy tests- as I have 2 other cats and a dog as well- annually this place would cost me 5K+ over a regular vet- for same needles of distemper and same rabies vaccine as everywhere else- same drugs as all the rest of the vets carry and rec for fleas- ticks- whatever- but they charge more- so basically wholistic and natural vet care means the VETS & TECH & OFFICE HELP eat and live better off your money! In Cali they have REAL wholistic and natural vets who spend time watching your pets walk to be sure there is no limp or off gait-as well as sensory triggers to see pets reaction and reaction time- they get on the floor of sofa WITH your pet to make them feel at home- they pet your pets as they speak to you keeping them more relaxed--- this so called wholistic/natural vet care at The Whole Pet is a line of BS - plain and simple - even my 82 yr old Mom smelled the BS right from the get go! Don't waste your money- find someone who respects you and whom you respect and feel comfort with and isn;t in it for the money- in the long run- you have to make decisions, sometimes tough ones and you want to know your vet is thoughtful- not money hungry! read more

I do not have experience with this vet but from the phone call I made just to talk to see if I wanted to switch vets and tell them what I was dealing with with my dog I know I would not want to do business you them. When it comes to bringing in an animal I would at least like to have a little feedback with my problem instead of telling me about the cost of the 1st visit and how they need a prepayment to even schedule. After my hesitation when talking about my work schedule we came to the conclusion that I would never be able to make it since I work 8-6 Monday thru Friday and they do not take first time clients on Saturdays so when I said I guess I would never be able to come in and the lady said yes I guess not and said thank you and hung up. The entire staff, from the techs to the receptionists & doctors, always listened to my concerns. Princess lived 18 years & their care contributed to her longevity even with her physical issues.
