Fantastic selection of quality bourbons. A lot of small craft bourbons as well as your quality national bourbons. It is a very small shop but has a cool vibe and is right next door to the whiskey bar. Best of all is that I was able to find the EH Taylor Single Barrel that I have been looking for for close to six months! Will be back. read more

My relationship with liquor stores can be summed up with the following saying, "wham. bam. thank you ma'am (or sir)". I go in, find what i want then leave. But this doesn't hold true with The Whiskey Shop. Like its sister establishments, Whiskey Town and Whiskey Brooklyn, you are welcomed and treated like an old friend. Not a huge whiskey drinker but I was staying at the William Vale and this was the closest liquor store. As you can imagine by the name they have a large selection of Whiskey but other spirits not to much. They have a small variety of other liquors, and some wines. I will say that the wines they carry are well selected brands that I was familiar with so the person choosing their stock definitely has some knowledge. The shop itself is cozy with only one employee on staff. He was very friendly I might add. The prices are a bit higher than at most liquor stores but I believe part of the reason for that is their purchasing volume. For the size of the store I'd imagine they don't purchase nearly as many bottles necessary to get any kind of bulk discount rate. That's business! The prices weren't so outrageous that I would walk out however. It was on average about 2-3$ more than usual per bottle. The wines started at about $12 a bottle. Not sure about the whiskey pricing though. If you decide you don't want a bottle you can just head into the bar right next door. We actually walked in there first by accident and were thrown off by the doorman asking us for ID. He directed us next door. read more

We went in and were treated like friends - there was no 'qualification' or pretentiousness - just owners that are PASSIONATE about their product and want to share that with those that are lucky enough to walk into their shop. This bar is fine, it was a fall back when Brooklyn Brewery had an hour line outside on a Saturday PM. Whiskey shop is in the basement and rather large at that with a big bar surrounded by tables. It must fit a few hundred people. There's skee ball in the back near the bathrooms. The tap list is rather small but there's a good selection of bottles and cans. It's definitely a whiskey bar with some rare choices. The bartender selected two ryes which were very good. There's plenty of TV to watch your fave ball game. You know know you're an obsessive when you travel to a whole other borough on the off chance that a hole in the wall liquor store carries the booze you're looking for. That is how I ended up at Whiskey Shop: I have an addiction to the brown stuff and I'll travel cross-country if need be (or cross-borough, same thing). I'd like to think that I've loved bourbon before it was cool (possible not true) back when there were few varieties to be had and places weren't selling 2 oz pours for $175 (no exaggeration). That said, the recent uptick in bourbon obsession has definitely expanded the genre for the better, that realization coming during my chat with the gentleman behind the counter (whom I presume is Jonathan?) over the pros and cons of various mashbills and distilling styles. I probably soured our discussion when I mentioned the allocation of the rare stuff. His eyes kind of glazed over and he went into a robotic recitation of their policies. However, that didn't stop me from walking out with a great craft whiskey in my hands and a smile on my face. read more

The Whiskey Shop is a little hole in the wall that you'd walk right past if you weren't looking for it. In fact, I did walk past it a half dozen times without realizing the shop existed. It's like a whiskey library. The shopkeeper Jonathan walked me through a number of great local products and was able to pinpoint exactly what I was looking for (origin, price range, taste profile) in just a few minutes. He's got a real talent and passion for what he does; it's not just a job for him. In fact, I'm surprised he's not working at a high-end restaurant in the city with his skill. It's a testament to how special this little shop truly is. I ended up purchasing three fantastic bottles and I'm happy with everything I took away. If you're a serious whiskey drinker, you owe yourself at least one visit here. I can't imagine you'll regret the trip. read more

I am saddened by this place because even though it is a very cute store and the service is great, I just found out that a bottle I bought there last week for $32 can be found everywhere else for $23.99. In the fall of 2010, after a long over-night drive from the midwest, myself, my boyfriend and our friend stumbled into The Whiskey Brooklyn. Admittedly, I had to pee really badly and the place we were on our way to was not open yet. We were hungry too, so decided to be nice patrons and order food and some drinks before using the bathrooms. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly bartender who asked us if we were ok with watching soccer. Of course! I'm pretty sure we spent the next couple of hours confusing our new friend Jonathan with our love of coca-cola and grenadine and wide range of interests. We parted ways, thoroughly enjoying our experience. (Also, we enjoyed heckling the number of people that came in to use the bathroom and got annoyed when they were told it was for paying customers only. If they had only scrounged up a few bucks for a drink, they may have ended up with a sweet friend too- jokes on them. We now make a point of going out of our way to visit Jonathan and The Whiskey Shop every time we are close by. This place is as legit as can be, and Jonathan is awesome and incredibly knowledgable. Really, 5 stars does not do this place justice... it's one of the few 10 star establishments on yelp. read more

This place makes me freakin' love Brooklyn. My husband and i stumbled upon it -- he is a huge bourbon connoisseur -- after visiting the Brooklyn Brewery next door and Jonathan was so friendly and engaging, welcoming and knowledgeable we could have stayed there for hours! He is extremely knowledgeable about bourbon and whiskey, I felt like I learned so much just from talking to him for a short while. He has all kinds of selection of whiskey, bourbon, and exquisite rums. We were thinking about buying a few bourbons and Jonathan encouraged us to try the bourbon flight in the bar downstairs before deciding -- so we left to grab coffee and then try the bourbon flight. Great local Whiskey shop in Williamsburg right by the park. Jonathan knows his stuff and recommended a Bruichladdich Laddie Ten Scotch for me after hearing about what I wanted, and what I had tried before. The prices are competitive as well, so go support your local shop in the hood. read more

I have never been at a bar were 7 people who were bat hoping (minorities) and the bar was empty decided to kicked us out because we did the Brooklyn beer tour before. What!? I bought this was a great bar with with the games but the bartender sure make sure we got all kick out.
