That being said, I have a long relationship with the jewelry store and completely trust them... they have always done great work. But, before having them replace the mechanism, I brought the watch to Randy of Specialty Watch Repair. He spent about an hour with the watch. When he returned, the watch was back in working order. He informed me that a spring had popped out and that he had replaced it. I don't even want to say how little he charged as his place would be too full. All I will say is that Randy is honest, generous, and competent. My lesson was that a jewelry store, no matter how great, is a jewelry store. A watch is not really jewelry. I just wanted the retentive beads added back to the intaglio surface to help prevent my rings from rotating. I had previously had the retention beads but had Greenan remove the beads when I gained weight. W. Greenan even placed a drawing of what I wanted on the envelope. They got so focused on the size of the ring instead of my desire to JUST add the beads (like I had before). What did they do? They cut my rings. :-( Now, the diamond setting is so heavy because the cut (replaced) band is so much lighter it can't counter the weight of the setting. So now my diamond rotates worse than before and stays in the palm of my hand. I have used Greenan and Sons for the past 20 years for all my fine jewelry needs. I even sent friends to them for their engagement rings. Disappointment doesn't adequately describe how I feel right now. When I pointed out my concerns, nothing but rationalizations and talk about size again. Walt Greenan argued with me and stated that he called to get my approval when he did not. He called to say the rings were ready for pick up. If he had NOT gone on ad nauseum about his foot/boot and Thanksgiving with his family that included his ex, he would have heard and understood my request, his customer's request. I thought I could have a more rational conversation with the younger Greenan who was in the store when I brought my rings in and also heard my request for my rings not to be cut. I pointed out that the weight of the engagement ring was grossly different. The band had been cut, and the rings prongs and band had been overly polished so that the prongs had been burnished and the ornate scribing of the band had been completely removed. He, too, was a hot head. He also went on to state that the ring had to be cut to be sized. I DID NOT ASK for the RING to be SIZED. I asked for the beads to be added. He handed my rings back to me. He stated he wasn't going to argue with me and marched off. All I asked for were for the retentive beads to be added to my rings, nothing else. I am thankful I have 2 previous appraisals with photos for my next steps. Greenan and Sons are not what they used to be, not in customer service and not in craftsmanship.

They did not call us back to inform us that the repair was completed until today. When I looked at the strand of pearls one was the wrong size and the wrong color the other was the wrong color. When we took them back to the store to point out that there was an issue before we even finished the sentence the guy at the store Walter completely lost his cool. He was shouting at us saying that they didn't do anything to our jewelry and escalated the situation far more than it should have been. My daughter attempted to tell him that this was the second piece of jewelry that they have damaged (the other was her promise ring) he waved her off, spoke over her and said "well I don't know about that". He proceeded to say something about "you people" which is concerning. Walter also called us "disgusting" and began to twist whatever we said into the most absurd thing he could think of. For example I said "there's more than one way to skin a cat" to my daughter when she began to get visibly upset by Walter's actions and words and his response was to shout "oh so now I'm a rat and you're going to skin me, so you're threatening me". After this he started getting more and more angry when we tried to reiterate that these pearls were matched to each other and he began to slam things on the counter, he snatched the pearls from my daughters hands and when she took them back from him, he marched behind the stand, picked up the phone and threatened to call the police. At that point we left the store and called the other location as that's where the owner is. We spoke to a nice gentleman at that location and told him all that had happened. This gentleman's first response to the name Walter was "oh god". When we finished the story and told him about Walter calling us "you people" and we raised the question on whether he is a bigot or a sexist he said "well Walter has an antiquated view of women". Take of that as you will. I plan on never coming here again, in addition I don't think you should either as at the very least this manager is a sexist with anger issues. With his mannerisms I felt as though if there hadn't have been a display between us I would have been struck.

I periodically go in to have my watch batteries replaced (I have several watches). This review is specifically in praise of Yakov, who has worked there as long as I remember. Among my watches was my relatively recently deceased dad's timex. He took a look and said it didn't just need a battery and that he didn't think he could repair it. When I expressed a bit of disappointment and told him it was my dad's he said "leave it with me. I don't know if I can do it but I will try." When wait times at Rolex Authorized Dealer (AD) have become more a minimum prison sentence of 3-5…read moreyears wait time, it becomes extremely tempting to seek other means for the purchase of your dream watch. Areas such as the gray market and used/ pre-owned resellers are becoming tempting. But keep in mind there are "more fakes than authentic Rolexs on the market" and currently on the wrists of the super successful in society. An issue that Rolex themselves don't seem to mind!  The Diamond Exchange, a business that claims over 30 years in the industry the price becomes extremely tempting. Best of all is the selection of "Rolex" products on hand: they have various models, years, and designs and at a mere 30-35% above the AD's new MSRP! As ridiculous as that sounds, it can ve extremely tempting when considering the current gray market prices. When entering a business that is asking only 30% MSRP, it easily becomes a viable option (30% is actually on the low end currently). While making my purchase, the seller informed me that Rolex does not keep time very well. This statement should have set off red flags, but unfortunately, it did not at the time. I purchased an extremely well-made Rolex Submariner that was only a couple of years old and still was under warranty according to the certified card included. I was filled with joy. However, that ended when the watch was losing over 20 seconds s a day. I simply dropped the watch off at an authorized dealer for repair in Tysons. I was quoted a jaw-dropping 12-16 week turnaround for the repair. As discouraging as it was to spend thousands of dollars and need repair within a week of purchase, I wanted the quality that I invested in, so off it went. Feeling confident, I left with an empty wrist and voucher. Several weeks later, I received a call from the dealer informing me that my watch was ready for pickup. However, nothing was done as a result of the watch not being authentic. The Rolex Submariner watch. I was sold a FAKE ROLEX! When I inquired what the issue was, the dealer informed me I would need to contact Rolex directly to find out the details. At this point, thousands of dollars were dumped down the drain! My dream watch scenario was quickly morphing into a nightmare situation. Disappointment and shock would be an understatement of the decade! It was equally interesting that the authorized dealer that I brought the watch to wasn't able to tell the item was unauthentic initially. To be exact- a congratulations on my purchase was originally offered only amplifying the sting further. Rolex informed me that the watch was fake and that the Serial Number did not exist in their records. The certified card had all matching information and appropriate markings needed; details discovered during my research. After conducting hours of research and feeling confident about the sellers reputation, I made my purchase, only to be bamboozled in the end. I had become a victim of fraud! A 10-15 year prison sentence at stake I went to return the fake I purchased weeks before. When I entered, the seller claimed not to remember me or the original transaction - more salt I'm the wound. I demanded my money back as I recalled the details of my experience. The owner casually stated, "Of course I'll return the money for your purchase," as he feined shock that the item was fake. In the end, I was sold an extrenely well made high-end clone (1:1 available online). He further explained that he received the watch on trade by a trusted return customer that he would need to "have a talk with." My overall experience was absolutely traumatizing. The transaction was horrible and I would not recommend conducting business with the Diamond Exchange when purchasing a Rolex line product unless of course you are willing to spin the wheel and become another mark to pad the pockets of shady business practices. Simply having a store front does not make you reputable. It is integrity and business practices those of which are clearly lacking at the Diamond Exchange.
