I just recently purchased a seriously nice watchband for my Apple Watch 2...at a steal from Amazon might I add! As always, whenever it comes to buying a new watch or band, I always have to get the band adjusted to fit my wrist. In comes...Moren Watch Repair....these guys are fast, reliable and always do great work. I walked in and was greeted by Luis, the proprietor. I explained my issue of needing a band adjustment, got a sizing recommendation from Luis, handed over the watch and took a seat. I heard a couple of...clank...clanks...tink...tinks....Nervous!?? Heck Yeah...the watch band was really nice and let's not talk about the expensive body of the Apple Watch! But, no less than 5 minutes, I received my watch back with no scratches and the perfect fit. This is the second time visiting Moren Watch Repair. During my first visit, I brought in my favorite, vintage TAG Heuer. It was in dire need need of a face work, a new battery and tightening of a numeral position. At that time, I was about to send it off to someone in California, whom I found online and did not know, but claimed they were a specialist in TAG Heuer watches. This did not sit well with me. It was then a good friend recommended Moren, and I am so glad they did. I was able to talk to them directly about my watch issues, ask many questions, and drill them on the many nuances of a TAG Heuer. To my suprise, these guys were very knowledgeable and explained a few things even I did not know about the watch. Thus, I gave them the work. The servicing took two days. In the end, I received my watch back looking brand spanking new, working in great condition and no damage. Talk about in need of an efficient watch repair place that does the job, this place is it. The prices are not as cheap, but you get what you pay for....especially if you are looking for someone to trust with your favorite or most expensive timepieces. The owners of this shop are fantastic! Great customer service and very approachable. They are very nice, helpful, and honest. Also, they perform jewelry repairs and resell collector watch/jewelry items as well. They are patient in answering questions and give great advice. Not to mention, watching their skillfully deft hands and craftsmanship repair watches is an incredible sight to see. For jewelry and watch repair there's no better place I know. I live in Colorado, but because my father was a watchmaker, I've known about Moren's my entire life, and they're repairing a vintage wristwatch for me right now. When I was a just a kid I use to run errands to get my dad watch parts from Moren's. Then it was owned by Robin Moren's dad, Dick, who was a great guy, and his son, the current owner, is cut from the same cloth. Luis does indeed work there, and is a highly skilled watchmaker and a gem of a person. These guys are not inexpensive, but you get service with integrity, and they do quality work. The Women's March on Washington was approaching and my watch battery was dead. This simply would not do! A quick Yelp search turned up this place, which I would never have found on my own. It's on the lower level of a set of shops on a busy Georgia Ave corner, so it's a bit tucked away from the street. My husband and I ended up having 3 watch batteries replaced here while we waited. I came in for a bracelet adjustment for my Panerai. After explaining my request, a gentleman named "Rob" adjusted the bracelet. He noted that some screws were loose in the bracelet and that the clasp needed cleaning, so he tended to those matters as well. When I asked about servicing, he tested the watch to tell me how well it was running and laid out a watch servicing timeline. The whole process took 15 minutes and cost me $45. The second visit didn't go as smoothly. I needed a replacement capacitor for my Citizen Eco-Drive. Because this part is outdated, it had to be back-ordered. When I called for an update, the gentleman who answered the phone said I'd get a call, but I never got a call or a voicemail until weeks later. The replacement cost $85. They provide much better service with regards to expensive watches like Panerai vs cheap watches like Citizen. Also, they don't post prices anywhere, so ask for the price upfront. Finally, your best bet is to call; they never responded to my e-mails. read more

I have known Moren for almost three decades when my son was just around two or three years old and he is now thirty-years old when I used to visit Moren when it was located on Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The old man or the Dad was the one in charge/attending to customers at that time, and he was such a nice, sweet, and helpful man. I bought my watches there and the old man was so helpful, pleasant, and friendly whenever I will visit Moren, just customers' friendly. One time, they tried to repair a watch that I purchased from them, but they were unable to repair the watch rather than refunding part of my money, they decided to gifted me with an automatic watch, which looked very expensive, and which I still owned this piece of automatic watch,1/2/2022. I met two members of the Moren family, a middle-aged female and the old man, very decent and potential reputable place for one's watch buying and repairs, and other jewelry purchases. I saw some negative reviews on Yelp and chose to go ahead and use this shop. I wish I had not. The godmother is big on Datejusts, so I have a few that I hadn't been wearing because after a few days the time would be off so I assumed they needed servicing, not being a watch connoisseur and all. I dropped one off to Moren's for servicing which is around $400. It did have a small chip on the side of the crystal. When I was finally contacted to pick it up, I was told the crystal had to be replaced to the tune of $200. As another review on Yelp had stated, I was not asked permission in advance to do this repair. I understand it may have been necessary, but a customer should receive a courtesy call informing them of any necessary changes in the work order before proceeding. When I retrieved my watch there were some scratches (not on the bracelet) that I didn't recall being there. After wearing the watch a few days, I noticed the time was off again and thought maybe I needed to take it back to Moren. Fast forward, I speak to some luxury watch aficionados and they inform me that they all lose time over the course of a few days and that they don't produce digital accuracy. One even told me he had gotten the Rolex formula down to a loss of 30 seconds per day... So now I'm thinking that all this time I've not worn them thinking they needed to be serviced that in fact, they were fine. Yet, I'm sure Datejust #2 needs servicing so being reluctant to return to Moren, I drop it off at the watch repair shop inside Sears White Oak. Two days later, I get a call informing me that there is "nothing wrong with my watch - it is keeping time fine so you can come pick it up." WHAT??? That's when I realized I quite possibly, and more likely than not paid in the ball park $400 for nothing and that does not sit well with me. I would not recommend this business. Rob did a fantastic job replacing the broken wind-up movement in my 1960s Weimar mantel clock with a battery-powered one. He installed the movement neatly and meticulously, and he kept the front of the clock looking exactly the same. He was even able to use the original hands. These guys are extremely knowledgeable about watches, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who knows more about watches that Mr. Moren. It's very nice to see a local shop thrive so well after so many years. However, the customer service at this place is pretty bad. I brought my watch in over a month ago and I had to keep calling every week for updates. I received only one phone call from them the entire 5 weeks the watch was over there. Oh, and by the way, they didn't end up fixing my watch in the meantime - it would have taken longer had they done so. I'm also not too happy about my experience, but this may or may not be their fault. I paid them over 300 dollars to fix a Cartier watch that someone bought for me about 1.5 years ago. Since their warranty lasts a year, I would have had to shell out an additional $500 to fix the Cartier watch this time around. Now, I totally believe them when they tell me that the part is extremely hard to find and that in order to fix the watch, the whole backend of the watch would need to be replaced. However, I wonder why they didn't notice that this part was going bad 1.5 years ago? Also, I had asked them 1.5 years ago to take a good look at my watch to see if they had noticed any other old and rotting pieces. Mr. Moren said that my watch looked good other than the part that I replaced at that time. It's such a shame, since I hardly wear the watch and keep it for "fancy" events. For ordinary jobs, I suggest that you look elsewhere, since they are pricey. However, more likely than not, you will have a watch that Mr. Moren can fix. Just don't expect a phone call when they tell you that they will call. And if your watch has any rare components, be prepared to wait at least 2 weeks. Also, don't forget that you brought your watch to the shop, since they will likely not remind you! read more

Just got some links removed from my new watch (thanks to my special man friend for my birthday present!) and went to Moren on a coworker recommendation. I was greeted immediately when I walked in, the guy was very friendly and was very helpful. He adjusted the links twice just to make sure I was happy and it was perfect on me. It was $15, which is a little more than I'd like to spend, but I am happy to pay a little extra for service/convenience (I work right down the street) and I like supporting local businesses. It took around 5-10 mins and I enjoyed browsing the shop - you can tell there's a lot of history there. Like another reviewer said, the hours are not that great for people working 9-6 jobs. There is no better watch repair shop than Moren's. I informally collect vintage mechanical watches, and I first went to Moren's in their previous Silver Spring location approximately 30 years ago. At that time, Mr. Moren Sr. ran the shop. One of his sons joined his father, and continues to run the shop in their new location today. If I understand correctly, Mr. Moren (current) is a 4th generation watchmaker. He and his colleague Luis are the kind of top-notch, skilled, experienced and knowledgeable professionals that you rarely find these days. I have had many mechanical watches overhauled or restored by Moren's. Some of these watches are highly valuable / expensive. And it's not ONLY that they have the skill, these folks have the interest and passion that you rarely find, that drives them to deliver outstanding, personalized, service... consistently. They also have an incredible supply of new old stock parts, especially for brands like Jaeger-LeCoultre, Rolex, and others. They also have a great selection of quality watch straps and bracelets and some vintage watches and jewelry as well as tools for watchmaking for sale. I have recommended Moren's to other watch collectors, including some from outside of the Washington, DC area, and without exception, they thank me for connecting them to Moren's. In many cases, they struggled with the terrible customer service departments of companies like Omega, Breitling, Rolex, etc. Fortunately, the timepieces they cherish (often a vintage family heirloom) can be brought back to full working order, thanks to Moren's. Wow. The service here is so warm and friendly and old fashioned-ly good that I started to get light headed. You know how there are some places, just a few, where the service is so good that you don't really even look at the bill, you know it might be a little more than usual, but that they're not stiffing you, you're paying for service? I ordered an Invicta watch online and it arrived with one of the hands broken. Even though it was under warranty, I went to Moren to see if they could repair it for cheaper than the cost of shipping back to the manufacturer. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I told the person why I was there and he immediately told me what they would be able to do, how long it would take, and how much it would cost. They fixed it while I waited, all in all about 20 minutes. It was $30 to have the hand repaired and $15 to have several links removed. Way cheaper than it would have cost me to send it back for the manufacturer to repair, even with the warranty. The people at Moren are consummate professionals. Extremely knowledgeable, courteous, helpful, and friendly. They took care of me as if I was an old family friend. From now on Moren will be my go-to jeweler and watch repair shop. Had two very nice vintage watches repaired at MORENS, was charged $600.00, within 2 weeks the second hands had fallen off of both watches. Clearly, Clearly Substandard and inferior work. When I returned to have these issues addressed I was told you cant bounce these watches off the wall.. I will not take any of my timepiece to that so called watch repair shop again. read more

This used to be my go-to place to service mechanical watches but no more. I recently brought in a 1970s Tudor Submariner with a rare "Snowflake" dial for service and the watchmaker not only damaged the hands but also obliterated the lettering on the dial with an unfortunate mishap with a Bergeron tool. These watches typically sell for between $5.5-10k in unmolested condition and Morens managed to destroy thousands of dollars in value at a single stroke. The owner offered to pay for a redial but I was afraid it would lower the value of the timepiece even more. Bottom line, I would bring a cheaper watch in for minor service like replacing a battery but if you've got a valuable mechanical timepiece or an irreplaceable item with sentimental value I'd look elsewhere. read more

I had a brief but very satisfying experience! It's evident that staff is knowledgeable and adept-the battery process, though simple, was explained and tended to with care and speed. Experince: I am a watch collector and a small time seller. When I buy lots of watches & I can't do the battery replacement or some repairs. I have been looking for a place locally for service. Mail in places require you to package, ship, insure, and then pay for return. Then you get an estimate. I went to Moren's for the first time, love the way it feels, the artistry of the timepieces and the people. A group watches have been left for estimates. All three men behind the counter could not have been more helpful/friendly. They explained their history, their work the difference between plating and gold filled and in general their prices. One mail-in place estimated for 4 watches over $4,000. I now await MOREN'S verdict. I also had some batteries replaced and some watch cases closed-some are so tight it can be tough to reclose. One thing about a professional watch shop. You will always pay more for battery replacements, they checked the gaskets and opened cases that I do not have the tool for. After reading the various positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Moren a try. I dropped by to have a Datejust bracelet adjusted. This is usually an easy and inexpensive procedure for any competent watchmaker. Instead, Moren scratched one of the links and had the gall to charge $60 for the privilege. Again, I've had bracelets adjusted on APs and Omegas for much more reasonable prices and without any scratches. If you have a high-end watch, I strongly urge you to stay away and find a better watchmaker to work on it! read more

I had a skagen watch that had its front crystal broken. I decided to get it fixed locally rather than send it back in to skagen. I came to Moren's and left my watch for repair. 1 week later I returned and they had not even touched it so I waited for 20 mins while they worked on it. Fast forward 2 weeks and I'm sitting in a hot tub in the carribean and I notice my watch looks odd. Water had filled the entire front face!! My watch was destroyed!! I removed the front crystal to drain the water and find that it was replaced by a shoddy plastic imitation! I am never going back here again. Thankfully the watch was rather inexpensive but I'm glad I didn't bring anything Swiss made to these guys. read more

After panicking when my MK died, I realized I most likely needed a battery. Of course I Yelped first and then ran to this place. I really regret ever having started using this place. I sort of got conditioned to using them because the first watch restoration I brought to them resulted in what appeared to be great work. However, that watch, and four other timepieces since then, ceased to function, all very consistently after several months. After dealing with them for years, I will happy to wash my hands of their services. I actually think that Moren's biggest problem is that he doesn't know how/when to state that he just doesn't have the ability or parts or fix something. He will keep telling you he's working on it until you finally demand that he give you back your watch, in one condition or another. I consider this to be a major integrity problem for him. read more
