Located inside the Kings Inn, this is a sweet diner with friendly service and ambiance. However, we were excited to try "the best waffles in town" but were left wanting more :( We went in and sat at the diner counter but unfortunately the seats at the counter was not plus size friendly. Even my bf who I would consider a thinner build felt uncomfortable in the seats. Luckily they share seating with the Mexican restaurant next door and were were seated there instead and felt much more comfortable. Now onto the food, the waffles are okay and everything else was okay as well. The coffee was okay, the service good but not great. They didn't check up on us often or even refilled our coffee mug (which is a number one thing I look for when I go to breakfast spots) . We left the place wanting more and a pricy bill. Paying over $50 for two people is a bit too much.

This popped up on my try list since I was in the area. We came in for breakfast, it was not crowded and we were able to sit at the counter. Very old school diner vibes in a good way. The walls are covered in fan art and various fun waffle related decor. Lots to look at, you can even color your own waffle king and put it up. It is located on the main floor of the King Inn, you do not need to be staying at the hotel to eat here. Staff is very friendly, food came out quickly. The waffles were yummy, I tried the new lemon ricotta one and it was nice, I'd prefer more lemon flavor but thats me. The chicked looked so good, but when I bit into the drumstick it was a little bloody still, I spit it out and put it aside. The other chicken piece that came with it was cooked fine. Thankfully I had already eaten most of my waffle so I was almost full. Coffee was good, and refilled often.

Good waffles. Messed up on the kids order and did not put the cheese but still charged for it. Coffee was average. Service was friendly. I did not get what I wanted. I picked two mini waffles and asked for churro and banana nut, then found out they do not do churro on the mini and the bananas were not looking great for the other one. So I went with eggs with cheese instead, which were decent. My wife's dish came with waffles and country potatoes. Both those two sides were pretty good. I liked that the potatoes were seasoned well. The place is attached to Kings Inn and there is a small discount if you are staying there which is a nice perk. Overall a decent place. Not bad, not amazing, just fine.

Hubby and I sat at the bar on a Saturday at 10 AM and walked right in. I was kind of surprised it wasn't as crowded as I thought. But at the same time, there was a good buzz - which we always appreciate. We got Chorizo Cone Huevos and a side waffle (of course). They make their chorizo in-house as well as their salsa and they were both amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plate was big enough that we split both things. Sitting at the bar is always nice - they refill your coffee constantly and are basically at your beck-n-call. There are a bunch of different coffee creamers sitting in front of you, even pumpkin spice since it's October. Yay The restaurant is on the old side, but didn't smell old or musty and everything was super clean. The servers are awesome and very efficient as well. This is definitely a cool place to check out and worth going. Prices are decent - especially if you share. Glad we came .

Breakfast in San Diego, California... We made it a point to eat something different everyday and decided to visit The Waffle Spot. Located on Hotel Circle, this restaurant had a casual, old school diner vibe. We passed by this spot every day because it's on the mainland road and very visible! Paula was our friendly, efficient, and helpful server. She was genuinely kind to every customer! She was sincere in her conversations with each person and was very observant! She offered to fill my water bottle and brought takeout containers before we asked! We all had the special Cinnamon Apple Waffle, which came with eggs and choice of meat. I got scrambled eggs and crispy bacon... yum! The apple slices on the waffle were fresh! It was a wonderful foodie experience because of Paula... she made it a five-star breakfast!

This restaurant was fantastic! It is decorated with a 50's style diner theme. There are a few tables, several booths and a countertop that you can sit at From the time we entered till the time we left, everyone we came in contact with was very friendly. Our servers name was Paula, and she was absolutely delightful. She had such a positive upbeat attitude and was willing to do whatever it took to make sure everyone in our large party was happy. The food was also super yummy. I had the Chilaquiles and my sister had the churro waffle. We decided to share each other's dishes and I am so glad I did. The Chilaquiles was very good. I asked to have green and red sauce and Paula said you got it! The chips on the bottom were crunchy. The sauce was delicious and they even accommodated my request for egg weights. They are known for their waffles and I will say the churro waffle was an absolute masterpiece of flavor! I swear it tasted like the churros at Disneyland but better. The waffle had a light crunchy texture on the outside and a warm moist texture inside. There's plenty of seating because once the waffle spot seating area fills up, they open up the Mexican restaurant that was the other restaurant in the hotel for seating purposes. I will say you may have to wait, but the wait is definitely worth it. Your taste buds will thank you. I also felt that the prices were reasonable. I just wanna take one more opportunity to thank Paula, who gave outstanding service during our visit.

Food was amazing, service was amazing all of the staff was so kind, friendly, and attentive. I loved the look/vibe of the place as well great for pictures, and the amazing artwork displayed all over was so fun! The churro waffle was AMAZING!! Wish I got another to bring it home with me. My bf got the chorizo breakfast burrito and loved it! Can't wait to show my family this place! Definitely needs more hype

The Waffle Spot reminds me of a place you might see on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. This breakfast & Brunch-only local coffee shop is small, unassuming, and virtually hidden in plain sight. It sets in the hotel lobby of King's Hotel on hotel Circle off the 8 Fwy in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. The restaurant is small and simple, but the food is fantastic! of course by the name you know they specialize in waffles. This was our first visit. We decided to try the chicken fried steak breakfast. It had a very healthy portion of chicken fried steak with plenty of white country style gravy. It also came with country style cubed potatoes mixed with sliced onion and bell pepper. We chose 2 mini waffles as our bread choice because how could you go to the Waffle Spot and not try the waffles?!?! #RookieMistake Everything tasted good. It was not upscale or gourmet but definitely high on the diet-be-damned, delicious, down home, comfort food scale. We will eat here again.

Day of the dead decoration

What a cute restaurant. It has that old school look and was decorated for the Day of the Dead. We came in for a late breakfast around 11:30. We were seated immediately by a very pleasant young hostess. Our server, Omar, was right on it. He was pleasant and helpful, not rushing us through our long perusal of the menu. The service was good and our meal came out quickly. They have a lot of tasty looking dishes on the menu. I chose the Machaca Burrito with the Ranchera Sauce. The Machaca was tender and moist, the sauce was delicious! And the burrito was Huge! My companion had the Machaca Benedict. Wow, what a treat. The portions are very generous. The Machaca was on a waffle and covered in a scrumptious Chipotle Hollandaise Sauce. The Ranch potatoes were crunchy with onions & peppers, so yummy. We both had a second meal from our leftovers. If you are in the mood for a hearty and delicious meal I highly recommend The Waffle Spot for delicious food and great service.

This is our go to any time we are in San Diego. It's right in mission valley. I always manage to stop by here. Parking situation is not too bad. It's right off the freeway. Wait times can be long but I feel there's always something to look at and check out. The menu is pretty decent - everything for breakfast lovers, but we come for the waffles. For first timers, I recommend the churro waffle. It's basically churro battered waffles. Sometimes I like something simple like the blueberry waffles. I love seeing the artwork on the walls. There's a lot of people who have redrawn the restaurant's mascot in their style and you can too!

Classic, good quality diner food, but with an extensive mimosa list. As their name implies, waffles are on point. Fun, whimsy decor.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it.
